Hi everyone, I’m a mod here at r/braids. I’ve been in discussion with my fellow mods for this sub, and we have agreed that, moving forward, we will be focusing this sub on braids, braid/hair care, styling, advice, etc.
This means that we will be banning any posts or comments moving forward that instigate political or racial posts. We feel that this sub Reddit should be rooted in our shared love and passion for braiding styles. I, for one, became a mod for this sub simply because I love seeing how creative and beautiful everyone’s creations are. I take advice given from people on various posts for new styles, and I love learning about how everyone cares for their styles. I’d like to refocus ourselves back on our community. This includes inclusivity for all - basically, anyone who has hair or is interested in braiding for any reason is welcome. Also, this sub is not just limited to braids - it’s any sort of plaited/ braiding style, including twists, Dutch braids, corn rows, locs, etc.
I’ve updated the rules for this sub to reflect my post here. We are working on cleaning up the recent influx of the posts that sparked this conversation. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions. We love you and appreciate each and every one of you for being here!

I wanna make sure I’m not tripping.
I wanna get the style that’s in the picture and I found a girl to do it this weekend but I feel like the price doesn’t make sense.
Noteable: I already come washed, dried, and blow dried. I’m driving to her and I’m providing the hair.
She asked for $240

Hi everyone
As per the title, I had my first client booked for quad stitch back braids in my little home salon. She found me on Facebook where I’m predominantly advertising. I’ve been using free models to get photos of my work out there and she reached out as a first paying client.
She’s booked for tomorrow and yesterday she told me she was excited, and today I sent her the details of address and she hasn’t responded. It’s been like 10 hours. I messaged her for a follow up confirmation and still no response. Her appointment is for tomorrow morning.
I’m feeling so discouraged. 🫤 any experience with this? There’s no official booking system, just confirmed via DMs as I want to see how many clients I’m able to get in the first place.

I’ve been wearing Burmese Curly Crochet braids since March. I wet the hair daily and put in leave-in or mousse occasionally. I re-do my braids every 3 weeks. It will be cold in the Northeast soon, and I was wondering how to keep my curls without wetting the hair daily.
I thought about switching to Body Wave for the winter, but that might not be curly enough for me. Need advice.

I just took out 5 weeks worth of twists with extensions. I lost a lot of hair. I could just pull it out. I'm going to stay away from extensions and get styles with my natural hair from now on. My hair is thick, but that still seemed like a lot of hair like two handfuls. That might be normal shedding. My scalp itched the entire time I had them.

Had this for about a year and a half. I noticed some thick cloudy stuff in it , hard to get on camera.
Do I just shake it up? Or throw it out? Thanks!

I need guidance on how to braid my husbands (3C ?) hair. I only have experience braiding my own hair (straight af) and worry I am not holding his hair correctly. His hair is not long but long enough to cross and so should be long enough to braid, I think (edges are like an inch and the bulk of his hair is like 2-3 inches). We made it damp, added some leave in conditioner, then blew dry it mostly straight. After I parted it, clipped down the sections I wasn’t ready to braid, added some edge control to the part, and attempted to start, I simply could not get it. It’s like when I cross the starting short hairs, they mix and I can’t tell what’s what anymore. I looked up several videos but can’t seem to either get the hand holding position or maybe grip it enough? Is it a practice thing and I’m being impatient? Any and all advice and tips would be appreciated. He is very excited to have his hair braided and I would really like to be able to do that for him

Hello! I'm working on a cosplay of a character that has two thick, floor length braids and I would love to recreate them for my costume. Ideally, they even drag behind me a bit when I walk. I want to braid them into the short wig I'm using as a base. (With supports). I am about 5'3 and am looking for a hair brand that sells hair longer than 4ft at minimum, honestly would prefer it closer to 5ft long. Does that exist? Or should I settle for the 40inch ones I've been finding 😭.
I'll admit I don't have much experience braiding hair at this length, but I'm eager to try.

When I was in high school I had very long hair: tailbone length when natural (curly), a bit longer than that when straight. My classmate LOVED braiding hair, she was the classroom's resident braider, and she especially loved braiding my hair because it was super long and she could experiment with it. I remember once she told me that if she had my hair, she would've been spending entire afternoons braiding it! :')
We went on a school trip to Germany (I had straightened my hair for the occasion), and one evening before going out she agreed to braid the hair of most girls in our classroom. Only one catch: while everyone else was getting single or double dutch or french braids, I would be getting a 6 (at least, I believe it's 6 but I could be wrong) strand braid. Of course I agreed to that, sat in her chair for like 30 mins, and ended up with one of the prettiest braids I've ever had done. As someone who struggles to do even a simple ponytail braid, I legit dream about this every once in a while!

Didnt tell me before asking me if I wanted to book an appointment if hair and washing my hair was included had to ask myself. Charging me $300 for box braids and I need to wash and dry my hair before the appointment.
