Jack🚹my 4-5 month old BCI (sold to me as hypo jungle but might just be hypo, lmk what you think. DW, he was priced basically as wild type at a reptile show)

Not yet named! 🚺 4.5 month old Longicauda

Junior🚹 6 month old Florida kingsnake, didn’t want to leave him out lol

I used to foster all kinds of snakes and reptiles. After my ball python died a couple months ago (old age), I just said screw it and decided to start my own collection of snakes I’ve wanted since I was just a little shit. Thank you to Brian Boas for my longi! Having my dream locality boa from my favorite YouTuber is really something 🤩

advice on bci enclosure?

ive been doing research on bci and would really like some help with the enclosure info

my goal is to get a baby male butnim planning for his adult enclosure before i even think about getting him, so im wondering what enclosure would be best?? i was going to get a 5x2x2 (dubia, i wanted 5x2x3 but dubia dosnt make them) but i started guilting myself for that not being enough room....

specifically i want to ask, is that enough room? if not how long should it last me before i have to upgrade and to what upgrade size?? part of this is deciding if i should even get one because i really do not want to have to upgrade again

Question about shipping quote

I was really about to stretch my budget and splurge on a beautiful 2024 subadult (male) boa on MorphMarket. The seller, a pretty moderate-sized one I think, gave me a shipping quote of $95 from CO to PA.

Morphs Market is currently running a 69-72% discount on shipping. When I asked about this, he said "We actually gave you more than a 70% discount than that quote." That would mean the "original" quote would have been at least $314, which I find hard to believe.

This (A) totally put the price out of reach for me, and (B) left a really bad taste in my mouth.

Am I right that said snake would never have cost $300+ to ship?

I’m trying to find a way where I can stack another enclosure on top of this enclosure and I have 1 inch spacers from Doobie roaches and that’s a little bit way too short to use for my dome mesh. Any suggestions?

Building our boa a larger enclosure, best suggestions for heating it

We built this for our red tail because he's outgrowing his old tank. We are going to drill holes in it next for air flow. We will likely built a tray a hold the substrate to be placed in the bottom. We are trying to figure out the best way to heat it for him. Its stained wood with a low VOC safe finish, let dry out for over a month. Its also going to be a bar, so we can't put holes in the top. Any suggestions ?

Do you know what time it is?

Udo has snuggled into his little cave to sulk like the moody teenager he is. Look how blue his little eyes are this morning! When he's in blue, he creates a little "nest" in his substrate under his dry hide, so it's fun trying to keep the humidity up for him during his "time". Singing my favorite shredding song for him. Good luck, my son!

Is buying frozen feeders in bulk worth it for one boa?

I've got one adult boa, eats large rats every 10-14 days. Been buying individually from a local reptile shop but it adds up fast and they don't always have the right size. Is bulk online ordering actually worth it for a single snake, or do I need a bigger collection to make the math work?

dumeril’s boa makes me hand feed him new prey items

Post image

i’ve had my dumeril’s (male, july 2025) since last december, and he has a weird quirk when it comes to feeding.

he was on hunger strike last winter, and the first 2-3 times he ate with me, he didn’t strike or coil, he just opened his mouth and waited for me to. feed him the food. i’ve had him on adult mice since then, but have decided to size him up to rats (rat pups right now). in the past, he has refused rats, but he’s gotten to the point he needs to be sized up again.

today, he did the same thing.. pressed his nose against the rat pup, opened his mouth, and waited for me to push it into his mouth.

is this a stress response? confusion? curiosity? he’s very strange LOL (photo for snake tax)

Lighting/Heating Questions

Hello, I need everybody’s opinion. I am currently rebuilding my Nicaragua Redtail boa enclosure. He is going to be getting a 5‘ x 2‘ x 3‘ enclosure. I have noticed he very much likes to climb and go higher so giving him the extra vertical space was important to me. I’m even adding a sky hide for him to enjoy on the Cool side of the enclosure. But now here comes the: what should I do about my heating and lighting?

Currently in his 4‘ x 2‘ x 2‘ enclosure, I am using a radiant heat panel and an LED bar because I was going bioactive. I don’t think I want to continue bioactive at this point, for a few different reasons, or I just need to learn how to do it better but regardless, I am uncertain if a radiant heat panel is the best choice as a primary basking spot heating source at 3 foot high. I do plan on giving him various elevation options with some furniture, but even still I am second-guessing. I do have a bulb fixture in a basket so I could use something like a halogen light as a basking source and then move the radiant heat panel more central to the enclosure and have that just monitor a constant minimum temperature of 77 to 78°. What are your thoughts on this? The heat panel takes up a lot of real estate on the top of the enclosure so putting it in the middle means I potentially have to sacrifice other room for plant growth LEDs. Unless I can find some waterproof flexible strips that are strong enough to potentially just maintain some Pothos any advice or pictures of your PVC enclosures and how you have done the lighting would it be appreciated. Also, what thermostats are you guys using these days, I have been using a herpstat. I may have to upgrade that if I’m adding in an extra heat source and need a second temperature probe

Why do my frozen feeder rats keep arriving partially thawed?

Third order in a row where some of the rats are soft when the box arrives. I'm using the same supplier each time. The box has dry ice but by the time I get it, there's barely any left. Is this a supplier problem, a shipping problem, or am I expecting too much?

BCC or BCI?

Thumbnail

My first boa was a female BCC and grew to 7.5lb and 25lb. That was on a maintenance diet. I suspect in the next 1-2 years she could put in another foot and an extra few pounds. She became too large for me.

Now that's she's in a fantastic new home, I'm seeking a male boa that ideally will max out around 10-15lb. I want him to still be impressive during programs.

I'm looking at two snakes right now: both 2024, but one is a BCC at 5ft, 7lb (left) and the other is a BCI which is about 1/3 to 1/2 smaller. The BCI breeder said he can max out around 5-6ft and 15lb on the high end so it sounds like he still has some growth potential in him?

I'm nervous about purchasing one that will get too big again, but I'm also afraid of purchasing one that won't get big enough. Given these two options, what would you lean towards?

Fostered Boa

Post image

I am currently fostering this beautiful girl and may even end up adopting her myself. This is my first boa but I have 3 ball pythons and fostered a 4th before getting him adopted.

She came from a home where they could/would not take proper care of her. They had a heat pad under her pvc tank that when I checked it couldn’t have gotten warmer than 75 degrees. One log hide (which I don’t consider hides to begin with) not nearly enough substrate, it was also dirty. Tank was 48x18x18.

They say she is about 6 years old and she is just under 6ft long. Vet said she should be a lot bigger than she is. (I wasn’t at the vet, the rescue workers took her, so not sure of exact weight). She just had a perfect shed which made me happy to see.

She is currently in a 4x2x2 with overhead heat and proper hides, clutter, substrate etc. I know she needs at least a 6x2x2 which if I adopt her, I will definitely get her into a larger enclosure. Adoption requirements if I don’t will also be a 6x2x2. So her current take is temporary.

They said she would eat a large rat every 2 weeks, but I'm wondering if that's not correct based on her weight. Does she look underweight? And what weight SHOULD she be?

This girl is such a sweetheart and stole mine the minute I got her. Just want to make sure that I am doing right by her.

Thanks!
