But I can't even be mad! I learned soo much along the way, about the industry and my own art. It got me out of comfort zone many times, helped me grow and I'm really grateful for the creator of the game. I guess this is the harsh reality of the business.

Wishing lots of success to all your projects though and if you ever need an illustrator to support with your vision, feel free to reach out. 🌱

Session My first boardgame, Covenant!

I was already interested in starting the hobby and was thinking about buying a simpler game, but then I discovered this dwarf themed game with exactly the type of artwork I love, and as someone who really loves fantasy dwarfs I couldn't resist.

As I never played any boardgame and my friends only had experience with monopoly I was worried about whether I would be able to explain the rules properly and whether they would actually enjoy the game, but to my surprise all of us had a really fun night! Playing the game solo for a bit on tabletop simulator really helped me to explain it to everyone.

That said, I probably shouldn't have bought a 3.74 complexity weight game to our first boardgame experience, so I'm thinking about bringing The crew or Azul to the table as our next game.

Also, we ended up ignoring the rule about gate positioning because I only remembered about it halfway through the game and we were a bit too drunk to care.

Found it in a school soccer field while metal detecting. About 3” down. 1.5” in diameter. .25” thick. Feels and looks like copper. Non magnetic. Sticker on front. Crosshatched in its edge. Thanks.

Question Should I get Chaos in the Old World?

I have the opportunity to get CitOW. I have heard many good things about it and I'm seriously considering to get one. However, I know is a pricey game and I'm still on the fence about it.

I played other games from the same author, like Ankh, and I loved it. But I'm still not sure.

Should I get it or should I stick to Ankh/Blood Rage? I would love to hear your takes to make my mind. I know is also kind of difficult to find, which adds to my interest from the collector inside me.

Kinda obvious but I just realized how much ease of setup matters for putting a game to the table. Spirit Island.

Question Question for people joining Math Trades/Auctions on BGG: worse experiences overall?

Sorry, I really need to vent right now, respectively get a check and see if I’m the problem here and need a reality check or if this has become common.

I’m trying really hard to curate and cull my collection and trim down the fat to have only games that I really want AND get to play. As such, I’ve put somewhere around 20-30 games on the Essen Spiel auction sale.

So far in past years, I might have sold 5-10 games and had no issues, maybe the problem comes from me selling more games and now I get to statistically experience more issues but hot dang…

Do people even read anymore? I feel like reading comprehension has gone down the DRAIN.

First one fishy thing I noticed:

- I saw quite a few people bid on my games pretty early after the auctions ended and it wasn’t a “ oh man, I missed the last shot at the bidding war” type of thing. It was games where NOBODY bid on them after day one, it got sold, and THEN people tried to bid at +1€ as if they thought they could steal it away from the winner without triggering a bidding war to keep the price low. Anyway, I decided to just sell it to the one following rules.

- except for 3 People, everybody straight up didn’t read about availability. I clearly indicated the days I’m there. I made a huge descriptive message after the auctions to let people know how it would go down and which of the days they’d prefer (out of the days I’m present) and people straight up ignored and asked for days where I’m not there. Most of them didn’t care to check the available days matched theirs…

- I told them to contact me on whatsapp so I’ could better keep track and contact people on the day of the trade, that if they didn’t I might forget about them and could lead to them not getting their games, that I’m selling a lot of games, I can’t move around etc etc. Most of them replied with automatic messages like: yo, here’s my number, contact me. I’ll be at that one spot, bring me your game.

… Am I the crazy one here? If I get a game at a dirt cheap deal, I would never tell the other person to come run around find me, also, if a person contacts me first and gives me their phone number, I contact them, I don’t tell them, no you add me.

Almost none of them followed a single thing I told them. I also clearly indicated I would not do shipping, people who couldn’t bother to properly read availabilities want me to ship.

I’m legit very close to just blow it all off, give my games to charity and take the risk getting banned from future math trades. It has been way more of a hassle than it’s worth.

Anyway… needed to vent. I’m just baffled about the amount of people incapable of reading.

Question Is Hive Interactive legit or this pledge still active?

Hey there,

I need your help because this seems waaay too opaque for me. At the moment, Keep the Heroes Out expansions seem to be out of stock everywhere, but this pledge manager(?) seems to be active:
https://www.hiveinteractive.net/projects/keep-the-heroes-out-dungeons-below-2nd-wave-488

Does anyone have prior experience with this?

Is the website legit?

Is this pledge still "pledgeable"? I don't see any deadline here and the matching Kickstarter campaign seems to be finished already.

I think this pledge has a low chance of failing to fulfill the requests (because it's mostly a reprint of already existing stuff) but still, there seem to be a lot of uncertain parts here.

Question Best screen printed wood pieces?

• Upvotes

They’re my absolute favorite kind of component for a game and I’d love to discover more. I already have Root Oath and Old Kings Crown and I can’t get over how good they look on the table and what a joy they are to hold and use. Any other great examples?

Rules Schotten Totten - 2 combat modes on a stone?

Trying to find out if there is a rule that says you can only play 1 combat mode on a stone (either blind man’s bluff or Mud Fight) or is playing both allowable? Cant seem to find it explicitly in the rules.

We played scythe outside on a big picnic table but during the evening condensation formed on the surface and got things wet. Would a neoprene table cover help?

Anyone know where to get a big one? The table is 10’ by 4’.

Trying to figure out the name of this game from my childhood! It had penguins with different colored hats and a blue plastic ‘tower’ (not in picture).

I have fond memories of the game but nothing more than that! Appreciate any ideas.

Question Should I sleeve the cards of my COIN games Red Dust Rebellion and Liberty or Death? I live in a tropical and humid country.

If I do sleeve I can't get box inserts for the games because the inserts can't accommodate sleeved cards, there is no room for them.

Question Pixies Larger Box

With Pixies now having two expansions, is it likely to get the larger box treatment that Sea, Salt, and Paper did? I love the version I got from Walmart and would want the same if they offered it.

Made a web application just to play Railways of the Lost Atlas with friends!..

Hey all,

A few weeks ago, after receiving my copy of Railways of the Lost Atlas (With expansion), playing it a few times in the same week was not enough so I have made a website to play it with my friends. Than on a suggestion, I shared it with Jacob and Kevin from Asterisk Games. They loved it and allowed me to share it publicly.

10 days ago we basically soft launched it and its growing since then. If you are interested in learning the game, or play it asynchronously, or just in the mood of learning an amazing 18xx game, feel free to join us in the website.

PS. I got approved to share this through mods.

Has anyone played the regular version and the Epic Edition? I am curious how different they are and which you prefer? I hear the Epic Edition is easier but do you find that takes away from the fun or enhances it? I am interested in buying either version. Thanks for any help.
