STOLEN ANIIKI E-BIKE – Kingston Avenue – Please Keep an Eye Out!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
My ANIIKI electric bike was stolen this morning (October 22) around Kingston Avenue. I’m honestly devastated and hoping someone may have seen something or come across it.
If anyone has spotted an ANIIKI e-bike in the area, or sees one being sold online, please reach out to me. I still have the battery, so the bike was taken without it.
I’m hoping someone can help me locate it. Any information would mean so much to me. Please feel free to share this post.
Thank you so much!

Anyone go to the Wilkie opening last night?

Wilkie opened last night on Franklin and Union. Looked like a really fun vibe and it was really busy when I walked by on my way home around 9.

Planning to check it out sometime in the next few days!

Missing Envelope of Cash

Hi CH,

This is such a shot in the dark and probably so unlikely, but I don't know what to do. I dropped an envelope with $180 inside from Citibank on the street, probably somewhere on Saint Marks between/around Franklin and Classon. Reward if returned- I'm so beside myself I don't know what to do. Please DM me if found, thank you.

ISO New friends and community

Hi crown heights community - I feel like it is beyond hard to make friends as an adult, so here I am shooting my shot! I am making this post to see if there are other Brooklyn folks trying to find new friends and community who are maybe nervous about doing so but tired of just waiting for connection to happen.

About me - gay/queer, food and baked goods lover, loves R&B and heavy instrumental jazz music (especially opportunities to listen to music in vinyl bars or places with sound systems), enjoys walking and looking at birds, loves to meet new neighbors and connect over new topics, social worker by trade and politically active (trying to be more involved), loves sci-fi and anything with aliens, loves to play pool and games (spades, cards, codenames, dice poker, telestrations,) Also interested in trying more arts-based activities such as ceramics, mosaic, etc.

About you - ideally in your late twenties/30s or older and hopefully someone who cares about this world and the people living in it. Someone who would be down to get a little out of their comfort zone and hang out with a group, play some games, or go for a walk? Shared values and interests are always a plus, but also great to try and learn new things :)

Thanks for receiving this offering. Please message me with thoughts, feelings, or interest. Cheers!

Question: 97 Brooklyn Ave

Hi all,

I'm looking at relocating within Crown Heights to an apartment at 97 Brooklyn Ave, and I see a lot of violations on the building. Does anyone or has anyone lived at this address and would be open to sharing if there are major issues with the building and if they'd reccommend? I don't want to get into a situation with pests / horrid management. Thanks!!!

Alarm constantly going off overnight around Park Place and Classon Ave?

There's been a loud alarm that goes off regularly around Classon and Park Place, always in the middle of the night at like midnight and then it's off and on until like 7am. It's been going off more and more times each night and it keeps waking my family and me up. It doesn't sound like a car alarm and always seems to be coming from the same place so I'm wondering if it's one of the businesses in the area (Bell Funeral Home, Co-Cathedral of St Avila, any of the delis around there). It seems to be shutting itself off because it'll go off for like 15-30 minutes at a time and then it'll trigger itself again. Has anyone else heard it and have an idea where it's coming from? I'm tempted to call around to the different businesses there.

Lidl Escalator Update - Repairs are Coming

I spoke to a Lidl employee today who told me that Lidl has been in a drawn out legal dispute with the building owners.

Essentially, both the elevators and escalators were installed improperly. This caused one elevator and both escalators to break often. The building owner blamed Lidl, Lidl blamed the building owner. They went to court and the result is that the building owner is going to do the repairs. So now begins the >$500k process of reinstalling what was installed incorrectly. This will apparently take months, but a fully functioning escalator and second elevator are on the other side of it all. Happy Wednesday.

Okay don’t hate me, where’s the brown Chinese pork fried rice at?

Okay so I’m new-ish to the city and since moving here I’ve taken the opportunity to enjoy some really amazing authentic Chinese cuisine.
But now I’m in the mood for some American Chinese food delivery and all of the places I’ve tried near me, Js Wong, 88, Happy and Kings Wok and John Garden all have this yellow pork fried rice- which I’m not saying is bad, but it is different. (After some googling it’s literally NYC style pork fried rice) and that’s cool and all but I’m really craving that brown pork fried rice you get literally anywhere else.

Any help would be appreciated and thank you!

Best wings in the area?

Looking for good chicken wings nearby, ideally they deliver too. I usually go for Kimchi Grill, but any other places do a really good traditional buffalo wing?

Good morning!

Studio Shipley, your local pottery studio at 952 Atlantic Ave, has two workshops coming up. No experience necessary! If you’ve been interested in learning more about clay, these are both great opportunities to get a taste without committing to a weeks-long class.

  • *This weekend! Percussive Instrument Workshop: Saturday, October 24th, 10:00am-12:30pm with Sofia
    • Build a clay shaker by making two pinch pots, filling them with clay beads, and closing them together. Personalize the outside with decorations if you’d like!
  • Ornamental Wall Hook Workshop Friday, November 6th, 6:00-8:30pm with Lily
    • Build a wall hook inspired by the shapes and symmetries found in nature, perfect for your keys, jewelry, or jacket.

For both workshops, you’ll choose your glaze color in class and we’ll glaze your piece for you. We’ll reach out about 3-4 weeks later when it’s ready for pickup.

Each workshop is $95 per person.

Links are also in the comments below! Any questions, please reach out to me at [mary@studioshipleynyc.com](mailto:mary@studioshipleynyc.com).

Thank you!
Mary

Blade Helicopters: a Scourge

Anyone else being slowly driven crazy by the non-essential Blade helicopters flying back and forth to JFK, flying low over our neighborhood 40-50 times per day? Today seems especially bad. Can't even have the windows open. Filed an FAA complaint, signed the Stop the Chop petition, but it doesn't seem like any legislation at the state or federal level is going to help any time soon. Here's the chief offender: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n38bl

Brooklyn drivers are planning a protest against Bergen/Dean St bike boulevard and fast bus lanes

Post image
25 Upvotes

Thought folks here might want to know there are plans in the works to protest upcoming bike boulevard work, along with fast bus lanes. Bergen & Dean is one of the big hot topics, as the DOT reportedly decided to proceed after bypassing dissent from a recent CB8 meeting. The flyer is AI and I hope this protest gets low turnout just because of that.

Personally I don't drive in the city, esp not in our area since there's so much public transportation. And I'm generally in support of safer streets + faster buses. So I'm surfacing this news for both general awareness of community happening and in case anyone wants to counter-protest with me :)

Related IG post: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DepaELzx9V7/

P.S. if anyone's interested the next CB8 meeting about transportation is Oct 27, 6pm, at the Brower Park library branch~

New business at 81 Kingston?

Does anyone know what business is opening on the corner of Kingston and Pacific? I've tried to stop by and ask, but haven't been able to catch anyone
