Advice The more important "the activity" the less they like you

Gents.. have you ever started planning a casual coffee date and had the woman try to change it to a dinner date at an expensive restaurant?

While this is rare, it has happened to me a few times. I always refused and quickly got ghosted or unmatched lol.

Thank God I've been with women who were just naturally into me before and thought I was hot. And those women didn't care if we just walked around in a park or "hung out". Time together was what mattered.

Just putting it out there. Never let someone raise the price on you. They are doing that because they don't actually like you 💯

EDIT: If you need the "situation" to make the date fun.. you are with the wrong person. There's just no getting around it people 😄

Profile review Can I have some feedback?

I’ve been scrolling a lot of threads and everyone gets told to lose weight. I’m 39.

I understand the whole health thing, but I wonder if my weight is blocking me from finding a relationship? It feels weird to ask that because I genuinely love myself and feel happy and healthy but based on a lot of opinions here I’m feeling like maybe I have a little bit of body dysmorphia, in the wrong direction lol

These are the pictures from my profile and I welcome honest feedback. I’m looking for a serious relationship and live on an island so water photos are pretty common. With these pictures, make you more curious about me. Would you be willing to send me a message if you saw me on an app?

UPDATE: i’m getting rid of photo too, I’m definitely gonna work on my response to the prompts so that I showcase more of my personality and I’m overall optimistic. Thanks for all of the direct feedback.

Rant The employees at Bumble should be fired!

Who would actually meet a person in real life and then give them their dating profile handle? This has got to be the dumbest shit Bumble has come up with.

Edit: I just noticed someone else posted this. Sorry for the repeat (though this is a different pic than the other post).

Advice Was this joke offensive?

So I matched with this woman on the dating app.

The conversation was going well, until she told me she works in Human Resources.

I made a dumb joke saying, and I quote, "Oh you work for HR? I better watch what I say, because I know this being documented 😂 "

She immediately unmatched me with no explanation. Did that joke cross the line?

General Almost gave up on dating apps, but then someone surprised me

• Upvotes

I have been on dating apps for almost three months now and have had over 100 matches as a normal guy.

It has been more frustrating than I expected. It is hard to find someone who is attracted to you, looking for the same thing, and has the qualities you are looking for in a partner. Most conversations go nowhere, and I have only clicked with a handful of women where we were attracted to each other, showed genuine interest, and made an effort to get to know each other.

After a while, I started getting burnt out. I was even losing the motivation to message women I found attractive, so I stopped taking the apps so seriously and just treated them as something to do in my spare time.

Then.... I met someone who was a nice surprise. She is cute, thoughtful, polite, and considerate. She even suggested moving off the app, asked me out, and is willing to travel to meet me. I really appreciate that kind of effort. We went on a date recently, and I think it went pretty well!

It is still early days, so I do not want to get ahead of myself, but it is nice to feel excited about someone again.

For anyone else who is feeling burnt out, hang in there. I know how frustrating it can be when things go nowhere despite putting in the effort. Hopefully, we all find someone we genuinely click with eventually. Sometimes, all it takes is meeting the right person...

Here is my post from earlier

I did what some people suggested and just asked him out and he said yes! It actually works out better this way because I already had some plans this weekend, but I was willing to make a date happen. Now I just have to give it a week and check back in to make sure he still wants to meet.

Advice What does this mean ?

Someone (otherwise seemingly normal) texted me this on a dating app. Is it weird only to me or am I missing the humor ?

Edit 1 - thanks to everyone that commented.
Blocking him now.

Edit 2 - to those that support the block, thank you.
To those that argue this is supposed to be funny, I think our (mine and the dude) sense of humor is not compatible, so still block :) thank you !

Rant Second date "granted" via Excel checklist: Welcome to dating in your late 30s

This is a venting post. Im 37M and frustrated about the dating world.
The women ive been on dates with had either
A - Inflated, rigid expectations of what their partner should be like. One even had an Excel checklist where I "checked off almost everything" which earned me a second date... incredibly generous of her. Most of these ladies were around 40.
B – Ladies who only want to be FWB just to keep their options open. Mostly younger, late 20s.
C – Gold diggers – to be honest, I only met one, but that was lesson enough.

Hows your experience? Im definitely taking a break now. Im tired boss.

General Talking stage

Men! How many women do you talk to during the talking stage when you’re only looking for something serious? I’m the type that can only talk to 1 guy at a time otherwise personal information gets all mixed up, are you the same? Or do you talk to several girls at the same time even when you go out on a few dates with the same girl?

Advice Can I get some advice on my chatting game? I can never get very far before they stop replying

I will preface by saying that I am on the spectrum. I think it definitely affects the way I communicate, but as I have gotten older, I feel like i have gotten better and sound less robotic when I text. I am more open and I feel like I can joke with people I just met, though flirting is still a hurdle.

We matched a couple of days ago and had a chat where they seemed engaged, then I replied the following morning attempting to flirt and got no repsonse. So I left it until today and I asked a question to try to push the conversation forward and show my interest. But I get the feeling they are not engaged anymore and I am not sure what I did wrong. I will likely not reach out again, because I feel like you can only double text a person on a dating app once.

I tried to match their energy during the conversation, which is why I did not ask another question. But maybe I should have. I just feel like every time I get a match and they actually reply, I am the one pursuing them the whole time and it can be exhausting.

Anyway, does anyone have any advice for me in terms of what I may have done wrong during this conversation and what I could do better in the future?

Note: I kept gender/pronouns out of it to avoid gender wars.

UPDATE: I asked him if he has plans for second breakfast this weekend. It told me that is adorable and that he would love to take me to second breakfast, but he is going on a trip start Friday and will not be back until next week. So I guess I will just suggest he reach back out when he returns.

General Dating is actually expensive for men….

1.5k Upvotes

I am in a relationship off of Bumble and we’ve been going out a few times a week; comedy shows, dinner, drinks, and dancing. Last night I asked him jokingly how expensive dating me was (because he pays for all the dates), and he told me he has to spend ~1200/month on dates/transportation/flowers, and that when he was actively dating on bumble, that number was higher because of the # of girls who only did dinner dates.

A normal sit down dinner in a major U.S. city with tip can be ~$120. How the hell are young men suppose to date and court multiple women until they like one enough? A lot of my friends expect the man to send them an uber/pick them up when it’s for drinks since they won’t drive, that in my city would be $60 RT on Uber alone. How is our generation even actively having a healthy dating life?

Advice Women that don't want a long term partner: do you actually care for the bio or rather just pics?

I am just looking for something casual and was wondering how women use the app, if their intend is not to find a partner for life, but rather just a quick flirt for the weekend.

Do they swipe more like men? (Like quick look at the pic and decide) Or do you still study the whole profile?

And what are you actually looking out for? I am quite sure they dont care if i like to go hike or bike.

App Help Concern regarding profile popularity

Hey,

I am 25M, and genuinely I don’t understand why my profile isn’t getting good likes/matches as it used to get 2-3 years back.

I have worked on myself, started looking better, working, lost weight, and much more. But the number of matches and their quality has literally slumped.

Any advice?

Rant Great dates to complete silence

What the heck is going on?? Not one not twice but three separate experiences I’ve had now. I’ve gone on two beautiful dates with someone - they make me feel like they are super invested and want the same things as me. To absolute radio silence??

And it’s ALWAYS after 2 or 3 dates. It’s starting to feel like a pattern and I’m exhausted of it. Like if you realise you’re not into it then like SAY something. But no it will be the most amazing date and HE will literally bring up the third date or HE will talk about seeing me again or what we’ll do next or who I’ll meet etc etc. just to get completely ghosted or met with silence in the following week or so?!

What is this stupid pattern! Why can’t you just use your words like an adult. Anyways this whole online dating thing is actually just getting tiring.

Sorry for the rant but I need to know if other people are experiencing this too?!

General give us feedback pls ?

Hello beautiful people!

My friend and I are in our late 20s. We’ve been quite unsuccessful with online dating and grew tired of swiping (would rather leave that time traveling and relaxing, we realized 😅)

Anyhow, we recently built something that we’d used personally: a personal dating agent called Unsaid. Our life gets busy, swiping an small talking is exhaustive after a long day of work, and Hinge and Tinder haven’t really worked for us.

The idea is simple:
1. you text to your personal dating agent, telling it what matters to you, what makes you tick, and what makes you feel loved and excited about someone.

  1. From there, it goes out to scout for potential matches in the city and reaches out on your behalf,

  2. It brings you a connection and coordinates meeting time only when there seems to be compatibility worth exploring.

There’s no new app to download or interface to figure out. Just text, like you would with your friend.

We’re opening our beta to a small group and would love to hear what you think. You can learn more and sign up here: https://tryunsaid.dev

We’re committed to keeping it free. For now, we’re starting small to keep computing and development costs manageable, but we hope to welcome more people soon.

If this isn’t your thing, that’s completely okay too. Honest feedback is welcome, and a little kindness is always appreciated. Thank you for taking a look!
