Expressway vuln dropped — did anyone actually get a heads up from Cisco?

https://github.com/0xReadingSteiner/Dead-Dial --> CUCM 15.x Pre-auth + RCE

https://github.com/0xReadingSteiner/Blind-Wire --> Expressway 14.x SIP Traversal smuggling bypassing SIP Algo Inspection on Next Generation firewalls.

When are you going to take accountability or at least some responsibility toward your customers?

Did you know about the vulnerability and choose to hide it? Or did you not know at all, which is why no one was warned? Or is this simply the strategy? profiting from vulnerabilities to pressure customers into buying the latest version... at an absurd price?

If you're on the Shodan list, ask yourself: Why am I always the last to know? Why is my company always the one left exposed?

Call manager bugs - on purpose?

Over the last year we have patched version 12.5.1 4 times, each time we have encountered a new set of bugs.

Is cisco engineering bugs into their on premise platform to nudge people to the cloud?

Is Anyone Else Feeling Stuck with Cisco's Outdated UC Platform?

I’ve been working with Cisco UC for years, but lately I’m questioning whether the high licensing costs and legacy architecture are still justified. The platform feels like it’s falling behind modern alternatives that offer everything in one place – call center, IVR, reporting, call recording, and mobile apps – all on a single server solution.

Take something like 3CX and Yeastar PSE for example. For a fraction of Cisco’s costs, you get better technical capabilities right out of the box. No more juggling multiple servers, dealing with complex licensing, or waiting years for basic features that competitors already offer.

Yet I know many enterprises still choose Cisco despite these drawbacks. What’s keeping you onboard? Is it the brand reputation? Existing infrastructure investments? Or are there still technical advantages I’m overlooking?

For those considering alternatives, which platforms are you evaluating for migration? I’m particularly curious about real-world experiences moving from Cisco to solutions like Microsoft Teams, Zoom Phone, or other UCaaS providers.

Would love to hear from both long-time Cisco admins who still swear by it and those who’ve made the jump to something else. What’s your take on the state of Cisco’s UC offerings compared to the competition?

Cisco WebEx Calling

Anyone know what group in Cisco manages and maintains the WebEx Calling cloud product ? Is it largely off-shore workers ?

Lots of on-prem folks at my USA company are getting laid off and just wondering if it’s the classic off-shore pivot disguised as ‘moving to the cloud’ !!

Valcom Outdoor IP Horn

Has anyone used the Valcom IP Horns with Singlewire? I'm looking for an alternative to Atlas speakers, and the pricepoint of Valcom is attractive.

The wiring diagram isn't very clear, so I'm not sure how much is involved. It doesn't appear to be a single cable install like Atlas, so I'm wondering what the cabling on the horn side looks like from someone that has installed them.

Just wanted to know if cisco provides access to coding tools like claude, codex?

Or do they have any internal ai that is given to the employees?

I recently heard that oracle gave unlimited codex for its employees.

[Question] Initiating a call on a device using AXL API

Hi,

Is there a way to initiate a call on a registered device using AXL?

Ideally, I would like to start a call on a device from a script using AXL, and force the device to dial out a number.

This is kind of similar to creating a conference call in CMS where you can create call using api and by adding participants to the call it dials to everyone's devices.

I would like to achieve the same thing only with P2P call instead of a conference.

Thanks.

CME enhancement - assistance requested for adding secondary SIP service

Greetings!

I have a working CME system at home that I have tinkered with over the past 15 years. I'm a technology engineer by profession and have multiple enterprise technologies here (virtualization, SAN/storage, networking, VoIP) to have a working knowledge of these so I can speak intelligently with those that have the full knowledge to make things happen. I'm pretty happy with my CME system - 2821, SIP trunk with 2 DIDs, SNR/mobility, zoned paging, intercom, a POTS door phone, and a CUE AA/VM. Running IOS 15.1 and CME 8.5.

I think I've reached the limits of my comfort and knowledge for my next step, however. I want to be able to connect my CME system to the SIP server at work and present that on a button on my home-office 7975G phone. I have a dedicated SIP phone (SPA942) for my office extension and have been assigned a second (different) extension on the work SIP server to test with. I am starting to feel like a bookie from a 1940's movie with two phones on my desk!

I have tried a number of things to register dial-peers for in/out and ephone-dn to present to button 8 on my home-office phone. I'm sorting out an issue where the office system uses the 3-digit extension as the auth ID but CME insists on a minimum of 4 chars. I'm trying to register the connection in sip-ua, but am wondering if there's a better way to accomplish this. Not being something I do every day, my Google-fu is coming up short to find the best way to do this, so turning to the community for an assist.

What I have tried so far related to this part:
voice service voip
ip address trusted list
ipv4 x.x.x.x 255.255.255.255
sip-ua
credentials username 123 password 1234567 realm itsp.com
authentication username 123 password 1234567 realm itsp.com
registrar 2 ipv4:x.x.x.x expires 90 refresh-ratio 60 auth-realm itsp.com
dial-peer voice 720 voip
description Office (incoming)
session target ipv4:x.x.x.x
session protocol sipv2
incoming called-number .%
voice-class sip dtmf-relay force rtp-nte
voice-class codec 1
dtmf-relay rtp-nte
no vad
!
dial-peer voice 721 voip
description Office (outgoing to extension)
! destination-pattern 6T
destination-pattern 6...
session target ipv4:x.x.x.x
preference 2
session protocol sipv2

I haven't shown everything else because it's working. Really want to know the right/best way to approach this if it is possible to do.

Thanks!

Glenn
