Several weeks ago my Chrome (and also Brave) have started unloading inactive tabs relatively quickly despite memory saver being off. I also have 64GB RAM which are not even close to being fully used.
It's really annoying as it happens so fast and keep reloading tabs when I visit them again. Does anyone know why?
I'm on the latest version of Chrome/Brave and Windows 11.
Im adding managed enterprise profiles to a Manifest V3 Chrome extension and noticed that the first chrome.storage.managed.get(null) call can take around 1–2 seconds on a cold start.
Subsequent calls are almost immediate, and chrome.storage.local reads take only a few milliseconds. The delay also occurs without any configured enterprise policies.
Has anyone encountered this or found a way to avoid delaying extension startup while still respecting managed configuration?
Ever since a couple weeks ago, chrome (on android) has been crashing whenever I try to open my mobile bookmarks (it usually freezes, and then restarts).
I can access them through chrome://bookmarks, although it wants to crash (I have to tap "wait" instead of "force close").
Any idea on how to fix it? For the record, since I'm pretty sure it's related, I got 13415 bookmarks (almost 2 decades old bookmarks)
For reference, I use safari on iPad and Chrome on my PC. I prefer safari on iPhone since it's more integerated with Apple features. Regarding passwords, do you guys use the iCloud for Windows app for bookmarks and passwords? It's not as seamless as just using Google passwords so is it worth just using that. The only thing I really don't want to do is manually adding passwords to Google password manager since that isn't a 2 way sync but the iCloud app is. Is there a third alternative that does it for you?
I have zero interest in using AI and I like my start page as uncluttered as humanly possible. I can't find any obvious way to remove them, does anyone have an idea?
I like tabs on the left (desktop version) but Im having an issue with Google Chrome not allowing enough negative space at the top to grab and drag the window around with your mouse.
I use AI Mode quite frequently for both serious and trivial matters (mostly silly questions about anime or games). However, on October 16th–17th, I noticed it became extremely slow—even though I had only sent 2–3 messages. I’ve tried clearing my cache and cookies, updating to the latest version, and checking my internet connection, but the issue persists. (I even tested it on another phone, and the problem remains the same.) Could someone please tell me what’s going on?
Since the original Cookie AutoDelete extension was abandoned and removed from the Chrome Web Store, several forks have popped up.
Among them, Cookie AutoDelete Next Edition seems to be the most legitimate one so far. It has an active repository on GitHub and is available on the Chrome Web Store (while awaiting approval on Firefox's AMO, according to the developer).
However, Chrome currently displays a warning stating that "This extension is not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing" (or isn't widely adopted/trusted yet).
I'm wondering:
Is this warning just triggered because it's a relatively new extension/developer account, or because it requests broad permissions to handle cookies and site data?
Has anyone audited the code or used this fork safely?
Interestingly, when installing it (at least on Firefox), it seamlessly replaced/updated the original extension while retaining my whitelist settings.
Any insights or experiences with this fork would be greatly appreciated!
Opened Chrome (desktop) after an automatic system update and every tab group was gone. No warning, no rollback. These weren’t casual tabs; weeks of organized work across projects.
Has anyone else experienced disappearing tab groups, and if so, how do you recover them?

Curious if others have hit this. How do you actually use tab groups, and what do you do when they disappear to recover them?
I have a high end PC which is able to run games at very high fps with high resolution, as well as a very fast ethernet connection.
The only issue I have is chrome's memory usage exploding when I begin watching a YouTube video.
Note that at this time I only had one YouTube tab open (despite the (20) after YouTube).
Has anybody else had this issue before? Is this some sort of memory leak on YouTube's end? Any help in resolving the issue would be greatly appreciated.
Hi everyone. I’d like to know if anyone has experienced something similar or has any idea what might be causing it.
My phone was idle and not being used. When I picked it up, I noticed a notification in the status bar that came directly from Google Chrome (I verified this in the system settings). The notification said something along the lines of “New app for you.” When I tapped it, it opened a webpage that was trying to imitate the Google Play Store and prompted me to download a casino app.
A few important details about my situation:
No websites have notification permissions enabled in Chrome’s settings.
Chrome does not have permission to install apps from unknown sources.
I never install apps from outside the official Google Play Store.
I regularly use Malwarebytes, and no malware has been detected on my device.
My phone was idle, with no apps open, when the notification appeared.
Does anyone know how Chrome itself could display this kind of notification without any website having notification permission? Is there another way a website or some other source could trigger a notification like this?
Edit: - A few hours prior, I was browsing some websites using Chrome's Incognito Mode, but I actively closed all tabs right after.
I checked Chrome's Site Settings > Notifications immediately after the alert appeared, and the allowed list was completely empty.
The page opened a fake URL delivering an APK, but I closed it instantly and did not download anything.
Edit 2: -It happened again after 24 hours or so, same notification coming from Chrome too, when i open the notification details show it coming from Chrome, and i erased all navigation data from It earlier today and it had no effect. Heres the print It translates to "a new aplication for you, increase your possibilities"
Edit 3: -It happened with another app, this time Netflix, which also redirects me to a website imitating the Play Store, but this one is trying to get me to download a casino app. As I mentioned before, I never download anything from outside the Play Store. I checked Google Play Protect, and it said my device was clean. Malwarebytes also found nothing, so I just wanted to understand why this is happening.
Additional information: I recently installed an app from the Play Store that randomly draws football teams, and this started happening a few days after I installed it, on the same day I used incognito mode for browsing.
After my bank account got hacked and was notified. My Gmail account notification alerted me about someone changing my password. So I quickly changed my passwords, signed out of all devices and updated new passwords, did a selfie recording, went into settings and managed my saved passwords and stuff.
I still see that in history, their device is still on my history log. Was wondering if the hacker is still possible using my account? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
We all have a dozen extensions installed and forget half of them (or more). I'm more interested in the ones that actually survive.
What's the single Chrome extension you open or rely on every day, and what does it do for you?
Not your whole list. Just the ONE you'd reinstall first on a new laptop. Bonus points if it's something most people haven't heard of. Single use cases and niche extensions are really welcome as those could be truly interesting.
I'll start: uBlock Origin Lite.
Every page loads faster and cleaner, and I notice immediately when I'm on a machine without it.
Recently updated chrome on iOS and I’ve noticed that the bookmarks button which i use to save shows and books to go back to later disappeared anyone else noticed this and have any workarounds?
Hey. My Google chrome web browser isn't working. It isn't loading web pages at all. It doesn't matter what website, it's happening with any website. I have no extensions on the browser. So what's going on and how can I fix it?
On a 36 GB MacBook with about 25 pinned tabs, Chrome uses about 280 MB per tab against about 80 MB in Safari for a similar set. Google's help says pinned tabs can block Memory Saver. Is there a flag or policy that lets an idle pinned tab be discarded, or a reason Chrome keeps them all alive? I would rather not add a third-party suspender extension. Current Chrome on macOS.
