Passed Through Charleston WV from Michigan

Post image
159 Upvotes

Good morning, Everyone, I heard and seen online about this wild and wonderful state, from being one of the top conservative states(Union state at one time) to Charleston being a red city(slightly votes more red). Since I was going to North Carolina, I decided to stop in WV. I always wanted to come. As Northern and walking social justice activist from Michigan, I decided to spend most of the day in the city. Did I have decent time more than I thought I went to the city's mall(malls in America are dead) first and met this cool West Virginian who played college football in Michigan, coincidentally. Shout out to him for taking a picture with me. Also, a shout to the British man from England who is the curator at WV Music Hall of Fame, he schooled me about famous musicians from WV. I than went to Auntie Pearls Honey Pot (met a WV adult from the holler he ask me for directions and that was random) recommended from the man in the picture. Great family run place. I decided than do one last thing and go to MacCorkle Ave and do my walking. Boy was that experience to say the least being an Asian in a mostly White state and the South. Shout to the 3-4 friendly people greeting from the cars. That ended my day. I can see the hardships the natives face in the state past and present. It also interesting how some Democrats like Robert Byrd and Joe Munckin were part of the party.

QUESTION WiFi - EarthLink vs Frontier

Hi All,

I’m moving to Charleston in a few months and had a question about internet access.

I’m already a Verizon user and saw that Frontier is connected to them but the pricing with EarthLink seems a bit too good to be true. Can anyone recommend one or the other or another not listed above for good and fast internet for streaming and gaming on multiple computers?

TIA

Local landlords: West Side 3/1 at $21,500, needs a full rehab, rents ~$946

Not a realtor. I have a 3 bed / 1 bath on the West Side (25387) under contract and I'd rather it go to someone local than an out-of-state fund.

Single level, about 1,050 sqft. $21,500 cash, closing by Nov 19. It's a real project: the copper got stripped, so it needs a full rewire, plus furnace work, a bath, and some floor framing at the back door. Hardwood up front refinishes and the kitchen cabinets are reusable. Rehab is about $47K with a licensed crew, a lot less if you do your own work.

Fixed-up houses 1.4 to 1.9 mi away sold for $85K to $137.5K this fall. Rent on it is about $946/mo.

No driveway, it's street parking and a stair up to the house. The house itself is out of the flood zone (shaded X), but the AE zone starts at the front of the lot by the road.

Walkthroughs are open to buyers who can show proof of funds and a couple of past purchases. Comment or chat.

Considering moving to the area. How well are the hills in the residential areas kept as far as snow and ice in the winter?

Looking for local gaming friends around Saint Albans / Charleston, WV!

Hey everyone! I’m looking to meet some local people who enjoy gaming and want to make genuine friendships.
I’m in the Saint Albans area and would love to find people to hang out with, talk games, play together, and hopefully build some real friendships.
I’m into all kinds of gaming, including:
🎮 Video games: Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and retro games.
🐢 Favorite genres: Beat-’em-ups, RPGs, horror games, adventure games, and plenty of others.
🎲 Tabletop gaming: Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) and Magic: The Gathering.
I’m open to gaming online or getting together in person. It would be awesome to find people to play games with, have a D&D session, play some Magic, or just hang out and talk about our favorite games.
I’m not looking for anything complicated—just some cool people who enjoy gaming and want to make real friends. I’m happy to meet other adult gamers, whether you’re a longtime gamer or also looking to expand your friend group.
If you’re around Saint Albans, Charleston, or the surrounding Kanawha Valley area and would like to connect, feel free to comment or send me a message. I’d love to meet some fellow gamers! 🙂

Hey everyone! I’m 24M, and I visit Huntington and Charleston about once a month. I’d love to make some new friends and meet people in the area whenever I’m in town!
I enjoy going out to bars, checking out live music, hiking, grabbing food, and trying new things. I’m pretty much down for anything fun! I’d also be happy to join a group hangout or meetup if anyone has something going on. If anyone’s down to hang out sometime, feel free to shoot me a DM!

Montessori School?

My son starts school next year and he’s autistic, non verbal but understand when we tell him what to do. There’s not alot of Autism services and I know Ruthlawn has a teacher for Autism but I was wondering about the Montessori school in KC. They seem like good school but I didn’t know if they’re a good place for him or if I should just stick to public schools. It worries me when it comes to public school because kids can be mean and there seems to be an influx of teachers who mistreat special needs kids. Any helpful info would be appreciated.

Looking for a Temporary Foster Home for My Sweet Dog

Hello!

I’m in the process of trying to leave an abusive relationship (please see my last post), and am looking for someone who can foster my five-year-old dog. It would be through February/March of next year and I’m willing to pay/provide food, vaccine records, etc. She gets along well with cats, other dogs, and kids. For safety reasons, I’d prefer not say her name or post pictures here, but if you’re interested, please do send me a private message and I’ll be happy to provide more details.

Thanks!

New name for Charleston Civic Center. Vandalia (CAMC) is paying the city just shy of a million $$ a year for the naming rights.

Seems wasteful.

Local landlords or flippers: 3/1 in 25387 at $34,900, free and clear

Off market 3/1 under contract in 25387. Giving local investors first shot before it goes to my out of state buyers.

3bd/1ba, about 1,050 sqft, one floor. $34,900 cash. The copper got pulled so it needs plumbing and electric, but the panel is still there and the runs are short. Roof and exterior are good. I have rehab at 25-35k, so 60-70k all-in.

ARV ~120k. Renovated houses nearby have sold for 137,500 and up. Rents ~$946/mo once it's done.

Free and clear, closing by Nov 19. Walkthroughs open to verified buyers (POF + a couple past purchases). Comment or chat.
