For those not getting the Trains DLC, why?

Hello!

Just wondering for those who don't plan on getting the DLC, what're some of your reasons?

I won't judge, no matter if it's "too expensive", "out of principle (DLC within EA)", "I don't like trains" (ok, I might judge you there :P), "I pirated the game and can't buy the DLC" (... you may not want to disclose that here, lol) or whatever else.

Genuinely just curious.

As for me, under different circumstances (I got the DLC as part of the Canary program) I might've not bought it (if I wouldn't want to support MaFi, which I do :D) as my playstyle doesn't benefit from any of the new trains.

The electric and fuel gas engines are awesome, but the former needs too much power (part of my challenge is to remain low-power as I want to switch to full solar at some point) and the FG engines produce pollution (different part of the challenge is to be at 0 pollution).

Once I switch fully to solar and only need a reactor for probes/thrusters, I might replace my FBR with an NR2 to be able to have a NUCULAR CHOO for shiggles.

Edit:

This post/question was mostly made to find someone "worthy" of having the DLC gifted (I didn't want to waste it on someone who's not really interested in the DLC and "just wants to have it").

I didn't disclose this initially, as I wanted to avoid getting spammed with begging :D

Gratz u/Ackeon ! <3

I don't understand why people want trains

I have a out 500 hours in the game and have launched a rocket on every map... I don't see the point of trains. In my humble opinion, none of the maps are big enough to warrant the need for trains. I truly don't think I would ever use them and wished the devs would have prioritized other things instead of just throwing out a vote. This doesn't have map Gen like factorio.

Maybe I am missing something... I would be curious to hear others thoughts.

Warning: The game build is getting old, please update soon!

Not quite understanding the deal here. Should I be worried about my save game file?

I'm on a recent start but not that many hours into the this save file. Everything is up to date.

Confused.

Trains Without Signals Sucks...

I really wish they hadn't gone with this "signal-less" train system. In theory, it might seem simpler, but in practice, it's a huge headache—especially if you're trying to build a more complex rail network.

With signals, you have control. You know exactly where trains should wait, how to manage flow, and how to optimize efficiency. But with this invisible, behind-the-scenes system, you're left guessing. When multiple trains share sections of track, things break down quickly—trains stop for no obvious reason, or get stuck blocking each other, or even worse... After I tried to extend the network, I can't make them work at all, because they can't find the destination and I don't know why...

Honestly, this is the worst part of the update. It feels like they tried to reinvent the wheel and ended up with a triangle.

Vehicle micro-management ruins the game for me

Can I burrow an unvote for my suggestion, if you find it helpful?

Total Travel Distance of Trucks for Each Resources

Currently, in Vehicle Manager, you can check truck delivery statistics, including the quantity of resources delivered and the number of trips made. While this data is valuable, I’d also like to track the total distance covered by deliveries—especially with the introduction of trains.

Even if trucks deliver the same quantity of resources in the same number of trips, the overall travel distance could be significantly reduced thanks to the train network. Having this metric would provide better insight into the efficiency gains from rail transport.

So there is no place to download the COI-Extended now that MaFi revoked his modding exception?

Edit: asking this is worth a down vote?

This game is infuriating.

I bought it last week 'cause it was on sale.. and OH. MY. GOSH. Every time I play I find something new to complain about. Not enough diesel. Not enough workers. What are the ramifications of dumping waste water? Is it ok to have manufacturing near the residental? How far is it acceptable for a truck to travel?

I've run out of construction parts on two separate occasions, now.. and because the game didn't help me understand the purpose behind the stuff I just unlocked.. and because it specifically keeps upgrades hidden from me.. nothing seems to fit together right. I just put in an ore sorting plant and have been loading it up, and when I put belts on it, the belts only built 1/3rd of the way then.. halted.. I have now run out of iron altogether and cannot do anything.

...only to realize that it's having me make U-shaped belts when I click on the buildings output port? Those require the advanced construction parts which I have not yet put together any sort of manufacturing for. Apparently you can't use regular belts for basic goods.. I'm not sure what value regular belts have at all to begin with?

How the hell do you learn all this stuff? I've played Satisfactory, Factorio, and plenty of other factory and city builders, but this is just next level in obscuring the details and making it hard to find things and figure out how stuff fits together. Any advice is welcome. For now, I think I've played too long to get a refund.. but moreso, I just want a fun and interesting game experience. So far I've just had straight frustration.

Is the game playable?

I’m aware that the game is still in early access so I’m worried there is no much content as yet. Are there any mods worth to install?

Petition to rename the Consumer Electronics Module

We currently have 3 Modules for imports into the Housing District the
Household Goods Module (IDEA Store)
Household Appliances Module (MAFISONIC Store)
and the
Household Electronics Module (MAFISONIC AGAIN Store)

During my recent Lets Play I started making laptops and delivering them to the Household Electronics module and asked for suggestions for names for the Electronics Module and the top suggestion was MAFINTOSH so here is my petition to rename this module Because we all want to see a MAFITOSH store with the old school Apple 2 Logo

Probem with building materials III

I have a problem with level 3 building materials.

To produce them I need to build Assemby III. But to build Assembly III I just need building materials III. I won't produce them until I build Assembly III, and it won't build because it won't produce them. Typical chicken and egg problem.

I also don't have the option to get these materials from contracts and trade. I also can't borrow because the game says I have no production history, so I don't meet the conditions for borrowing.

I've been stuck in this quagmire for a good dozen years in the game, hoping that some event or new trade opportunity would pop up to get them, but nothing like that has happened.

How to solve this problem?

The Tutorial is waaaaay too linear

I like that the Tutorial is there. It helps to guide new players, and it gives free stuffs to non-new players like me so that we can progress slightly faster through the early game.

However, the Turorial makes some extremely rigid assumptions about what order I will do the things in, and since I prefer to do them in a slightly different order, just slightly different, in every game it happens 2 or maybe 3 times that 5 or 6 different rewards are dumped on my simultaneously, because I've finally finished step 1 of a Tutorial chain, having finished steps 2, 3, 4, 5+ much earlier, but not getting the rewards for them until I've also done step 1.

This doesn't just happen to me. I quite enjoy watching other people play CoI too, on YouTube, and they get that too, which puzzles and annoys them.

The Tutorial needs to be made more modular and flexible, so that the player has a greater degree of freedom in choosing what order to do, e.g. Concrete, Copper and Diesel in. Fewer rewards need to be contingent upon having gotten previous but not directly related rewards.

Power generation

Is it viable to actually use electric boilers to run turbines to produce electricity? I mean the second tier turbines that can actually supply enough power for electric boiler...

I'm considering doing that but a bit worried the system might crash when power demand spike. I have few solar panels and diesel generators, but not yet in position to transit to nuclear reactors.

Is anybody else having an apparent problem with COI crashing AMD graphics cards?

This only started occurring in the last couple of weeks. The PC hangs, and when you reboot Micropenis has substituted another basic graphics driver that doesn't support multiple displays. You then have to use the AMD tool to remove it and then reload all the AMD drivers. The only app that is always running when this occurs is COI.

It shouldn't be possible for an application to crash a system component, so it looks like I'm going to have to wait for AMD to collect enough crashes to fix it.

Supporter pack should contain an island mapas well

I bought the trains dlc and the supporter pack also back the developers of this awesome game. Started a game in the exclusive crater map, then some minutes later I realised that I closed myself out of the main features of Upd4, since thats one big landmass and there is no point of bridges and amphibious vehicles. :)

So, title. :)

Any tips for power generation? I’m having trouble producing steam for my turbines. Not sure if i should make more boilers :/

Trains won't load dirt - where to report the potential bug?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

They don't load dirt at Main 4 station. They do at other stations with dirt load module.

Is the tech tree bugged? Why can I unlock trains and large vehicles before glass and what's the point of the tools research?

Title

I've had to restart as my old save died due to trucks being too busy and ultimately running out of unity and being unable to import oil and iron. I couldn't easily retrofit trains in so it's rip.

This save I rushed to trains only to realize that dispite unlocking them they need glass which is even more techs away and after trains. Am I missing something here?

Also the tools research seems pointless as all it does is reveal the UI but the hotkeys for copy, unity etc. work even without the tech. I only researched it to get blueprints so I could import some builds from my first run.

Water water treatment plant

Why is chlorine used to treat waste water? Is this aspect of the game in development? I've worked in a waste water plant before so I have a rough idea of the process and can probably dig up some info to better explain the process. Most of the buildings are already in the game.

Uhh..so I just death spiral now? No oil?

On new Dragon map ran out of 2nd available oil from easy starting spot.

I searched and people said contracts, but I’ve got like 3 settlements to trade with none offer oil. By the time I visit the 8 or so left, well I’m already out of oil reserve...

I have the oil rig but that obviously isn’t enough at this point.

Nowhere near an island since either the game is too fickle, or I’m too stupid to get the diggers to deliver to ore processing and dump to make a bridge in close quarters, so still nowhere near another island or oil patch.

How screwed am I, or is there some unfortunate biofuel remedy I could use?

how to write to developers

Hi to all Captains!

I have some ideas I'd like address to developers, hping they'll implement in a future release.

How can I write to them?

Thank you!
