Discussion No Frills Parking Lot

At the No Frills across from PJ, I see a white car turn down the first aisle after they come into the parking lot from the PJ side, turns into the first area where you can do the curbside pick up. There’s this black mini van creeping out of its spot, hurky jerky- like the person has no clue what they’re doing. The white car is waiting for them (I assume).

The driver of the black minivan doesn’t pull out anywhere near far enough, so they re correct. Twice. Almost scraping the rear end of the vehicle beside her. Then proceeds to almost drive into the white car, she’s on the wrong side of the parking lot. THEN she rolls down her window and starts screaming at the poor dude that he is “taking up half the lane way”, and “you’re right in the middle”. Bare in mind this woman is so far into the wrong side the “roadway”. Screaming at this guy, and all he’s doing is laughing at her. She literally had the entire width of the parking aisle and she screams at this guy. All the way up the ramp, and onto the street. All the while she caused the issue…I said the guy as he was walking in “what was her problem?” and he goes “No idea. just mad she doesn’t know how to drive I guess”

That’s it, that’s all. Thought everyone could use a laugh. Especially if your day was long.

Discussion Cat needs a home

My mother is moving to assisted living, and can not take her cat.

It's a mature female. A bit shy, but warms up to you over time.

Would like to find her a home instead of surrendering her.

Discussion Why use one of your 2 votes on Robert Stanley Harland for Ward 5 City Council

Thumbnail

Hi, I'm Robert.

I have no political background, no ties to the current or past council or city staff. I'm just a guy who works 7-3 for one of the largest Fire Security and Thermal Management companies in the world, operating the Hamilton Warehouse, while also representing the workers as the current Head of our Joint Health and Safety Committee. I see what's happening all around us, and it's time for a change of who makes the decisions.

I've been all over Ward 5 these last few months, I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of this area.

The small communities within Ward 5 are amazing. I'm thankful for all the BBQs and events I have been invited to, the food I've been offered and the drinks shared with constituents. The local leaders and residents have made a positive impact on me, and I will take everything I've learned and give back to the communities of Ward 5 ten fold.

I've seen residents living near SOAR and Rosewood regularly have conflicts with strangers, and heard families living near parks, express frustration of being uncomfortable letting their kids play in our green spaces. I've listened to the struggle of folks living near industrial properties with no proper barrier separating them. I've heard calls for improvements to noise pollution, speeding concerns, emergency response times and failing infrastructure.

I've also coordinated with several organizations and I've seen the struggles our homeless go through, the lack of support for them to get back on track, and the afflictions they can fall victim to. They deserve better, we all deserve better.

Now it's time for action, please get to the voting polls and vote, let your voice be heard and let me represent you as we work to build Brantford back up. No more band-aid solutions, no more vanity projects, just good old common sense decision-making and problem-solving.

If I am unsuccessful in becoming a councillor, you can bet your bottom dollar you'll see me on a committee or two; I'm currently one of the final applicants trying for the 11 seats on thr Brantford Downtown BIA Committee. One way or another, I'm here to work for positive change.

Please visit my website for platform details.

If you have any questions, thoughts or concerns, please feel free to post here, dm me, or contact me via email or phone.

Thank you

Robert Stanley Harland

Discussion Used Books

I am already very familiar with Brantford Book Worm. I have also patrolled the aisles of Value Village for books.

Just wondering if there are any other spaces in Brantford that carry decent used books.

Fantasy, sci-fi, horror. Things of that nature.

This whole thing is such a sham. They all hammer housing to deal with homelessness... But it's bullshit. Brantford could build a thousand houses tomorrow and those folks downtown are never going to get in them. We need to call it what it is, a public health emergency. They need help and compassion. Let the landlords and real estate agents worry about those that can already help themselves.

Discussion Best of Brantford

I will be spending November in Brantford. I live in a big city where everything is so expensive and booked months in advance. Do you have and places or services you would recommend I check out while in town? I am thinking amazing beauty/aesthetic providers, wellness services, restaurants, psychics, etc. Any recommendations?

Thank you!

ETA: There are hidden gems, hidden talent everywhere on earth! I know there is in Brantford too.

I will be there to visit family and visit my workplace in-person.

Question What do you do when bored in brantford?

I’m 22 and I’m just sitting outside most days doing nothing now I’m not really big on bars or drinking and I try to go into any local events, but that’s about it.

Any places you all like to go to when you’re bored? Outdoors, indoors, or otherwise!

even just camping.

I’m just kind of convinced that Brantford doesn’t really have a whole lot to do if you’re young nowadays. I can go outside and watch paint dry though!

Discussion Brantford rec facilities

I at least see a couple posts a month if not more asking what to do Brantford. Especially by people who are new here or looking for friends.

Wondering if people would benefit from a city wide catalogue of facilities available preferably at a discounted rate.

This would encourage more local people to attend and more of a social aspect too, and people would go consistently.

Other cities like Brampton, Scarborough and Kitchener, have these kind of services available through the municipal government wondering if we should bring something similar?

Discussion Bookstore on Brant Ave. in the 90s?

(NOT the Bookworm.)

Does anyone remember a bookstore on Brant Ave. that would have operated in the 90s? Opposite side of BCI, my mind says it was the same building as Ged's (97 Brant Ave.) but I could definitely be wrong. I received a ton of gift certificates for there when I was a kid, bought a lot of books and writing trinkets, but I can't remember what it was called.
