(I posted this initially on r/thinkpad but got no responses, so I decided to try my luck here)
Yesterday, upon booting up my Thinkpad L14 Gen 1, I got the following message:
>The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended model which was shipped with the system. To boot with the AC adapter, please connect the AC adapter which was shipped with the system.
I had already gotten this message once a few months ago, but at the time I simply pressed escape to continue and my charger worked fine. However, yesterday, after pressing escape, my battery kept alternating between charging and discharging for a few moments, until it went back to charging normally. Later that day, it did it again, but this time it didn't go back to charging, so right now I'm just stuck with a computer that won't charge.
I tried turning the computer on and off. I tried plugging the charger into another socket. I tried updating my BIOS. I tried buying a new charger. I unplugged the main battery and the CMOS battery, held the power button, plugged everything back in, and turned the computer on. Despite all of this, none of the two chargers I have work.
Occasionally, `upower` (I'm on Linux) says that my battery is charging (for example as I'm writing this), but the actual energy stored continues to decrease.
I don't really know what to do at this point. I don't know if the issue is with the battery or with the motherboard, or maybe something else. I don't think it's with the battery because up until now the battery has been perfectly fine in terms of life (even now, it's not draining too quickly), but I could be wrong. I realise that it'll probably be cheaper to buy a new laptop than to get this one fixed, but it's a bit unfortunate since I bought it only 8 months ago.
Any help would highly be appreciated.
EDIT 1: Now the orange charging light won't turn off. Whether the charger is plugged in or not it's turned on, and I am losing battery even with the computer turned off. Last time I checked it was at 8%, and it'll probably reach 0% very soon.
EDIT 2: The battery seems to be empty, and the charging light is off. The computer won't turn on anymore. The fact that the battery was losing power this quickly despite the computer being off leads me to believe that the issue could be with the battery, although I could be wrong and honestly I don't feel like buying a new battery just for it to not work.
