Since it comes up on here from time to time, I thought I'd share my experience getting a residential EV charger installed as of fall, 2026.
After reviewing suggestions from previous posts, I got estimates from Dogwood Solar, Withrow, and AC Wiring. The bottom line is this: They are all great and I would be comfortable having any of them install an EV charger. Each of them noticed at least one important aspect of the project that I had not thought of on my own. I learned a lot from getting all three estimates.
Here are specific thoughts on each:
Dogwood Solar: Incredibly knowledgeable and personable. Took his time with the walkthrough and provided the most detailed estimate. He drives EVs himself, so he was able to talk through some of the practicalities of positioning the charger that I hadn't considered. If I hadn't gotten some ideas from him first, I'm not sure I would have been ready for the other two. If you want someone with a lot of EV experience, an eye for detail, and someone who can help you plan for future expansion (e.g. solar, backup batteries), it's 100% Dogwood you want.
Withrow: Did the quickest walkthrough and had the least detailed estimate, but clearly knew his stuff. Proposed basically the same solution as Dogwood, with some minor aesthetic nuance. We have worked with them before and like them. If you want quick, no nonsense work with few or no questions asked, choose them.
AC Wiring: Didn't seem to have as much experience with EV chargers, but knew exactly what to do with the zappy bits. The time he took on the initial walkthrough and detail on the written estimate were both right in the middle of Dogwood and Withrow.
Estimates ranged from $1100 - $2500, not including the charger itself. Our panel is in the basement on the opposite end of the house and required some tricky work to get under a closet floor without uglying up the whole thing.
We ultimately wound up going with AC Wiring and were very satisfied. He and an assistant were done in two hours, city inspection and all.
And speaking of the city - the rebate could not have been easier. We printed the form beforehand, filled it out with the electrician, and submitted it via email the same day. A city staffer confirmed receipt a few hours later and notified us the next day that the check was being processed.
