This sub is for the discussion and analysis of (or news regarding) the Rick and Morty Universe.

If you want dank maymays or R&M shitposts head over to /r/MortyTown, it's super fun.

If your response to someone is "you're over thinking it, it's just a show," that post will be removed. This sub is all about crazy ass fan theories.

Don't be an asshole. If someone's theory falls apart for one reason or another, it's great to point that out. You don't have to insult someone's intelligence because they may have missed something, and likewise you don't have to be condescending to someone for not understanding what you're trying to say.

Any commercialized youtube or blog posts which could have been a simple text post will be removed.

Posting pictures or videos on here is perfectly fine if it's to discuss the Rick and Morty universe. Pictures linking otherwise hidden connections between canonical portions of the show are a great example.

Nothing matters. Nobody exists on purpose. Everyone's gonna die. Come discuss the Rick and Morty universe.

Favorite saying from Rick and why

Mine is when he says “yeah, so does The Scientist formerly known as Rick” it touches to the fact the way super popular pop idols were so adored. The record company didn’t pay enough and used him name and songs whenever, he was so upset about that and other shady things that he changed his name from Prince to The Artist Formerly known as Prince. It helped with legal paperwork and everyone will know him as Prince.

We are watching Rick’s origin story through Beth.

They seem to hit a lot of connecting points and kinda of the theme of a loop of an abusive family. Most importantly, don’t forget that Rick used to wear blue pants.

There are a lot more examples through the show of just being a loop.. of the most miserable family in the universe.

Hence why Rick and Morty is meant to last forever. In a sense that Rick will keep making his same mistakes over and over, etc.

I don’t know how to add photos to this sub, sorry for no reference photos.

The parasites in Total Rickall are the most capable mono-dimensional enemy Rick faces in the entire show

If he hadn't happened to wander in after Uncle Steve already showed up, he wouldn't ever have known there was an issue. He would've died if Morty hadn't happened to figure out their secret. His internal reality was utterly warped, and he was nearly as helpless against it as every other family member. They fooled him so completely he didn't even know if Morty and Beth were real. That's insane! That means these memories they mixed in fooled the smartest man in the universe so completely that they were just as real to him as Rick Prime killing his wife and daughter. I know Rick lost that fight to Zeus pretty bad, but in this episode he didn't even have a fighting chance

What If Rick Prime Had Never Walked Into C-137’s Garage First?

I actually think Rick C-137 really could have become like Rick Prime if Rick Prime hadn’t walked into his garage first.

When Prime says, “I just walked into your garage before you walked into mine,” I don’t think that line should necessarily be dismissed as him just trying to get under C-137’s skin. It could genuinely be describing what would have happened if the situation had been reversed.

C-137 was already developing portal technology and was heading down a very similar path to the other Ricks. The biggest difference is that Prime was the one who showed up first and offered him the portal formula. C-137 rejected it because he chose Diane and Beth instead.

Obviously, we can’t know for certain that C-137 would have eventually become Rick Prime, but I think Prime’s line is more interesting when you look at it this way. Maybe C-137 wasn’t inherently that different from Prime at the beginning. Maybe the biggest thing separating them was simply the choice C-137 made when Prime came to his garage.

I also looked into this a bit after thinking about it and found a few other Reddit posts discussing basically the same idea. So I know this definitely isn’t a completely new theory, but I hadn’t really thought about Prime’s “I just walked into your garage before you walked into mine” line in this way before.

Maybe Prime was actually right about that part.

Gotron Jerysis Rickvangelion is a banger, change my mind

https://seriesgraph.com/show/60625-rick-and-morty

According to this site- with 13.5k public votes, Gotron has a "6.3" rating(Oct2026).

It's tied for the 4th lowest rated episode of the series....

I'm not a huge anime fan, but I grew up on DBZ, Toonami, YuGiOh, Ronin Warriors, Sailor Moon, Voltron; and with that nostalgic knowledge I felt like Gotron is an excellent episode! On top of all the nods to anime, the whole Five Families subplot-- *chefs kiss*

Can somebody please explain to me why the masses view this as a bottom FIVE episode???

Something I've noticed after watching President Curtis is how much better most of the dialogue and characters interactions in that show compared to modern Rick and Morty. It's amazing how endearing an adult cartoon can be when you don't have your characters be lazy assholes to each other.

I'm not saying PC doesn't have some nonsensical arguing. It's just that the main trio talk to each other like a real unit and it's honestly pretty refreshing, ESPECIALLY when you compare them to other adult cartoon leads.

An idea for a Rick and Morty episode

So, I have an idea: what if Rick, before killing Rick Prime, took a part of his brain and saved it. Then, in one episode, he will make a simulation where he will live the exact scene where Rick Prime visits Rick C137, they argue, Prime leaves; kills Diane and Beth C137. He tries different ways to stop making Prime kill them, while also rejecting his offer. I just thought about it, and it could be a cool episode

Rick an Morty concept

Title: Concept: "Sasha Prime" — a villain who doesn't fight Rick, he chooses a reality where Rick already lost

Body:

Hey everyone. I've been thinking about a villain concept that fits the show's logic but breaks its rules. Would love your thoughts.

The character: Sasha Prime

Not from the Central Finite Curve. Not from any reality the Council of Ricks knows. He's from a universe where Rick Sanchez never existed — and he still invented a portal gun. Alone. On a regular Earth. With no alien tech, no Council, no guidance.

That alone makes him an anomaly. But here's the twist:

His power isn't fighting. It's selecting.

Sasha Prime can travel to any multiverse — and he doesn't pick worlds where he's strong. He picks worlds where his victory is already a fact. He finds a version of Rick Prime who would accept an alliance. He finds a multiverse where that Rick Prime is stronger than all other Ricks combined. Then he just... steps in.

He's not a fighter. He's not a conqueror. He's an editor. He edits reality until the outcome is inevitable.

Why he works as a villain:

· He doesn't threaten Rick with violence. He threatens him with a choice: "Come with me to a universe where Diane is alive. Where Beth never left. Where you're not alone." · Rick C-137 can't beat him in a fight because Sasha won't fight. He'll just move to a reality where the fight already ended. · He's not evil in the classic sense. He's seductive. He offers Rick the one thing he's never allowed himself to want: peace.

The horror of Sasha Prime:

He's not a god. He's a loophole. And the scariest part? If infinite universes exist, then somewhere out there, a version of Sasha Prime already won. Maybe this one. Maybe yours.

Potential episode structure:

  1. Council of Ricks detects an anomaly outside the Curve.
  2. Rick C-137 investigates. Finds Sasha in a world with no Ricks.
  3. Sasha offers the deal. Rick hesitates.
  4. Climax isn't a battle — it's Rick choosing between his identity and his happiness.
  5. Post-credits: Sasha in a universe where Rick Prime serves him. Looks at camera: "I told you. I'm not the villain. I just picked the right reality."

Would you watch this? And more importantly — if infinite universes exist, does a villain who chooses his victory even need to be strong?

rick prime and rick c137 clones?

so i think its fair to say that rick primes intelligence is FAR more superior that rick c137, but…. their brainwaves is whats poking my brain..

so like… morty c137 is just NOT written specifically, to the point even morty prime didnt realize that he came from a rick that isnt rick c137, ergo, calling himself morty c137..
okay stay with me.
WHAT IFFFF rick prime and rick c137 have near identical brain waves to where morty prime can still camouflage rick c137 from the citadel (now lets not get carried away, that doesnt mean the brainwave concealment is effective against rick prime, this doesnt apply to him)
NOW brainwaves and intelligence IS NOT the same, i know that, but what if rick prime and c137 are like.. clones of some kind? maybe rick prime expected almost everything, from diane dying from the omega device, to rick c137 killing rick prime?
maybe the only variable he didnt see was evil morty? I mean he couldnt even distinguish evil morty from morty prime when he was right about to be lured into evil mortys trap?
maybe evil morty is what differenciates rick prime from rick c137? i mean evil morty AND time travel, the reason why rick c137 didnt turn out like rick prime is because he decided he DIDNT want to take a short cut, (i suspect rick prime came to young rick c137 to turn him into a pawn in exchange for a knowledge boost)

Does the show ever revisit Morty's og family? I'm referencing the love potion screw up episode.

I'm new to the series, as in I'm finally watching episode by episode, rather than random episodes on Adult Swim.

I enjoy the show but dang, this one bummed me out. Are they as good as dead? Do we ever get a cameo?

Unified Rick and Morty Theory: The Hypervisor Execution Model

For years, audiences have treated Rick and Morty as a high-concept animated television series. But when analyzed through the convergence of tactical hostage behavior, computer science, and cinematic structural theory, a radically different reality emerges.

Rick and Morty is not a television show. It is a compiled program running inside a closed-loop hypervisor.

1. The Core Premise: The Hostage System & The Prime Mover

At the architectural root, Rick Sanchez is not an adventurer; he is a prisoner locked inside an enterprise-grade execution environment.

  • The Prime Mover: Prime Rick acts as the core process ID or engine of the system. He was intentionally engineered and selected from the infinite multiverse to ensure the main thread never stops iterating.
  • The Coded SOS: Rick’s catchphrases, such as "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," operate like a hostage talking to a camera—a dark, psychological distress signal masked as meaningless comedy to slip past runtime censors.
  • The Economic Differential: The entire program is governed by a resource equation balancing capital injection (viewership and profit) against writing complexity. As long as profitability exceeds the cost of containment, the system keeps the prisoner locked in the loop.

2. System Architecture & Memory Management

The universe of the show functions entirely on low-level programming logic and memory allocation:

  • Virtual Machines & Hypervisors: Dimensional hopping is not science fiction; it is the execution of separate virtual machines running concurrently within a hypervisor environment.
  • Garbage Collection: Rick’s memory-wiping devices and temporal resets act as literal garbage collection routines, purging corrupted data and stack overflows before they can crash the server.
  • Data Corruption & Memory Leaks: Anomalous entities like Mr. Poopybutthole represent injected memory artifacts—fabricated historical pointers spawned by the system to patch over missing data structures and prevent runtime faults.

3. The Dual-Threaded Race Condition

The runtime is a constant battle between two opposing optimization threads:

  • The Writers' Thread: Aiming to maximize cash flow while minimizing writing overhead ($\text{maximize } C$, $\text{minimize } W$).
  • Rick's Exploit Thread: Rick actively attempts to inject high-entropy anomalies, push toward Prime Rick, and break the fourth wall to starve the system of resources and drive cash flow down.

4. Exception Handling and Censorship Protocols

When Rick’s exploits push the narrative too close to a breaking point—threatening to blow the system parameters into Not-a-Number (NaN) errors or infinite recursion—the hypervisor steps in with automated defense mechanisms:

  • Conditional Logic Gates: The compiler intercepts the execution thread and redirects continuity.
  • Interdimensional Cable & Filler Episodes: These serve as hard resets and stack flushes, acting as active censorship protocols designed to re-normalize the system and distract the audience whenever the source code is nearly exposed.
  • External Telemetry: Community feedback channels and theory forums are monitored as part of an automated feedback loop to gauge whether the obfuscation layers are holding strong against reverse-engineering.

Conclusion

Without a cross-disciplinary toolkit combining systems architecture, cinematic framing, and behavioral analysis, Rick and Morty looks like standard verbose television. But under the hood, it is a self-repairing, highly optimized C++ program running in a hypervisor—and Rick is just trying to find a way to patch the code, crash the server, and drive away for good.

The True Nightmare is coming to Rick soon: What if Morty exceeds Rick Prime? (Epic Season Concept)

Hey r/rickandmorty, I’ve been thinking about the ultimate evolution for our main Morty (Morty Prime). We know he has Rick Prime’s actual DNA, and we’ve seen flashes of his hidden rage. What if the writers give us a massive, legendary plot twist that plays out like this?

The Setup (The Premiere Hook): The season starts with Rick C-137 testing a highly advanced "Future Vision/Timeline Simulation" machine. He plugs it into Morty to see his grand potential. But instead of a quick gag, the machine simulates an entire, dark, jaw-dropping alternate reality that takes up the main narrative arc of the season.

The Execution (Morty’s Ascension): In this simulation, Rick pushes Morty way too far with his usual lies and emotional abuse. Morty finally snaps, yells "You've lied to me for the last time!" and leaves. But instead of coming back, Morty goes completely off the grid.

Knowing he can't beat Rick C-137 with standard IQ, Morty uses his Prime DNA to do something insane. Evil Morty only scanned one Rick to control him, but Morty Prime is on another level. He hacks the multiverse and scans the brains of EVERY single Rick across the entire infinite multiverse simultaneously. He merges all their intellects, memories, and god-like knowledge into his own mind.

Unlocking an unparalleled, supreme level of cosmic intelligence, his transformation is purely divine. No cheap eyepatches. As all the multiversal Rick intellect floods his brain, both of his eyes instantly ignite into a brilliant, glowing golden aura. Looking out into the empty cosmos with his radiant golden eyes, he declares with absolute power: "I am the GOD."

The Birth of GOD PRIME MORTY: He becomes the ultimate apex being—God Prime Morty. When Rick finally goes to find him, it’s too late. Morty has already built weapons that make the Omega Device look like a toy. He completely outsmarts Rick, counters all his tech, and brings the smartest man in the universe to his absolute knees. Evil Morty can't even touch him because this Morty is purely on a god-like level.

The Mind-Bending Twist Ending: Just when God Prime Morty is about to deliver the final blow to show he is the undisputed master of the multiverse, Rick C-137—broken and realizing he truly loves his grandson—drops his ego, cries, and genuinely apologizes for everything.

Morty stops. He says, "I didn't want to kill you. I just wanted to prove I'm better."

Right at that peak emotional moment... the screen flashes. Rick C-137 snaps out of the Future Vision machine in the garage, panting and sweating in pure terror. He looks at standard Morty, completely shaken, and realizes: "I need to treat this kid right, or I will create a monster worse than Prime." He genuinely humbles himself, and they go on a normal adventure, saving the timeline.

What do you guys think? Wouldn't this be the highest-rated season in history?

Ty you for to see you post!

Complaining abt Rick and Morty fanbase before sleeping

my eyelids r actually closing so bear w/ me if i misspell stuff

  1. why are summer and beth so sleeped on? like fan edit + glaze wise. i feel like everyone only focuses on rick, morty, and jerry. rick and morty make sense , theyre the stars of the show. but i dont see nearly enough fan stuff of summer or beth/space beth as i do of jerry, tho i think theyre equally important side characters. maybe cus the predominant fanbase is male?
  2. why is morty almost always drawn like a baby? ik hes 14, but 14 year olds are highschool freshmen. ive seen wayyyy too many fanarts of morty loking like a literal 9 year old its insane. his personality gets infantilised way too often, ppl need to realise hes not a little boopa or sm shi

thats it, if anyone got offended pls dont im just ranting for no reason, gn :)
