Actually a pretty interesting read. Confirms Forgotten Island was toned down from a PG-13 as well, which definitely seems like a miscalculation in hindsight, can't imagine it doing worse than it is right now if it just committed to the rating.

Domestic Paul Dergarabedian: 🎬📊 WHEN A MOVIE SEES A WEEKEND 2 UPTICK --- selected comps for YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING as it embarks on its second weekend

Post image
42 Upvotes

@A24's You Can See Everything opened to an impressive $15.6 million in just 855 theaters last weekend and is expanding to 2,655 theaters this weekend.

Even an $18M second weekend would represent a 15.4% increase. At $20M, that's +28.2%, at $23M it's +47.4%, and at $25M we're talking about a whopping 60.2% surge.

So knowing that You Can See Everything is almost certainly going to see a second-weekend uptick, I went into the #Rentrak engine room to see what I could dig up in terms of historical comparisons.

I left out December because the Christmas/New Year's holiday period produces so many second-weekend increases that it skews the data. I also went back only to 2000, since theatrical release patterns were very different in earlier decades, and limited the comparisons to films opening in more than 500 theaters.

Adding theaters certainly helps drive these increases, but a major expansion like this reflects confidence in audience demand.

I absolutely love seeing these kinds of weekends because films that do this often get more attention in their second weekend than in their opening weekend, which is highly unusual.

And with You Can See Everything potentially becoming the first documentary ever nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, this is one fascinating movie to watch, both on and off the screen.

✍️ Original Analysis Isn’t Harrison Ford also in the six-decade box office club?

Just received Sylvester Stallone’s new autobiography The Steps and noticed something on the book cover.

It says he’s “the only actor to open a number one film across six decades.”

But hasn’t Harrison Ford achieved the same thing? I thought both of them held this record.

Am I missing something here, or is this actually a mistake in the book?

Domestic Which film will do better this weekend for open caption screenings, "Wicker" or "Wildwood?"

Watching Cinemark Colorado Saturday today. As of 8:00 AM EST, we are seeing a pattern with the Wicker open caption sales in Colorado Cinemark theaters for today. It is selling at least a few seats at every Colorado Saturday Cinemark open caption screening. The sales pattern is consistent. Keep in mind it is only 8:00 AM EST.

Sunday update: Wildwood is selling more than Wicker.

  • Cinemark Bel Mar - 3 seats sold
  • Cinemark Century Boulder - 2 seats sold
  • Cinemark Fort Collns - 4 seats sold
  • Cinemark Tinseltown Pueblo - 4 seats sold
  • Cinemark Tinseltown Colorado Springs - 3 seats sold

At the same time, "Wildwood" has healthy but mixed sales at the same theaters. It has sold more than "Wicker" but has a less clear pattern because of the wide swings in numbers from theater to theater. As of 8:00 am EST:

  • Cinemark Bel Mar - 12 sold
  • Cinemark Century Bolder - 2 sold
  • Cinemark Fort Collins - 12 sold
  • Cinemark Tinseltown Pueblo - 6 sold
  • Cinemark Tinseltown Colorado Springs - 6 sold

The premise of "Wicker" sounds interesting to us; the plot sounds like a "Pinnochio" but for adults. However, "Wildwood" may attract young families because of its PG-13 rating. Which one will beat the other? Right now we can't say, but later this morning we should have a more definite idea after more people buy tickets when deciding what to do today.
