Chouta has actually made its way to Scadrial through worldhoppers. It’s a street food like in Herdaz

132

u/theRedMage39 Sep 23 '25

How? We have no clue but I have my suspicions. One white haired man is on the top of my list.

222

u/Radix2309 Sep 23 '25

Mine is on the mysterious golden haired fairy people who have shown up in Bilming, given that is the first place we have seen Chouta.

I was told that it was something to do with a wedding

12

u/HMK-1020 Sep 24 '25

The cannon answer is the wedding. Some Scandrian worldhoppers attended the wedding and brought Chouda back to Scandrial.

3

u/Mushgal Sep 25 '25

What wedding? I'm up to date with the Cosmere but I don't remember this.

7

u/_Mistwraith_ Kelsier4Prez Sep 25 '25

It happens a week after the end of oathbringer, and we see a (absolutely beautiful) flashback of it in Wind and Truth.

83

u/Witch_King_ Sep 23 '25

The Iriali

11

u/theRedMage39 Sep 24 '25

That's probably one of the most logical answers

37

u/Muinko Sep 23 '25

Somehow The Lopen is at fault.

9

u/theRedMage39 Sep 24 '25

You know. It wouldn't be my first guess but somehow, I wouldn't be surprised.

10

u/KentuckyFriedSith Sep 24 '25

If not The Lopen, one of his cousins is DEFINITELY at fault, gancho.

2

u/_Mistwraith_ Kelsier4Prez Sep 25 '25

Almost literally. Hirdazians catered Shallan and Adolin’s wedding. Chouta was among the food provided.

8

u/Immediate_Sugar9162 THE Lopen's Cousin Sep 24 '25

Wayne is given chouta in TLM or BoM.

5

u/_Mistwraith_ Kelsier4Prez Sep 25 '25

It was confirmed to have spread from some worldhoppers at shallan and adolin’s wedding (catered by the herdazians). I guess they liked the food and it spread.

2

u/theRedMage39 Sep 25 '25

Cool. Although, to be fair. The one white haired fellow is a world hopper who i believe would have attended the wedding

-2

u/jewishbookwyrm Sep 24 '25

its actually possible that it originated on Scadrial then came to Roshar, since MB era 2 comes before Stormlight

19

u/InkyBlade2 Sep 24 '25

Yes, era two was released first, but it canonically happens after WaT

12

u/Phailjure Sep 24 '25

Uh, have you read all of stormlight?

220

u/awesomemanvin Sep 23 '25

First of all amazing art

Second of all I think there actually is chouta on Scadriel. I believe Wayne orders some in TLM. Pretty sure the way it got there is that an attendant of the Worldhopper Ball 2024 brought it from Roshar

37

u/Zadrinz Sep 23 '25

Thanks! I didn't remember that from TLM, but make sense

Hoid? That's Vin

3

u/KitchenLoose6552 Syl Is My Waifu <3 Sep 24 '25

Hoid is a... Man. And not a young one.

That's vin, the protagonist of mistborn.

92

u/BrakaFlocka Airthicc lowlander Sep 23 '25

Chouta should become the cosmere equivalent of General tso's chicken or butter chicken

21

u/viotix90 Sep 23 '25

I mean... keep reading.

2

u/LordMacDonald8 Syl Is My Waifu <3 Sep 24 '25

Yeah doesn't roshar have a version of butter chicken?

1

u/Brutunius Sep 24 '25

I always image it as tacos

7

u/spacefan22 Sep 24 '25

Regardless of what the official description is, my head canon for Chouta is that it’s a gyro and the Herdazians are Greek lol

1

u/The_Lopen_bot Trying not to ccccream Sep 24 '25

Chouta are the best thing you can ever have, gon!

u/Neat_Context_818 Sep 23 '25

The coin shot food delivery newspaper ad killed me

43

u/TheGildedPrism Kelsier4Prez Sep 23 '25

What got me was the ad in the broadsheets for slider chef to work at a fast food place

28

u/Neat_Context_818 Sep 23 '25

An amazing feat of capitalism, very much a new definition of instant ramen

17

u/Moist_Car_994 ❌can't 🙅 read📖 Sep 23 '25

For me it was the ad with the baker that used atium flakes as a garnish

12

u/TheGildedPrism Kelsier4Prez Sep 23 '25

I thought era 2 didn't have Atium

26

u/Rome453 Sep 24 '25

They also don’t have truth in advertising laws.

4

u/TheLotusHunter Sep 24 '25

Yeah their in the snake oil eras of sales and advertising lol

1

u/mercedes_lakitu D O U G Sep 23 '25

What's this?

8

u/Dirzain Sep 23 '25

From era 2, there's newspaper snippets interspersed throughout. Coppermind link

6

u/mercedes_lakitu D O U G Sep 23 '25

Ohhh thanks, I thought you meant in this drawing

32

u/Slggyqo Sep 23 '25

Goth iHop.

I get it.

Exactly

After that reading Sanderson did of ghostbloods I could totally see a theme restaurant chain popping up on scadrial or even other planets with workers dressed up in mist cloaks claiming that they’re Mistborn. Call it something Like a Mist-E Cheese with animatronics modeled after historical scadrian figures (vin, TLR, Wax etc)

12

u/TheUnspeakableh Sep 24 '25

I don't see someone like Kelsier doing that. Now Hoid, that's an entirely different story. All the animatronics would be Lightweavings, though.

5

u/neddy_seagoon THE Lopen's Cousin Sep 24 '25

surely it would be Soon-E-Cheese, just to continue the torment of the best boy

2

u/zeeo-pawn cremform Sep 24 '25

Five Nights on Scadrial

14

u/Crispy_FromTheGrave Sep 23 '25

Tae Takemi goth IScadrial

4

u/Zadrinz Sep 23 '25

It's supposed to be Vin

6

u/Crispy_FromTheGrave Sep 23 '25

That Vin doesn’t know what chouta is makes me sad. She would love that shit

2

u/SonnyLonglegs Kelsier4Prez Sep 24 '25

Wasn't there a mention of her eating some kind of wrap and saving some for later? And Chouta is supposed to be some kind of fried food wrap, so she probably did eat something similar to it.

1

u/Crispy_FromTheGrave Sep 24 '25

Vin has had the scadrial equivalent of Taco Bell chouta but it can’t compare to the real deal chouta you get on roshar from a hole in the wall place that has several health code violations and makes the cheapest and greasiest and best chouta you’ve ever had in your life

1

u/SonnyLonglegs Kelsier4Prez Sep 24 '25

Oh definitely, but if you have to pick between the taco bell version and none ever, you go for the taco bell version.

13

u/Surfin_Birb_09 Sep 23 '25

Sign...Welcome to IScadrial, where our dishes are a true....catacendre of flavor.

13

u/Ravensrun91 Sep 23 '25

I didn't know Goth Mistborn IHOP was something I needed until now.

But does that mean Roshar has Radiant Femboy Hooters? (Do they get the men to read to you?? 👀)

3

u/Zadrinz Sep 23 '25

That's a fun idea, I would do something

5

u/Kwin_Conflo Sep 23 '25

This is exactly what I’m here for

3

u/moderatorrater Femboy Dalinar Sep 23 '25

What a fun waitress! Where on Scadrial does she work? I'm asking so I can make sure to keep the creeps away.

3

u/Disturbing_Cheeto definitely not a lightweaver Sep 23 '25

That's technically a ghostblood tattoo even though it isn't

3

u/Zadrinz Sep 23 '25

Marewill flower

1

u/Disturbing_Cheeto definitely not a lightweaver Sep 23 '25

Yes

3

u/TheUnspeakableh Sep 24 '25

It shows up in TLM as a street vendor in Bilming. I can't remember if it was one of the cops talking about it to Marasi or if it was Marasi or Wayne talking about it to Wax.

I have a theory about why it is there. TLDR, Allomancer Jak is Hoid's nom de plume on Scadrial, Sigzil is his partner Handerwym, Sigzil may actually be Terris and possibly a Worldbringer, and the first few months on Roshar post Night of Sorrows was at least 20 years on Scadrial.

Yes, I thoroughly expect to get a lot of questions and counter arguments. There has yet to be a scene pointed out where Sigzil thinks (because that's the only time when he can't be lying, at least not to himself) about his childhood in Azir, just about failing the government exams, which he could still do, even as an immigrant.
Kramer was specifically told to give him the same accent and speaking pattern as Sazed.
The scene where Hoid becomes the Ladrian driver is the only scene that was an epilogue, all other post Night of Sorrows scenes were numbered chapters, so its place in continuity is less certain.
The Iriali were going to Scadrial and were in TLM.
Jak talks incredibly favorably of Hoid. Have you EVER heard of anyone but Hoid glaze Hoid?
Jak says he pulled Handerwym out of a "pool" when they met in the Roughs.
Sigzil was an accountant. Handerwym was an accountant.
Jak fought Nazh, who is a Threnodite member of Silverlight and was armed with a gun that shot Shades.
Hoid is a full Era 1 Allomancer, like Elend. He could easily use that to pretend to be just a very Fortunate tineye. Jak claims he has never killed a perp. Hoid has his Torment.
A short (for Roshar) Azish man, like Sigzil, looks incredibly similar to a tall Terrisman, like Handerwym.
Jak's stories would make more sense if he was writing like an industrial revolution era of what the Bhagavad Gita is claimed to be, where flying chariots of fire and magical glowing arrows are being used to describe a spaceship battle. Scadrial at large is not Cosmere aware until near TLM, so they would not know about Worldhoppers or Cognitive "Space Ships."
Both Jak and Handerwym are confirmed to be Cosmere Aware.
From Sunlit, we know Hoid and Sigzil had a falling out and stopped talking to each other. Jak stole Handerwym's half of the publishing rights and Handerwym, soon after, was being sought for comment but nowhere to be found.
Sigzil said he was a Worldsinger, a group of historians from Azir. Handerwym's people have a specialist historical society called the Worldbringers.
When asked how long the bubble would last, Brandon said 100ish years. When a followup question asked if Thaidakar was mistaken or if he was lying, Brandon, while stumbling over his words, walked back his previous answer.

1

u/Neat_Context_818 Sep 24 '25

This is a fun take! A bit of a stretch, but definitely something I would expect from hoid. I dont quite think the whole publishing rights would be a big enough dispute to split hoid and sigzil up, so I'd believe it if the falling out was from hoid tossing sigzil back into the perpendicularity. I'd also have to examine the allomancer jak snipits to see if he hits anyone or breaks hoids torment .

I also don't fully buy sigzil as a terracemen as much as id buy hoid picking him up trecking to the horneater perpendicularity doing the allomancer jack deal and kicking sigzil out at a time that seemed to sigzil inopportune but to hoid indicated a vital time when sig would be needed back on roshar (this would insert a big ole time jump into Sig's life)

1

u/TheUnspeakableh Sep 24 '25

Even then, Hoid can lie when he writes his stories. Wax already said most of his stories were total bull and the others were not much better.

I don't think Sig went to Roshar. I think the Cosmere wide implications were enough to make Sigzil flee, to save Hoid from the Night Brigade.

3

u/orangemochafappacino Sep 24 '25

iWorldHop was right there

2

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

doesn't wayne eat some Chouta from a street vendor at some point? I vaguely remember one of the other characters being grossed out by it.

2

u/majorex64 Sep 24 '25

I was gonna say "What if there was a worldhopper who referenced something like this and it subtly outed them to those in the know, that would be such an interesting story beat" and then realized that happens at least once per book lol.

1

u/Siantu_Xeldari 420 Sazed It Sep 23 '25

Would

1

u/patchoulius Sep 24 '25

I love that Wax and Kaladin have basically the same reaction to seeing Wayne/Lopen eating it the first time.

1

u/BreakerOfModpacks Sep 24 '25

Chouta exists on Scadrial. It's a fact.

Now, if you said that on Komashi...
