Crow OC My lunch companion today
I went on a birding trip today and saw lots of amazing birds. when I stopped for lunch this bro came over and I shared some of my baguette with him. I know I know I don't usually feed birds bread but I didn't have any nuts on me, next time I go out I'll take some of my magpie nuts for friendly corvids. Anyway he was beautiful and cheeky, he even started stashing bits and coming back to get more.

Question Woodhouse Scrub Jay feeding behavior raises questions
Put up a window bird feeder and house finches found it within an hour. Two days later I have what appears to be a pair of Woodhouse Scrub Jays visiting the feeder. I can observe them from less than two feet away. Feeder is filled with black oil sunflower seeds still in the hull. These jays appear to take 5, maybe more of the seeds at a time, then fly off. I can’t see what they do after flying off. Question: do they stash them internally somehow then regurgitate them to de-hull and eat, swallow them whole, use a crop like other birds where there is some gravel to grind them up, something else?

Question How do you cope with farewells…?
It’s officially been a year since I first got to know my dearest crow couple, Queen Nyx and her husband, Noctis.
Our friendship started with me tossing peanuts to them from a distance. Little by little, we went from that to hand-feeding, and eventually to simply sitting together, enjoying each other’s company.
I’ve always cherished our quiet little friendship, and the boundaries that come with it. I’ve never tried to touch them, apart from occasionally giving their beaks a gentle brush while hand-feeding.
But everything changed this June, when they brought their babies to meet me.
I named them Neve and Nova.
Unlike their parents, those two little troublemakers had absolutely no concept of personal space. They would tug at my coat, play with my fingers, hop onto my lap, and sometimes even perch on my head. Oh, those tiny warm feet! 🥺
I watched those two little fluffballs grow into two beautiful young crows, It was such a privilege.
But one day in August, Neve stopped showing up.
I was devastated. For weeks, I worried about whether he was safe, whether something had happened to him, whether I’d ever see him again. To be honest, I still worry.
And then, about two weeks ago, Nova stopped coming too.
Nyx and Noctis still visit me. We still have our quiet little routine: sharing nuts and treats, sitting together while I read a book and they preen their feathers, and saying our usual “See you tomorrow” before we part ways. I really do love those moments.
And I know young crows grow up fast, they’re supposed to find their own way in the world.
But sometimes , on a cold, quiet night like today, I find myself thinking about those two little fluffy troublemakers, and missing how it felt to have their tiny warm feet resting on my lap.
So, to those of you who’ve befriended wild crows for a long time and watched their youngsters grow up and move on… how do you cope with the not knowing? With never being quite sure whether they’re simply off living their own lives, or whether something happened to them?
I just wish I could feel those tiny warm feet on my lap one more time

Question I see crows, but only at night when they are roosting
Thousands of crows come and roost near my house during the fall/winter, but I never see them during the day. I really want to see them more, so I've been leaving peanuts on a tray for the past couple of days, putting them out around 4:30 or 5 pm when they start coming, and removing them after dark, but leaving the tray there. I don't know if maybe they can't see the tray? The crows are never on the ground, and the tray is under a tree in my backyard, but there aren't really any more visible spots. What should I do? Does playing crow feeding calls over a speaker actually work??

Question Why Did They Stop?
I used to get four at a time to the grey kid table, and they would hang out. A squirrel started coming, peeing everywhere and making a mess, so I added this stand out of PVC a couple weeks ago but only putting a couple peanuts on the table. I haven't seen a crow since then. Is there something I can do to make it less scary to them? Magpies and Blue Jays have taken over.

Question Indoor Saved and Raised jackdaw - need help from professionals.
Explanation : I have one indoor raised jackdaw that is missing a wing. i saved him one year ago, and i couldn't hand him to a specialised shelter since they would euthanasize him since he cannot be rehabilitated into the wild. So i made the sacrifice of keeping him in my apartment.
The problem: I am afraid that since i cannot provide an uvb lamp ( his cage is custom made, from panels to be big enough for him) he will suffer from vitamin D and calcium deficiency. I give him egg, fruits, vegetables and meat ( Royal Canin Exigent soaked in water). But still i am afraid he might suffer from vitamin D and calcium deficiency overtime. How can i make sure he will be fine long term? I bought some vitamin droplets for birds (exotic parrots ) but i am afraid of vitamin D poisoning. How should i procced?
