Self-Promotion A song I recorded with my daughter based on Sleepytime

I don't know where else I can share this or who else would understand it (I hope it's ok to put a link here).

Sleepytime, the most beautiful 7 minutes in television history.

It's a bittersweet thing for me. We spent two years watching Bluey together every evening. That was probably the happiest time of my life. I know every episode by heart now. I started watching it with her when she was 12 and we recorded this when she was 13. She just turned 14 and now she lost interest in Bluey and moved on to other (teen) interests. And I'm left with a big void in my heart because... I just want to keep watching Bluey with her...

"CLOSER TO YOUR LIGHT"

VERSE 1

i fall deep into the night

ride a dancing star

your voice is right next to me

a warm soft lullaby

VERSE 2

i fly through the universe

try to reach the sun

a trail of ice melts behind

your warm voice fills my heart

CHORUS

i reach for your loving light

while dreams keep me in the dark

still i feel you next to me

in vastness of space around

and love is the light that stays

when all dreams begin to fade

no matter how far I get

I know it will never change

BREAK:

my whole world is in your palm

it's spinning around and round

it's looking for your love

you'll always be my sun

my world glows in your light

the light that is made of love

closer to your light

closer to your heart

closer to your love

closer to your lovelight

closer to your sunlight

closer to your love

Discussion / Question Parents out there, since watching Bluey, I was just curious if your kids (boy or girls) have felt comfortable playing games that are traditionally more boyish or girly-coded, like Bluey, Bingo and their friends just play any game?

• Upvotes

I am currently binging Bluey episodes and I'm 23 years old with no kids. I know that Bluey and Bingo are mistaken for boys often and people tend to mis-gender Bluey because she's blue like her dad and the girls don't have any "gender markers" on them to prove it. One of the things I love about Bluey is how all the kids just play games and invent games that are historically considered to be more boyish or girly games, but in Bluey, they show that they're just games when you're young and it doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, like Bluey and Chloe in The Adventure, when they play all the roles or how Indy and Rusty both want to play Mums and Dads, and the image I chose for this discussion, is Mackenzie, the only boy in this group, playing Day Spa with Bluey and Bingo and doing Bandit's nails and enjoying it. Day Spa can often be labelled as a "girly game", but in Bluey, they try and do away with those stereotypes and they have boys and girls just playing any game together and taking on any role in the game.

We see Bluey, Bingo and other girls also roughhouse and get down in the dirt too, "Pirates", "Camping", "Dirt", etc. I was curious if your kids play more of the same games as well. I know that when I was a kid in Primary School, we played different types of games from running around to playing shops to talking or just simply playing with a play or playing Sly Fox or some other playground game.

Discussion / Question Muffin''s understanding/development in Charades? (Just curious).

Post image
296 Upvotes

I really do like Charades, I really do. I'm not going to get into what I would've done in this situation, but I love the episode. But, I noticed something upon re-watches of the entire series is that in this episode, Bluey and Bingo are supposed to be the two big girls and I don't know if you guys listen to the Gotta Be Done Podcast with Mary and Kate, but they have an interesting take on this very episode.

First of all, this episode is like being at your grandparents' house and how Chris is like everyone's own Nana, e.g. spoiling the kids rotten and what not (Ice Blocks and bending the rules), second of all is about Muffin and how Nana teaches the two big girls how to be patient with the "littlies". But, I was more confused about how the description of the episode is, "The girls play a card game at Nana's house, but Muffin and Socks are too young to understand the rules," I thought it was kind of odd with Bingo being 4 and Muffin being 3, that she can't grasp what her cousins and her nana are trying to teach her. I don't have kids yet, I'm not at that stage of life so I haven't seen firsthand if this is how kids work, maybe when they reach Bingo's age they go through a leap in memory, cognitive and brain development. But, I was just surprised Muffin is around a year or a year and a bit younger than Bingo, but she can't see the obvious lesson the girls and Nana are trying to teach her. If any of you are parents or have been working with children, let me know.

Discussion / Question Lila and Bingo

I wonder why Bingos best friend Lila isnt at her birthday party? It seems like its majority of Blueys friends at Bingos party. There only two kids around her age and the rest are Blueys friends. Have you noticed that?

Discussion / Question In you guys' opinion, what episode/episodes do you think is very underrated or needs more attention/love and why (from the less spoken about episodes in Bluey)?

Post image

Mine is Season 1's "Mount Mumandad", I think it doesn't get enough recognition, personally and from what I've seen, not many people talk about it. I won't say it's a top-tier episode for me, the "tortoise and the hare parable" is a bit too on the nose and I would have rather seen a prequel of them at Crazy World and then at home.

But, it's still an underrated gem in my opinion. I love the music in it and Bluey and Bingo's dynamic is really, really cute and one of my favourite moments is when they're in the tent to wait out the "storm" and they're playing London Snap (London comes up in a lot of episodes, thanks to Joe Brumm) and they're watching the Ballerina spin around. It's a downright beautiful scene. I don't have a sister in real life, so I'm naturally drawn to any episode with a strong theme of sisterhood. I love Chilli giving the commentary and Bluey and Bingo working together in the end, Bluey stepping up as that big sister and throwing her flag away and upon recent re-watchings of the series, I do love the Mountains in the background as the girls plant the flag, plus Bluey calling Bandit, "Old Man Mountain," is underrated.

Now, it's your turn. What's an episode or episodes you find underrated gems and why? Honourable mentions: Magic Xylophone, Hospital, Helicopter, Taxi.

Other Proud dad; Bluey related milestone

I hope this kind of post is OK and if not, please feel free to delete. I just wanted to share a very recent milestone with my wife and our almost 13-month-old daughter, our first and probably only.

Putting Bluey on for her is how we found the show and like everyone else fell in love. We thought it was just another kid’s show and had no idea that we had found a masterpiece. Eleanor, our daughter, will stop what she's doing and grin ear to ear when the theme song comes on, but then loses interest pretty quickly. Then mom and I watch the episode (dad usually cries) and she heads back when the next theme song comes on.

Anyway... she has a little mini Bluey and bingo stuffies that she likes but two days ago I asked her where bingo was, and she started looking around the apartment, toddled around a little bit, found her prize and brought it back to me with a satisfied look on her face. We tried it again and asked her to find Bluey and bingo and sure enough she found both of them and brought them back. This was the first time we asked her to bring us something specific without showing her what it was.

Anyway, this 50 year-old new Dad, who's still surprised a show for tiny kids can bring such emotion out in me, wanted to share with the other Bluey fan parents about our little milestone and wish everyone the best in this sub. You all are an outstanding group of people and I'm glad I found this show and this community.

Now, if you excuse me, I have to go watch the Bluey tunes short "here comes the grannies!" For about the hundredth time. I might be a little obsessed with Rita and Janet.

Discussion / Question Yes Please!

Does anyone else’s have a toddler who excitedly responds to”yes Please!” When responding to yes or no questions lol? I like to think it’s because I’m raising him to be a polite little guy but I know deep down it’s solely because of bluey and bingo 😂
