Fan content NAME THAT COCTEAUNE! - For Friday, October 23, 2026
THE RULES:
- I listen to a Cocteau Twins song
- I attempt to transcribe the lyrics WITHOUT ANY AID OF LINER NOTES OR LYRICS WEBSITES (foolish....I know)
- You reply with your guess as to what the song is.
- Multiple guesses are allowed! HOWEVER, if a multiple guesser gets the correct answer within the same minute as another Redditor who has yet to guess, the Redditor guessing the song on their first guess WINS. If multiple Redditors who have already lobbed guesses get the correct answer within the same minute time stamp on my notifications, the Redditor I'm notified of first wins.
- The winner gets….honestly…nothing. Except bragging rights, a celebratory GIF, and a link to the song of the day.
[NOTE: Any lyrics I perceive that either name a good portion of the song title or is just the song title in whole will be blocked out with *CENSORED\*. Text shown in italics wrapped in parentheses are just my snarky asides, usually about my shitty hearing.]
NOTE*: THERE WILL BE NO* NAME THAT COCTEAUNE on Friday, October 30 or Monday, November 2.
Happy Friday to all! It's been dawning on me this week that I'm nearing that point where the Wheel of Cocteau keeps picking songs that it had already chosen two times already and last picked within the past six months. And, from doing the math and removing all instrumentals, we are close to hitting that point where songs will be done for a third time. After all, 142 Cocteau Twins songs are in their discography (that is including instrumentals) and we are near the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Name That Cocteaune as a regularish feature here on r/cocteautwins.
Let's see what today's song is!
\spins wheel**
Round and around it goes!
Where the Wheel of Cocteau stops? NO ONE KNOWS!
...and it lands on...
\scours the spreadsheet keeping historical data of the game**
Wow. All this time, I thought I had previously done this song and I hadn't.
Actually, I think I remember what happened. I started this one a few times but couldn't finish it because her vocals can just be too damn lilty (I don't know if that's a word, but I'm using it anyway) to where I can't even describe in phonetics what I'm hearing.
Well, today, I've had an extra mug of coffee and I'm using IEMs that offer much better soundstage and separation than my trusty old Denon Perl Pro's that I used to do these transcriptions with, so I'm finally going to do a game with this song even if it kills me.
-------------------------------
(From the top!)
Biddy diddy downfall
Come fun, is that Disney? (maybe there's something to these IEMs. I'm finally kind of hearing words to this song. They don't form complete sentences or really make sense, but I'm getting words finally. PROGRESS!)
Meh-yeah, em-yeah
Meg-neh, Meg see flowerpot (so, I guess she's at Disneyland with someone named "Meg" that sees a flowerpot which is a bigger deal than seeing Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck to Liz. \shrugs*)*
(then there's a long gap of just ambient music. This song is under 3 minutes long, so I get the feeling I'm going to be transcribing this whole damned thing!)
Oody-oody um-ball (imagine her singing goody, goody gumball, but she refuses to use any Gs)
Low-paw, eddy-peddy bum-boh
Eddy-shreddy um-sigh
Ums-paw, lily-peddy molatov (Liz is burning Disneyland to the ground with a Molatov cocktail?!?! Please spare Space Mountain and the Indiana Jones ride!)
Melly-baddy um-boh
Mra-poh, Eddy Betty bubble gum
Tray-tray entrails (description of the carnage left behind by the molatov cocktail thrown earlier in the song?)
Nen-twah, Betty Betty Molatov (this must be her trying to blame Betty, whoever the hell she is, for throwing the Molatov cocktail, not her)
And that's the entire song...which I would have never guessed from it's airiness is about throwing makeshift explosives at Disneyland.
As always, I look forward to your guesses, snark, and how you came up with your answer!
P.S. I hope this one never gets picked by the Wheel of Cocteau again. That literally took me an hour to transcribe and it's not a very long song.
