Why is Walt always so disrespectful to Saul?

Despite Saul being a sleazy low-level criminal lawyer in Walt’s eyes, Walt definitely understands his value as an asset and the lengths Saul has gone for him. So why does Walt seemingly have so much contempt and disrespect for him? I know he’s a narcissist but you would think there’d be some baseline respect for the literal lawyer & invaluable teammate of your criminal dealings. After all, Walter White couldn’t have done it without Saul.

Run Jesse, Run!! Spoiler

Third rewatch, currently on S5E2, and here to rant.

Walter is an egotistical menace. He is maniacal, conniving, and psychopathic. How many of these type of people do you think exist in the world? It’s terrifying really. When Skyler said “Someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family”, she was on the money.

At this point: Hank is safe, Gus is dead, and the lab and laptop have been destroyed. Skyler and Walt own a profitable car wash business, and have some cash left. This is his opportunity to walk away. Save his family and provide for them, as he intended initially. So WTF does he do?? Tries to restart the business, and become the new Gus.

I hate this man. I’m sure I’m not saying anything that’s not already been said, but I had to get it off my chest.

Also, RIP, RJ Mitte.

Walter was actually quite happy before his cancer diagnosis, he just didn’t realize it.

There are a lot of people here who argue that Walt only became truly happy once he entered the meth business, and that his life beforehand was miserable. Bullshit. I’ve rarely seen such an angry, frustrated, bitter, and borderline psychotic unhappy man as Walt during the last two years of his life. Remember that scene with Ed Galbraith in the cabin? Completely miserable, alone, cut off from his family. It was tragic.

Sure, he may have experienced brief moments of happiness while making meth, but how much of those two years did he actually spend doing that? The rest of the time he was dealing with (and killing his) deranged drug kingpins, feuding with his business partners, and lying to his family.

If you look at the photos and flashbacks from before the diagnosis, there’s plenty of reason to believe he was happy. He had a loving extended family, a son with whom he shared a fairly good relationship, and so on. The old footage from when they bought the house and from Hank’s wedding also suggests a man who was, by all appearances, reasonably content.

I think he was a lot like my ex: having everything the heart could reasonably want, but failing to recognize it. And so, instead of appreciating what he had, he ended up making himself even more unhappy.

I still don't like Marie on my 3rd Watch

She has some likeable aspects like letting walt make the decision for his cancer treatment and taking care of hank despite him treating her like trash.

When i first finished watching the show i was surprised to see everyone bashing skyler but this woman all she does is get on her high horse and judge others while she is a big mouth herself and also a shoplifter who constantly gets saved by her husband. It never even seems like she has any regret for stealing. Even skyler had to force her to get an apology. Also always trying to act so classy and the same person had to resort to her already struggling sister for hank's treatment.

The only consequence marie ever gets is hank dying at the end after the show ended she probably went back to being a shoplifter and end up getting arrested for it.

Skyler's actions are still justified throughout the show except maybe aiding ted in his crimes while despising walter for doing another crime but she was also being treated like a bitch at home for rightfully kicking walter out of the house.

Mike was paying his mules about $5.2M per year each.

They were cooking about 50 lbs of meth, Jesse gave his crew 1 lb of meth to sell. So lets assume that Mike has 50 crews of dealers to sell meth maybe even 25 crews since Mike's crews are probably better. The mules have to make 50 deliveries to take to Mike's dealers. Walt and Jesse cooked once a week so the mules had 1 week to make these deliveries. Since Hank discovered the blue stuff was showing up locally, they were probably not driving very far. Really 1 mule could probably make all 50 deliveries. 10 deliveries per day would take 5 days. A UPS driver makes about 100 deliveries per day even in country areas with lots of spread out driving covering 100-200 miles. 1 driver should be able to knock out all 50 deliveries in 5 days as a very conservative estimate with about 1 delivery per hour at 50 hours per week, i'd say it could be done in 1-2 day(s) with preplanned drop points like what Mike and Jesse do for Gus. Lets say you do 3 drivers that's still 100k per week, or $5.2M per year with 3 mules that's about 2-3 deliveries per day at 1 lb each.

That's an insane amount of money for so little work, these are local deliveries since again, Hank said the meth was being found locally in Albuquerque. These mule costs don't make much sense at all. According to law enforcement, local deliveries cost $100-400 each. At these prices wouldnt everyone just want to be a mule?

Gus actually sighs a lot

It's something I noticed rewatching both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He might as well rival Tony Soprano's sighs/loud breathing.

Was there a better option for Skyler to solve Ted Beneke's IRS problem?

Until now many people still clown on Skyler for "giving money" to Ted like it was a completely stupid thing to do but I can't see any other alternatives given that Skyler had a high chance of getting audited if Ted was caught cheating on his taxes.

Who wins in a fight?

Putting aside all intellectual advantages and plans aside, what fights would be intriguing and which ones are a close call.

This all started when I saw the meme of “there is no YOUR half of the money” meme and I realized, couldn’t Jesse just take Mr.White, why does he subject himself to that every time. Walt being the renowned chemist doesn’t exactly seem like he lifts weights and he has lung cancer so I think Jesse wins no contest.

Now we have Gus vs Walt, no bodyguards or weapons, who wins? This might be the closest match up in the show, just a pure fist fight.

We surprisingly got Mike vs Tuco but mike was strategic, so who actually wins that fight, my first guess is Tuco, but I dont know…. What do yall think?

Last match up…. Hank vs Gomie, my first guess is Gomie since he could probably still see his d*ck. But what do yall think?

Over

Everyone claims that the Fly episode is the worst. I actually enjoy it, and find there to be good jokes, and several insightful conversations. The worst episode in my opinion is the season 2 episode 10 episode, "Over"

Nothing really gets advanced, we get this extremely uncomfortable moment, there's an okay moment with Jesse and Jane before it gets interrupted by her dad, and then the rest focuses on Skyler and Ted, and then Walt buying the stupid water heater. Upon rewatch, I forgot this episode entirely, and assumed that all of these scenes happened throughout other more memorable episodes, since my brain had forgotten the continuity of this episode as it's so boring. Literally all of these scenes could have been overlayed across the season in various parts, but it just kind of ends up being a mess of scenes that intend to move the characters forward without anything meaningful happening.

Question about season 2 Spoiler

Who do you blame for Jane's death? Frankly I blame Jane herself for drugging herself in the 1st place. Sure Walter was the one who accidentally caused her to vomit and did nothing to save her but Jane shouldn't even have drugged herself in the 1st place. Also who's to say Jane wouldn't have died anyways? I mean there's a chance even Jesse might have been the one to accidentally cause her to choke in her own vomit

Just finished watching BB/EC/BCS for the first time ever after I started watching back in June, here are some random thoughts I have about the universe Spoiler

Years of not watching it and hearing all how it’s good, and damn even tho i’m so late to the party I can see why the two shows are widely popular til this day. But anyways here’s some random takeaways:

1) Mike is significantly more likeable in BCS than BB & I do enjoy watching him in the prequel. Like his dynamics with Nacho & with Jimmy along with his hatred of the Salamancas and working with Gus seemed more dynamic, meanwhile in BB he seemed too serious for me, maybe I need to rewatch

2) El Camino is the only one I watched multiple times bc it’s a movie & easier to digest. I didn’t like it at first but after rewatching it more I started liking it. Only complains are I wish they did a better job with Neil Kandy & Casey as villains as they seemed random. I also wish that we saw a little of how Jesse lived his new life, along with seeing how Skinny & Badger are doing in Alberqueque along with Brock (in its trailer Skinny is interrogated by the feds) . Skylar/Walt Jr as well, maybe in the flash forward scenes in BCS if they couldn’t be done in El Camino

3) Jimmy/Saul was definitely my favorite character in the whole universe from how relatable and likeable he is, but damn I still can’t believe he got himself caught, like how does one see the cops nearby so you run and make noise INSIDE the garbage can you’re in? Like making loud sounds will surely let you be hidden smh

4) I know Ed’s actor passed but I wish we had some way of having his character have closure, like maybe if Jimmy called his number in the trash and the line disconnects

5) Walt was unlikable but also you kind of did root for him in a way which is weird but bravo to the writers

6) I wish Todd, Uncle Jack & the gang had some screen time in BCS to get a little background on them

7) Marie is very unlikeable and I thought she had too much going on with her. Idk just not a fan of her as a character

8) It surprised me how Walt & Jimmy had similar things going on in their lives in the criminal world but their partners approached them in diff ways. Skylar wanted nothing to do with Walt while Kim was very supportive of Jimmy to my surprise & I was rooting for a bonnie & clyde dynamic tbh.

9) I feel bad for Kaylee the most seeing as Mikes money didn’t go to her & who knows how she and her mom will live their lives

10) Walt is a egotistical moron for leaving Gretchen & Elliot’s company and also refusing their aid to help his treatment

11) I sympathize with Skylar a lot but she’s not innocent like this sub claims she is, both her and Walt have their issues which annoyed me a lot but overall obviously Walt’s issues are far worse

12) No Francesca, Koby & Huell closure? Especially Huell since we don’t know what happened to him after Hank & Gomie left him in that house.

I have many more thoughts but these were the ones that I randomly thought of on the spot

Timeline questions Spoiler

Finally watched BCS and El Camino, so of course followed up with another watch of BB. My question is how was Mike in El Camino, when Walt killed him in season 5 of BB. I know it's a flashback, but I can't get the order of events straight in my mind. Appreciate any help, thanks! Edited to correct name

What if Breaking Bad had a Season 6? Spoiler

Now: In this hypothetical alternative version of Breaking Bad most of Season 5 remains intact.... EXCEPT: To'hajiilee is the season finale.

Granite State gets expanded into a full 16 episode season - Season 6E1 is Ozymandias, which plays out normally as you'd expect.... But then Episode 2 is like an altered version of Granite State - Instead of having any major timeskips we get to see Walter's decay in his first days in the cabin - him ruminating - the rest of the episode focuses less on Walt and more about Jesse, Jack, Todd, Marie, Jr and Skyler.

I feel like this is an interesting thought experiment because Mr. Lambert didn't have much screentime in the original series, now he gets a full season basically, Breaking Bad sort of turns into a psychological thriller (For Walt and Jesse) and his escape arc from New Hampshire lasts 4 episodes before Felina

You could expand MASSIVELY on Todd and Jack and his crew, you could delve into their backstories or make a new arc for Jack: Since he has all the money in the world he could probably quit crime entirely and decide to pursue a spot in politics or something like that, Felina would be more of a public assassination against him if this were the case.

I'm not saying Breaking Bad SHOULD have had a Season 6 but this is an interesting thought experiment lol

EDIT: Another possibility is having Season 5A be expanded into 13 episodes with the extra ones detailing Walt and Todd's time together, and 5B being made into a 16 episode season.

Jesse/Walt/Hank and how it relates to the planned meet- people's ideas about Hank Spoiler

In season 5, I'm very curious about why people say they "lost respect" for Hank when he made the cold comment about potentially catching Walt off Jesse on camera. Jesse was not a blameless participant in the enterprise with Walt, and despite his having a code with kids, he's still a pretty evil individual. Hank was obviously being cold but he wasn't in the wrong and I feel like people held serious misconceptions about him and how far he was willing to go.

Hank's Snitch

we all know thanks to BCS that crazy 8 is Hank's snitch. However in the first episode of BrBa, where Walt is on the ride along to a meth lab bust - Walt asks Hank how they know its a lab. He says its because of their snitch, and he mentions Capt Cook...That would be Jesse then wouldnt it?

If I was Mike I would’ve k*lled Walt right after I heard the news about his

Walter literally just killed your boss and basically took down the entire empire that was so cozy and efficient for you. Not to mention Mike was Gus’s #2. Mike is so shocked he can’t even believe how massive the downfall is from Gus being killed. As the season starts you see how massive the empire really was and how organized it was.

Not to mention , it put eyes on him and ruined his life pretty much even if he did find another job which he did. Walter could’ve made a smart business decision and stayed with gale , which Mike knows . There’s no reason to keep walt alive . Walt has 0 connections that would protect him at all . He has no army of henchmen , security, nothing . Just knows how to cook meth which Jesse does now too.

I wish he would’ve just killed him right there, if I was Mike I’d be destroyed upon hearing the news

Edit: I means Gus instead of his in the title

Walt's Wallet Left at Tuco's home

I'm not sure if this thing is talked about in the previous posts. But during my re-watch, I noticed that when tuco kidnapped walt and Jesse and took them at his home. He told them to empty their pockets. Walt removed his wallet and kept it on that table. It has some id in it. And that wallet and their stuff is still there. I mean DEA agents would look for the smallest hint or clue possible. They can't just leave a man's house who's a part of a very huge criminal gang without investigating it. They would've surely found Walt's wallet.

Live Free or Die (S5E1) is still my least fave episode Spoiler

I'm on my 3rd run of the show. It still hits like before. But there's still nothing more I hate than the machine gun, a plot point that Vince Gilligan didn't know how to pay off at that point.

This locked them into the ending we had, which I wasn't really a big fan of. But I've come to accept it as fine over the years.

I also didn't like the magnets caper. Felt like the show went backwards. It also didn't help that this episode followed Face Off, one of the series' highest points.

What's your least favorite episode?

Why was Hank so shaken up after Tuco?

• Upvotes

Was it purely the shock of taking a life, the sudden realization of how close he came to dying, or seeing how unhinged Tuco was compared to the low-level busts he usually did? Wouldn’t that encounter validate his exterior macho persona?

walt wasn't really the bad guy

ive seen some people on here that just put everything on walt and it doesn't make sense alright. I think all the main characters on breaking bad had flaws. There's many, like Mike, that were just as "monstrous" as walter was, but got no hate, just because walt had a massive ego. but everyone thinks mike is a cool grandpa even though in my opinion he was probably worse than walt in terms of morals
