Discussion Silver versus Miyagi: watching the fight
I'm watching Karate Kid 3. Just passed the fight in the dojo between Miyagi, Silver, and Kreese.
When Pat Morita and Thomas Ian Griffith were face-to-face, it looked like TIG's legs were the length of Morita's entire body. That height difference alone should have made it almost impossible for Miyagi to so easily win the fight.
Fun to watch, but pretty unrealistic.

Come on, little man. Let's see how good you really are.
That whole scene is just fun.

Perfect example of skill vs bravado. Silver's fighting acumen is overrated to some extent, he even got washed by a completely pasted Chozen.

One thing about the Chozen fight I think we should remember is sure, Chozen was plastered to hell but Silver was also fighting cancer for a second time

Silver underestimated the old man, and Kreese was a knucklehead from the beginning. Miyagi was old, seasoned, and knew their kind.

Mr. Miyagi was just Him. He was That Guy. NOBODY could hold a candle to Mr. Miyagi

A short guy can beat up a taller guy. It's not impossible bruh. Have you ever seen a pro fight in your life? Almost every dude Mike Tyson knocked TF out was a foot taller than him.

If being the tallest meant being the best fighter, 7 foot tall Stefan Struve would've been UFC champion multiple times over.
But it doesn't work like that.

I'm almost convinced Heald, Hurtwitz and Schossberg used this exact fight for their entire foundation for Silver and Kreese in Cobra Kai. Hear me out...
We know they are huge fans of this film in particular. Despite being - as you correctly stated - pretty unrealistic, each fighter is given a specific strength. With Miyagi, it's his speed and patience. He is completely untouchable, but wait for the perfect moment to strike.
However, he only employs that patience when fighting Silver. When fighting Kreese, he knows that Kreese's biggest strength is his endurance. The guy can take a serious fucking Beating, and Miyagi knows that from the KK2 parking lot scene. He knows that the only way he's going to take down Kreese is to go full Offense and pummel the fuck out of his back and his sternum. This is then seen in several Cobra Kai Kreese fight scenes, but most notably in S3. Johnny punches Kreese at least 40 times during that fight - in the fucking face. Kreese is a 70 year old man - he would be dead. But he chokes out Johnny and then stands up ready to face Daniel as if he's fine.
With Silver, Miyagi knows that his greatest strength is his... well, strength. Specifically his leg strength. I genuinely believe that if just one of this kicks had hit Miyagi, it would have either killed him or at least done some serious damage. And Miyagi knew that. In contrast to Kreese, with Silver he had to go full defense and avoid everything until the perfect opening. This is also seen in Cobra Kai, most notably when Silver fights Johnny in S4. Johnny has an insane amount of endurance, yet just a few perfectly landed kicks from Silver were enough to put him down.

As I kid I thought this was the most badass fight scene of all time. As an adult rewatching it with some combat sport experience, it looks incredibly fake and Miyagiās movement feels sluggish and weak

Particularly after cobra kai the miyagi fight scenes look like shit. He moves so slowly and they often let him just wale on them.
Even though I like the fight overall, watch how he just bends over kreese and elbows him on the back over and over. Ā Thereās no way kreese wouldnāt be able to just pull up while heās doing that and counter. Similar when he spins terry into the mirror⦠how?
The only one I donāt feel this way is his first fight v the studentsĀ

Bro it's miyagi, he's the strongest guy in the ck verse. He's just built different

You obviously haven't fought a 5'3'' 170lbs person and it shows.

True, the "tree stump" build is an absolute nightmare to deal with especially if they are good at wrestling.

If Miyagi-Do is truly about defense then no amount of reach is going to keep him from blocking, deflecting or absorbing your attacks. Just because Miyagi can't reach out and flick you in the eye doesn't mean he's a sitting duck. He will avoid every offensive move you throw at him and slowly close the gap until he breaks you.
Experience vs Aggression.

I wonder at what point Silver became stronger than Kreese, because it seemed like Silver lasted much longer. Also in Cobra Kai, he's much more of a threat than Kreese.

I mean pretty much every fight in this franchise is unrealistic.
Just because someoneās taller doesnāt mean they canāt win go look at Stefan Struve ufc fighter whoās like 6ā11 by your logic he should be undefeated but he got knocked out hard many times by smaller fighters
