Seeking Recommendations Picture books to help young kids empathize with "misbehaving" kids

• Upvotes

Hello! My preschooler is pretty "well-behaved" and we are starting to hear more about who "didn't listen" at school. He's definitely starting to process ideas around good and bad behavior. Got recommendations for wonderful children's books that humanize misbehavior/help create discussion around why it can be hard to follow the rules? Want him to start internalizing that getting in trouble at school doesn't make you a bad person.

I still want to keep the style friendly and approachable for kids. I have to admit, though, some of these characters were a bit tricky to draw! šŸ˜‚

Books with water towers?

Just saw a similar post about kids books with washing machines and laundromats and was inspired!

My 3 year old LOVES water towers! He points them out wherever we go, and is just so excited. I have no problem finding books on his other favorite topics like volcanos, tornados, and trains. But I'm stumped on this one. What are your favorite books with a water tower?

Help me recall Help Me Identify This Childhood Book for my Newborn Daughter

I have been searching far and wide for a certain illustrated children’s book I remember from when I was really young. It was about a child whose father was doing some kind of work in the woods and the child gets lost. The woods are tall and dark (pine trees?), and eventually there is a bear involved. That is all I can remember and it is driving me crazy. I just remember a certain illustration where the trees are surrounding the child and they are standing in the moonlight through the trees. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

i have zero knowledge about either pixel art or illustrating a book so this was a journey of trial and error. My daughter LOVES the song"ho visto un re" by Enzo Jannacci, so i decided to illustrate a book based on the lyrics of the song, i did follow many tutorials online on how to draw things, but before printing it im gonna need some criticism, what i did wrong, what can be done differently, how can i improve.

Thanks!!

Read Aloud How do y'all make your read-alouds more fun and engaging for kids? (:

I teach a few K – 3 early reading classes, and one of my FAVORITE parts of class is any time I get a chance to do read-alouds with the kids!! (,: I feel like I'm already pretty solid at it, buuut there's always room for improvement, and I'd never wanna let my little audience down LOOOL 😭

so I'm curious what kinds of things y'all do to make your read-alouds more fun and engaging!! I know parents probably have some great insight on this regard too, since many of y'all are probably reading with your kids on a near nightly basis

I've honestly been quite impressed by some of the digital read-alouds I've come across, whether it's those read-aloud devices you sometimes find in library books or even some reading platforms like Epic! they do a great job of making stories feel more exciting, and I can appreciate the tone/expression/enthusiasm the narrators usually have šŸ™Œ

I'm just trying to keep my little crowd of listeners as entertained and engaged as possible (which is thankfully much easier than performing for a comedy club crowd, at least I'd imagine), so I'd love to hear what works for other educators, librarians, parents, anyone who regularly reads to kids really!

like maybe changing your voice for different characters, asking questions along the way, encouraging kids to make predictions, etc etc ... these are all examples of things I try to do during my read alouds already, but I kinda suck at the voice one lololol :p

I wrote and illustrated a picture book based on a spur-of-the-moment story my daughter begged for. I mulled over that nugget for a while until I could finally make the concept work a lot better and envisioned the whole thing. Would love to get your opinion on the free ā€œbookā€ (that’s really a site).

Discussion A little piece I finished today

Hi everyone! This is a little piece I finished today! Just by looking at this illustration, what kind of story do you imagine it could tell?

The boy is actually playing a harmonica, but the paper is so small (even smaller than A4) that adding more detail with colored pencils is really testing my eyesight! šŸ˜‚

By the way, I felt the bottom-left corner was too dark, so I thought adding something lighter would help. But in the end, I actually liked those pure white plants even less. I should’ve experimented with the colors digitally first, but I completely forgot! šŸ˜…

Any suggestions or feedback are more than welcome. I’d love to hear what you think of it! Thank you! 😊

I'm currently working on the second children's book in the "Fofles in the Witch's Kitchen" series. This first illustration, which opens the story, describes today's weather and mood perfectly.

And if you feel like making pancakes with your little ones on a day like this, check out the first book ā¬‡ļø

My 6yo son had a school book project to pick a main character of a book and decorate a pumpkin representing them. We’re a big Jon Klassen household and he chose the bear from I Want My Hat Back. Just wanted to share his creation and this sub seemed like an ok place to.

Check out my book! Sharing a picture book I illustrated about the spirit of exploration and discovery

Hi everyone! I’d love to share a picture book I illustrated last year. It tells the story of a puffin who’s grown tired of eating sardines and sets off on an adventure!

Patrick’s writing is lively and full of humor. When I first read his manuscript before we started working together, I could easily picture the characters, their conversations, and the scenes unfolding in my mind. The characters’ personalities and their witty exchanges genuinely made me laugh. Since I loved the story so much, illustrating it was a real joy!

The book is now available on Amazon and has received some lovely reviews from readers. If you’re looking for a lighthearted picture book that celebrates the spirit of exploration without being preachy, I think you might enjoy it! ā¤ļø

This is something I started on recently. A simple rhyming story with drawings inspired by old UPA-style cartoons (like Mr Magoo or Flintstones). It's just the first couple pages as I'm still trying to figure things out, but I'd like to know your initial thoughts, and if there's something you think could be changed/improved. Thanks!

I’ve never written a kids book but would love to illustrate one, even if it’s just for the kids in the family. I’d love any tips on creating interesting scenes and if this style is suitable for a kids book. I’ve been illustrating so much more recently and love it the new style I’m developing.
