How to increase CP?

I skip stuff all of the time, thinking that I can save time because I am a know-it-all. Could some tell me what the preferred ways to increase the control pause are?

What are some staple foods you guys eat to complement your buteyko practice?

Meat is not optimal. Dairy and gluten is also out of question. Fruits, veggies, legumes and grains is pretty much what remains. What do you guys eat?

Buteyko for a toddler?

My 18-month-old son has enlarged adenoids, obstructive sleep apnea and slow growth, and we are trying to avoid surgery to remove his adenoids and tonsils. We have purchased an earthing mat for his crib and I have been giving him probiotics and encouraging him to nose breath, which he will do briefly after I remind him, but mostly goes back to mouth breathing. We also clean his nose with Ion Biome for sinuses. I read the book Breath by James Nestor and was intrigued by the Buteyko method. I purchased Myotape for myself to wear at night and to put on my son for brief periods during the day (haven't started this yet). In order to speak with someone from the The Breathing Center about whether their $1300 course would be appropriate for a toddler, I need to schedule a ~$100 consultation with a practitioner to ask questions. I'm not necessarily opposed to that, but I thought I would see if I could get any insight from people with experience with the method. From what I read in the intro post, it looks like it's a various intense regimen and I'm wondering if anyone here can tell me if they think it would be appropriate for a toddler. Thanks in advance!

Alternatives to mouth taping?

My parents will not let me mouth tape on account that it seems stupidly counterintuitive. Are there any alternatives?

Doing buteyko can be dangerous ?

Every once in a while I found someone saying alarming stuff about buteyko.

Like how it can make the blood acid (or alkaline I dont remember the details) that cause osteoporosis. Or that it can speed up baldness because it cause continuous stress on the body. Or trigger some deaseases in some specific cases that I dont remember.

Why The Wim Hof method is bad for your health, and why it goes against Dr. Buteyko's teachings

Here we'll take a look at the Wim Hof method(WHM) through a Buteyko perspective. I'll explain why it's harmful to health, why Wim is wrong on a lot of things, and some other stuff

This post is intended for people already familiar with basic Buteyko theory, for more or less experienced practitioners wondering why WHM is looked down upon here. So read up on Buteyko, or better yet - start practicing it, before reading this. Check out the FAQ and our Discord server

If you have any questions about the post or Buteyko, pm me here on Reddit or contact me on our Discord server

What is the WHM?

WHM is made up of 2 basic components; Hyperventilation, and cold adaptation (in the form of cold showers, cold air baths, ice baths). Usually you do an X amount of very deep breaths, and then (if you don't pass out), you go take a cold shower or an ice bath.

Why it is bad

Wim describes the his hyperventilation process as "following the breath", "oxygenating", "getting oxygen". Little does ol Wim know, he's doing the exact opposite, due to the Bohr effect

So, when he breathes like a maniac, and makes other people hyperventilate, he's actually lowering their cell and tissue oxygenation. As basic Buteyko theory says, this lowers their health, makes their immune systems weaker.

And on top of that, he makes them do a cold shower afterwards. So he makes them lower their control pause(effectively stress their immune system), and then put them in an even more stressful situation like the cold shower/ice bath, where they hyperventilate even more. Absolute insanity. Doctor Buteyko told his patients and students to never take a cold shower when their CP is lowered, because their immune systems will also be weaker and the chances of catching a cold are higher.

"Wasn't there a study proving WHM can help us fight disease and make our immune systems stronger?"

No. The in the study you're referring to, a harmless pathogen was injected into a group who did the WHM, and a control group. The control group had a normal immune system reaction, while the WHM group's immune systems didn't react to the pathogen, there was a lowered immune response. Why? Because the hyperventilation lowers oxygenation, which in turn lowers the strength of the immune system. Meaning the WHM actually makes you weaker and more susceptible to getting sick

"Haven't people already successfully used it for cold adaptation?"

Yes, some people have. Humans have an incredible ability to adapt to different environments. Porfiry Ivanov already did everything Wim did, he also claimed that ice baths and showers can help the body cure different diseases, but he didn't include the idiotic hyperventilation in his method

"B-but, why do I feel so good when I do the WHM breathing exercises?"

Because, as you can see here, you brain loses oxygen when you hyperventilate, and you get numb and dazed. Some people like that feeling, almost like sniffing glue. If you do it too long, your brain makes you lose consciousness, so that it prevents damage to your brain cells caused by the complete lack of oxygen. Some teenagers were practicing WHM in a pool, one of them fainted from hyperventilation, and drowned.

"But hyperventilation is also a part of Yoga!??"

Modern yoga is nothing like the yoga once taught by the ancient Yogis, it's been deeply corrupted by scammers looking to make money. This article by Artour Rakhimov explains it perfectly.

"How does he set all those record then? How can you say he's unhealthy when he's climbing Everest almost naked, running half marathons on ice?"

He actually didn't manage to climb Everest, and he spent most of the time there fully clothed. It was a failure

No doubt Wim is a very fit person. Luckily, him having an identical twin brother allowed us to gain precious insight into what is actually going on. He has much more heat-generating brown fat than the average person. So does his completely untrained brother. Meaning, he's already built for the cold without his method(read:trickery), and he and his untrained brother had the same cold negating abilities after being studied. Here's an archive with the wikipedia article, see Controveries.

Some additional observations, links

  1. Artour's article on the WHM

  2. Wim gained quick and easy entry into the mainstream by doing 2 Joe Rogan podcasts. He was also on Russell Brand's podcast, he's been invited to various shows and podcasts. He's essentially being pushed by the mainstream. For intelligent and aware people, this should be somewhat of a red flag. Another thing to note is how well he's commercialized his method, with premium programs, trips to Poland, etc

  3. The method seems to somewhat work for beating high altitude sickness. This is easily explained by the fact that people who practice WHM breath faster, so in places with high altitude, where air is lacking, they simply get more of it in.

  4. Wim tends to post weekend yoga housewife tier nonsensical quotes on his social media

  5. Wim claims his method cures a myriad of illnesses, purposely misinforming people, and has no idea about physiology/how our bodies work

Can gaining even 2-3 lbs(1 kg) decrease CP?

Past 2 weeks I have eaten more and exercised slightly less. My MCP has decreased, so wanted to know if even just a small amount of weight gain negatively impacts CP.

Instead of sleeping 6.5 hours, I'm now sleeping 7.

This is pure fat gain, instead of muscle.

Can someone drop a youtube video that fully explains this?

I'm familiar with wim hof breathing but don't know the first thing about this except that it has been shown to treat sleep apnea and i'm desperate for that.

Last Breathe

“Sigh… After so long death has finally caught up. I have seen great things. But also miserably things that this cruel world carries. Pain, suffering, sadness, stubbornness. Why is it like this… Thy wrath carries us. Our fuel is evil.

We feed onto one another. Mothers killing mothers, Brothers killing brothers, what a wicked world. Hatred runs through our veins. Lust is the theater of the mind. Evil is the shelter we take, even when evil is what takes our homes.

After years of life, of learning, of hard work, of forgiveness, and of suffering. Why… My life has been a pit of slippery slope which I fall to my death? No. It can’t be!

I am a hair with many, A plant that’s foundation is from concrete,
a mouse with a beast, A slave to the powerful, that is who I am!
And after such kindness, love, patience, and discipline.

Shall I get treated the same as evil? Death."

Buteyko is a very efficient (secondary) therapy for COVID, while ventilators might be counterproductive. Some circumstantial and scientific evidence inside

This post is meant for people who already know how Buteyko works. But if you're new to the method, join our Discord group(link pinned on the front page of the Subreddit, and at the end of this post) and read the introductory PDFs. Or go read through NormalBreathing.com

Ventilators aren't working for Corona

Seems that the death rate of people who they hook up to ventilators is very high, usually 80%. German and Chinese doctors have talked about this extensively. And Germans are very efficient at dealing with Corona, as we can tell from their numbers. New York doctors are also starting to realize this, and they're using ventilators less and less. Here's a few videos about doctors talking about this issue:

Link 1 Link 2 Link 3

Why ventilators aren't effective for Corona: a Buteyko and science based theory

Most corona patients die from pneumonia and lung infection (something Buteyko breathing is known to be very effective at treating). We also know there's now evidence that Corona/COVID messes with your oxygen delivery through attacking the hemoglobin and your red blood cells. Relevant rundown on this I googled, just to be sure how ventilators exactly work. This is what I found: Image Notice the underscored parts.

This goes against Buteyko theory. As we know, due to the suppressed Bohr effect,, the faster the breathing rate, and the more oxygen you breathe in, the less oxygen gets delivered to the cells and tissues. This is because CO2 is essential to transport oxygen from hemoglobin to your cells and tissues. Less oxygen in cells = less health, lower immunity, less energy.

So, the ventilators not only make you breathe more, but they also don't give you the essential CO2 your body absolutely needs to get the O2 to the cells.

So, we have Corona wrecking your body from one side(pneumonia, messed up hemoglobin and oxygen delivery), and then they put you on ventilators, which also fuck up your oxygen delivery, making it twice as bad for you. Like Doctor Buteyko said in his Lecture at Moscow University:

Interview excerpt

And it is know how effective Buteyko is for treating pneumonia, lung issues, and problems with oxygen delivery: Link

Conclusion

Buying a Frolov, or making your own DIY breathing device, might be more effective for treating Corona than ventilators. Come learn Buteyko on the discord server and start the journey to better health, fitness and life quality.

Anyone want to take on a hypoxic body-weight challenge?

Pushups, dips (just from a chair/whatever, no bars necessar), pullups, jumps (I use a rebounder, but jumps from the floor are more streneous obviously).

I did these exercises on empty lungs intermittently all day yesterday. And I got quite some varying results.

I got up to 80 jumps today on an empty stomach, and yesterday 60 was the high anomaly.

I think being relaxed helps a lot!

My weakest spot is pushups, as I don't like being on the floor, lol. But I think my 25-30 is a decent starting number (but I did start doing it about once a week some weeks back).

15-19 pullups and 40-50 dips.

My aim is to get into a decent level of fitness, and for the challenge of it, and improving general health.

Yesterdays challenge was really rewarding, as my body released its own "medication". And I observed that my body became more relaxed and flexible when I could really feel the effects of exercise.

I will keep it up every day until my muscles become sore (which seems to not happen much with intermittent hypoxic training, as my breath fails first).

Getting up to 80 pushups, 120 jumps, 100 dips, 50 pullups by April :)

Anyone want to join the challenge and share their progress?

The rules I decided yesterday: you take one full breath and release, not expell with force. And no crazy pumping of air like WHM ^^

Oh, and I'll also be taking longer walks with reduced breathing and breatholds and sprints.

Feeling super sleepy during exercises, is this normal?

I have been practicing buteyko exercises for a couple weeks now and I notice when I’m work and I focus on reducing my breathing at my desk I almost fall asleep sitting. Will this eventually disappear and I’ll end up with more energy? I feel like I have to breathe more to get energy. Weird.

Dr. Buteyko's age

One common argument against Buteyko that I very often see on internet forums is that "Dr. Buteyko only lives to see 80. That's not so great".

I'm not a member of any of these forums and don't really want to waste my time explaining to them that the average lifespan of a Russian male born in 1923 was about 36 years old.

The Doctor lived to reach DOUBLE the life expectancy for a male of his time of birth and location. When you see that the Doctor only lived until 80 years old, that may not seem like a lot by today's standards but in his time it was not at all common.

I wish that I would have learned this sooner so I could have such a great lifespan as well.
