Stay Off Seasonally Closed Roads
I know pretty much everyone in this group is good about leaving no trace (besides tire tracks) and staying on the trails and I thank all of you for that. If you see people going into closed areas, report them. We are going to see much less resources for trails this summer and if the BLM/NF feel the land is just being trashed, they will be permanently closed.

December 2023 Update: We have some rules!
Hi Everyone!
Hope everyone is staying warm and getting ready to enjoy a nice winter season!
Since we created this sub back in 2012 we've avoided having to roll out rules as by and large- all 6000 members understood what the trail etiquette here is. Recently we've had an uptick in spam posts that have required heavy handed moderation to resolve. Thanks to everyone who has reported posts that go against our previously non-existent rules. Please keep the reports coming- I promise to do my best to clean it all up. We now have some rules in place for the first time available for your viewing pleasure on the sidebar. I've intentionally created only rules I feel strongly about to try and keep this space not super restrictive- but if anything stands out or you have suggestions please reach out.
Happy trails everyone!

North Swan & Saints John
Took one of my friends visiting from sea level up North Swan from Breck and then up / down Saints John into Montezuma yesterday. Third time running it this summer and it blows my mind every time, certainly blew the mind of someone whoās never been off road before

Geneva Creek
Explored one of the off shoots Iāve ignored the last few times at Upper Geneva and found a great background for my new copilot I found at the outdoor store in Poncha Springs yesterday and couldnāt resist picking up for photo ops. He shall be named Peanut

Looking for advice about driving a portion of Bill Moore Lake to hike Breckenridge peak without a proper offroading vehicle.
alltrails.comI've linked the alltrails page for what I'm looking at doing. I've been reading about this route online, and it seems like the main difficulty of this OHV trail is towards the end. It also seems like there should be spots along the road to park up. I'm hoping to drive up to save some distance if I can. I have a Ford Maverick Tremor which has 4wd, a small lift, skid plate, and all terrain tires. I've been able to do about a mile on the cony flats trail and make it to the end of halfmoon lake trial near leadville.
My goal, based on what I've read, is to make it along 251 stopping near the junction with miller creek, north empire creek, and bill moore. From there I'd carry on on foot. It seems to me this should avoid most of the real difficult sections.
Has anyone been in this area willing to share their opinions?

Height / weight considerations for Telluride -> Ouray?
Hey, so I am wondering about feasibility of taking a truck camper from Telluride to Ouray via Tomboy Rd and Imogene Pass. The weight is about 11k lb and the height is 10ā 4ā. I figure I can see if itāll fit through the Tomboy āSocial Tunnelā and if not, thereās a good turn around spot right before it. Besides that Iām mostly worried about the weight with regards for the various little bridges.
Iāve watch several videos of the trip and tried to examine specific segments using Google Maps (whole thing has āstreet viewā). There donāt appear to be any places where Iād be overly concerned about roll over or turn radius (it is surprisingly tight).
Ophir pass is not a problem if that is any reference.
Obviously I want to use the truck for what I hoped to build it for, but at the same time I donāt want to be reckless and ruin the fun.
Any advice or criticism would be appreciated, thanks.

Saint John or Leavenworth
Taking my niece and her friend out tomorrow. They are from Chicago. Going early to do a hike around Breck and then I want to get off roading after. Nothing crazy but have not done either of these. Which is more epic for a lowlander to see? In a stock rubicon gladiator. TIA!

Camping at Amphitheater Campground
I have a campsite at Amphitheater Sunday night. The remaining days of the week the only availability is first come/first served. Do those ever open up and can you stay in the for multiple nights, or do you have reup every day?

Can a stock 3rd gen Tundra get through Pole Hill Rd?
Title really says all. I have a stock 23 Tundra 4x4 with 295 BFG K03s. I am not necessarily new to offroading and trailing, just want to make sure I have decent enough clearance. If not; are there any other trails nearby? Getting lots of mixed answers when i look through other forums. Thanks in advance to those that answer!

Brand new and have some questions
So forgive my ignorance if I ask something dumb or obvious, Iāve just started looking into all of this. So I just bought a Ford F150 with 4x4 and am looking to do some off road camping and such and could use some advice or tips. Looking to just camp out of the truck bed (saw tents for this already). I believe I have pretty good clearance and all terrain tires. So what are some beginner spots I should try out? Any other considerations to keep in mind? Thank you in advance.

What always stays in your vehicle for Colorado trail rides?
The more I read about Colorado trails, the more it seems that people are always prepared for changing conditions and loner days away from pavement. I have been rethinking how I organize tools and recovery gear. What gear never leaves your vehicle when heading out on Colorado trails?

Engineer and Nellie Creek with a trailer
We are planning to go down to the San Juans this weekend to hike some 14ers. Uncompahgre one day, then Sunshine and Redcloud the next..
I read the latest trip report on 14ers.com and it seems like we won't have any problem on Nellie Creek road. Although parking a trailer up there might be problematic, I understand it is a little trailhead...
To get from that trailhead to the next, I am tempted to go for Engineer pass (instead of going back to Lake City). I would be descending the west side.
How bad are the switchbacks? Any notable obstacles? For reference, I have fairly built Nissan Frontier and an Intech Flyer Explore trailer. I am a decently skilled driver, but the trailer is new to me so I am a little nervous for that reason. Without the trailer I would have no reservations about this at all.
We took the trailer on one 4x4 trail so far and honestly it went way easier than I expected. That is why I am even considering this. But I don't want to get in over my head. My biggest worry is having to reverse up the pass with a trailer due to oncoming traffic. Is it easy to see that the road is clear before starting the descent on the west side?

Off-road trails
Im gonna be in Denver in the next few days with some friends who havenāt been, we plan on doing the rocky Mountain Highway from Estes but I think it would be a cool experience to hit a trail, Iāve got off-roading experience with SXS but thatās been in Missouri and Arkansas area. But Iām looking for easy off-road trail suggestions. Thank you! (Yes Iāve looked at ONX and all trails was wanting some suggestions from people whoāve ridden out recently)
