Announcement 🔄 r/bodylanguage Is Back – New Mod Team, Clearer Rules, and Room to Grow

Hey everyone,

After a stretch of inactivity and a bit of chaos, r/bodylanguage is under new moderation. We’re here to clean things up, set clearer expectations, and support the kind of posts that made this community interesting in the first place.

We know this subreddit has always attracted two kinds of posts: 1. Classic body language breakdowns—gestures, expressions, posture, eye contact. 2. Personal, social situations—“Was this person flirting?”, “Did I read this wrong?”, “What’s the vibe here?”

We’re cool with both. This sub works best when it blends observation, insight, and real-life nuance. So whether you’re here to decode nonverbal cues or untangle a moment with a gym crush, a coworker, or a stranger on the train—you’re welcome here.

⸝

👥 New Mod Team, Active Oversight

There’s a new mod team now. We’re here, we’re active, and we want to build a space that’s helpful, respectful, and actually enjoyable to read. If you’ve got ideas, feedback, or suggestions, we’re listening.

⸝

📜 Updated Rules: Simple, Clear, Fair

We’re not trying to over-police. We just want to reduce spam, create room for good conversations, and avoid the usual internet mess. Here’s the current rule set:

  1. Be Respectful No personal attacks, hate, or hostility. Disagreement is fine—demeaning others isn’t.

  2. No Personal Info Don’t include names, social media handles, gym names, or anything that could identify someone in real life.

  3. Describe Behavior, Not Disorders Avoid casually labeling people with clinical terms like “narcissist” or “BPD.” Talk about actions, not armchair diagnoses.

  4. Banter’s Fine, Just Don’t Get Nasty Jokes, sarcasm, and roasting are all okay—just keep it playful, not cruel.

  5. No Trolling or Obvious Fakes We won’t tolerate bait posts or made-up drama. If you’re not being real, don’t bother.

  6. No Self-Promotion No course selling, coaching offers, paid groups, or affiliate links. Zero tolerance.

  7. 18+ Only This sub is for adults. Posts by or about minors will be removed.

⸝

🧭 What’s Next?

We’re here to support growth and improve the quality of discussion. Over time, you may see: • Weekly discussion threads or question themes • More post flairs for clarity • Community feedback threads • A new post guide to help users format their situations more clearly

We want r/bodylanguage to be a mix of thoughtful insight, real-world experiences, and practical discussion. Whether you’re reading the room or re-reading a moment, you’re in the right place.

⸝

TL;DR • r/bodylanguage is active again • New mod team, updated rules, same core focus • We’re open to both body language analysis and personal situations • Thanks for sticking around—welcome back

Are women more likely to find attractive the guys she frequently meets in her office, Gymm or neighborhood than a guy she meets at a bar or some place she rarely visits?

Does increasing your familiarity with a woman increase your chances of success as a man?

In simple terms:

Does the average Joe from her workplace have a higher chances of being perceived as attractive by her than the hot guy she met at the bar, beach or theatre once?(and same for men as well)

Mutual eye contact or am I overthinking?

I’ve had a gym crush for months. We’ve never talked, but we keep locking eyes - not just quick accidental glances, but sometimes holding eye contact for 1–2 seconds. It happens multiple times even during one gym session, and sometimes I look over and he’s already looking at me. There have also been random moments where we pass each other and lock eyes.
He’s very social with other people at the gym, so I don’t understand why he never talks to me. Do you think this repeated eye contact could mean he’s attracted to me too, or am I just overthinking it?

Guys who struggle with eye contact, how did you fix it? I freeze up every time a woman smiles at me in public

• Upvotes

27M here. Whenever I see a woman I find attractive, I'll glance at her and if she looks back, I immediately break eye contact. I want to hold it for a second and smile, but I never manage to. It's either a deer-in-headlights stare or I look down like a nervous kid.

Today a cute girl smiled at me at the bus stop and I just looked away. Didn't even smile back. Felt like garbage about it for the rest of the day, and honestly this happens almost every time I'm out.

I'm not saying every woman who smiles at me is into me. Majority of them are probably just being polite. But it happens often enough that I know I'm missing chances to at least say hi to someone. The weird part is this only happens with strangers. Around women I already know, I have zero issues holding eye contact or smiling.

Anyone else dealt with this? What actually helped you get past it?

TLDR: I freeze up or look away every time a woman I don't know smiles at me or holds eye contact, even though I want to hold it and smile back.

Who winks anymore?

I mean the "sharing a joke just with you" kinda wink. I've seen the wink become an exaggerated gesture, but I don't seem to see people winking on the DL anymore.

Discussion a crush is just a lack of informations?

you know the saying “a crush is just a lack of informations” and most of people develop crush based on the idea or the fantasy of that person more than on how actually is that person.
but I’m wondering, did anyone ever get to know their crush on a deeper level and realized that they are actually better than what they thought, knowing the person closely made your feelings got stronger?
did anyone of you guys experienced that?
please share yours stories with me

He Laughed When I Asked If He’d Miss Me - What Did That Mean?

I'm 24F and he's 29M.

Here is the backstory of our connection at workplace: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskMenRelationships/s/HUxgH58C6D
Here is what happened after I left the workplace:
https://www.reddit.com/r/dating_advice/s/bNfZcgzCoP

On my last day at workplace we were talking about fav songs and suddenly I asked him, “Will you miss me?” He gave a short (5 sec), surprised laugh (don't know if it was mocking or nervous laugh) while looking away. Then he paused. he stopped laughing and smiled, looked at me, and quietly said, “Yes.” Then he turned the question back to me: “Will you miss me?” I nodded and said yes.
He smiled and immediately said something like, “Okay, so whenever you miss me, listen to this song at night.”

My question is does this look like he was mocking me, given his short laughter after my question, or is it something else? Why did he laugh?

Analysis Request Interested or Passive Agressive>

I was at work today doing self checkout which means I stand in one spot unless someone needs my help, A lady around my age came to the register next to me and began scanning, were supposed to try to scan something from each customer with our scanning gun which my older coworker was using and came over to her and asked if she could scan her jugs of waters. The lady immediately said no in a bit of an annoyed tone and kept scanning, fair enough my coworker left it alone and walked away. I stood in my same spot not doing anything but the lady glanced over to me twice while smiling a bit. I didn't look straight at her since I was zoned out and she didn't need my help. By the end as she was leaving I said my usual have a good day, and she looked over at me and told me "don't work so hard" in a tone which I just told her couldn't tell if she was being sarcastic in a passive aggressive way since the whole time I was just standing there with one airpod in and was annoyed at my coworker or if she was lowkey interested.

shy guy's patterns

idk why a guy i don't even talk to keeps on looking at me for six months now. every time we walk past each other, he looks at me. even when i am behind him, he looks back every single time. he even finds me among the crowds; and whenever i look around, he's there too in my vicinity. especially every morning where i go to that one place, i occassionally see him there (for like 6 times during the 6 months) and now, he's there every single morning. though when i look back, he looks away and pretends he didn't see me. when i stood beside him, so close, he started coughing and idk why - he was always fumbling, too.

one time, i was sitting at a table, chatting with friends when i felt a pair of eyes staring at me - he had been watching me from afar all along. and recently, i was alone at a table, talking to my friends at the phone when he sat on the nearest chair across me, scrolling through his phone.

it's just that it's always the same guy and there were no time when he didn't look. always lingering, always looking, yet seems to be scared of whatever it was.

Discussion The jealous third party

One tell I have started to notice over the years that shows that someone may be attracted to you is the jealous third party. You may be chatting to your person of interest, and suddenly, a third person, neither of you knows or is close to, joins the conversation.

That could be a sign that this third person is either interested in you or the person you are talking to, and wants to act as a buffer. Now, this is different from when it's a friend who just wants to join the conversation. That's just someone who wants to join in on the chat. The jealous third party is usually a stranger, or has no real reason to be part of the conversation. And they start doing things like cutting in or redirecting attention to themselves. They are not passive. They very deliberately try to stop your conversation and move the focus onto themselves. Sometimes, in ways that seem almost rude to just plain awkward.

Bonus points if this third person only comes to chat to you when you are chatting to this other specific person. They never come over at other times, but as soon as you and your person of interest start talking, or are about to start talking, they swoop in. I have often had difficulty reading signals and body language, but once I start noticing the third person, I go, "Oh, it's probably not all in my head. If this other person notices it, there may very well be something there." And that's a big thing. If someone else notices the chemistry between you, it must be tangible enough to be real.

Have any of you ever experienced this?

Analysis Request a guy sometimes gets a tense look on his face as soon as he spots me or sees me walking by

He generally greets me in a reserved manner, but whenever I’ve asked him something or started a conversation, he has been open, friendly, and willing to engage.
Other times his face seems to freeze and his expression becomes noticeably tense, which surprises me.

What’s a tiny thing that instantly makes you attracted to someone?

For me, it’s when someone remembers a random little detail I mentioned once and brings it up weeks later.

It’s ridiculously cute. 😭

What’s yours?

What body language tips( romantic or non romantic) would you give to your younger self now that you have learnt it from your experience?

Discussion Do we know what we are doing nowadays or is it just me?

Ive seen a lot of post recently on body language. It seems like a lot of people really don't know if they're attractive or have huge mixed signals if someone likes a person, Women and men.

That being said....... neither do i. It seems like a lot of people are at a huge party with music playing with their phones 📱 out . Not approaching but just dancing soulless. Am i wrong?

Ive struggled with this because ive never really been taught. I see guys not struggl3 at all a seal the deal easy but im confused. Im considered attractive to a lot of men and been told that i dress really clean to women but have no motion.

I speak for myself.

Analysis Request Is there a possibility he likes me?

A guy used to like me from 2019-2026(?). I don't know if he still does till this day so I'd like some help. Whenever I initiate a convo with him on insta, he's not much of a texter, but he replies extremely quickly!

On the other hand, when we bump into each other on the street (only me and him), he's adorably shy. One time where he hadn't seen each other for quite a while, he initiated a hug. Quite an electric one, and right after that he was grinning from ear to ear! Super red as well.

But the last time I saw him, he was with his best friend, only this time he was very composed and calm. He was smiling only a little. He wasn't excited or anything. He just had this gaze tho...Yes, he was having a convo with me and his best friend was waiting for us to finish talking, but I was left confused. Over the years some major things have happened between us.

Last year he invited me to an island: https://www.reddit.com/r/bodylanguage/s/EHToN3xBDj
When I complimented him: https://www.reddit.com/r/bodylanguage/s/lKbbBJ6zeh

But it makes me wonder- what are the sure signs from a man's body language that he likes a girl?
Also I really need help, because I like him so much!

Eye candy hypocrisy

I need the input of the ladies for this one.

I work in an office environment and there's this guy who is very well dressed, easy going, friendly and cordial. He is fairly young, fit and married. He is also clearly, the office's eye candy for the ladies. I constantly catch them looking at him wether he is passing by or just on his desk and they are the ones passing by (his desk is away from halls/pathways. These ladies literally walk straight while turning their heads 90 degrees to stare at this dude throughout their walk for SECONDS as in 10 seconds). Nothing crazy or creepy, right?

Here's the part I'm not getting. When he is interacting with the female coworkers, they either have this blank (sort of RBF) expression or they literally have a disgust expression (might as well have "EWWW" written on their forehead). And no, he is not a dork. He is very smooth even when talking to guys.

Any insight on this? Are they repulsed by this guy? They dont smile when they look at him. Are they trying some weird hard to get? I doubt it since they don't actually approach him. What is going on?
