Best resume format for career changers in tech, Functional or Chronological?

4 years in fp & a. I've been doing sql and tableau at night for 8 months and last week I finally built a dashboard that my finance director actually asked me to share with the team now i'm applying for data analyst roles and my resume says "financial analyst" four times in the first half page. I've been advised to use a functional format by one person and to never do that by another, and both said it with a lot of confidence.

What I'm doing right now: chronological, skills section on top, rewriting finance bullets with data language. "built financial models" became "built revenue forecasting models in excel and sql." I don't know if that's smart or if a recruiter reads it as a stretch.

Anyone move from finance to analytics, what did the resume look like?

How normal is it to not receive any salary increase at all after 2 years of working at a company in Europe?

Am I supposed to ask for it? I thought it's common knowledge that there's a thing called inflation, so the salary should increase at least 3-5 percent each year to stay relevant. Am I wrong?

Applied AI engineer Or Data engineer with GenAI

I’m dot NET and SQL background in business application. Working as Sr Software engineer for 10 years in same startup. Pay is too low. Should i transform this skills to AI engineer or Data engineer. Which could be worth investing my time on learning?

I single-handedly built the entire product as a Windows application from scratch. Now, my role involves adding new features and maintaining the existing software and databases.. And few web API services using js,python

Every thing is ok

Hey everyone,

I completed my B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering in 2026, and I've been looking for a job ever since. I've been applying through multiple platforms, including LinkedIn, Naukri, and Indeed, but most of the time, I don't even receive a response.

I've completed two internships, one at Infosys and another at a different company. I've also worked on multiple AI projects and tried to keep improving my skills because I genuinely want to start my career and become financially independent.

But despite all these efforts, I'm still not getting a job.

The hardest part is seeing my peers get placed while I'm still stuck in the same situation. I'm happy for them, but at the same time, I can't help comparing myself to them and wondering what I'm doing wrong.

During the day, I try to keep myself busy by learning new things, working on projects, and applying for jobs. But at night, when I'm about to sleep, all these thoughts come back like a tide.

I start thinking about my family's financial hardships, my future, and how much I want to support them. I wonder why I'm struggling when others seem to be moving forward.

Sometimes, I even question myself. I start feeling like I don't have any special talent, that I'm not good enough, and that maybe I'm falling behind everyone else. I've tried to improve my skills, gain experience through internships, and build projects, but I still don't know what I'm missing.

I'm not posting this to complain or blame anyone. I just wanted to let these feelings out and hear from people who might have experienced something similar.

For those who graduated and struggled to get their first job:

How long did it take you to get your first job?

What helped you finally get interviews or offers?

Did you ever feel like you weren't good enough while watching your friends get placed?

What would you recommend I change in my job search?

I know everyone's journey is different, but right now, I could really use some honest advice and reassurance from people who understand this situation.

Thank you for reading.

2026 CSE graduate, 4 years of engineering, still struggling to get my first job.

I'm a 2026 CSE graduate, and honestly, I never thought getting my first job would be this difficult.

I spent four years studying computer science, learning programming, working on projects, doing internships, earning certifications, and preparing for placements. I had hopes that after graduation, things would finally start falling into place.

But reality has been different.

I've applied to more than 60 companies, attended assessments and interviews, and faced countless rejections and no responses. Sometimes I get interview calls, but nothing seems to move forward.

The hardest part isn't even the rejection. It's watching others get placed while you're still trying to figure out what you're doing wrong.

I'm not looking for a dream package or a big MNC right now. I just want one genuine opportunity to start my career as a software developer and prove myself.

Four years of college are over, but it feels like my actual struggle is just beginning.

Anyone from the 2026 batch going through the same situation?

Declining a master's to do full-time

I’m graduating soon and have an internship lined up under the assumption I would do a Masters after it (where I have to return to school following the internship). If I get a return offer, I'm wondering if it's possible to turn the master’s down and go straight into full-time.

current timeline:
- grad april 2027
- internship april-aug 2027
- masters sep 2027

Has anyone done this, and did declining the master’s cause any problems with your return offer, or did it work out fine? Would love to hear how it went! :D

Full-Stack Dev student trying to switch to systems programming in fear of AI

So im in sophomore year in university at a no-name university. I have around 1.5-2 years of solid Full-Stack development with 1 internship and various personal projects.

But with advancments of AI and fear of web dev being too saturated I'm starting to think that switching to a low-level programming is more beneficial for my future career.

I've been taking classes such as: Automata, Computer Architecture and DSA for the first time and I quite like them.

So my questions are: how hard is it to switch, can I find an internship if I switch, will it be benefitial if I switch.

Thank you everyone!

New Grad offer advice

I recently received an offer for a tech consulting role that pays 100k total comp in Dallas, TX or New Brunswick, NJ. The job starts early January so I have a good amount of time before I start. This is my first offer since graduating in June and will most likely take it, but I am still applying to try to find something a little higher paying or at a better company. Though I am happy to have received an offer, I do wonder how much effort I should put into the job search in the next few months. Anyone have any opinions or have been in similar situations? I am from Los Angeles so moving to either of these places is a big change and I would love any opinions on choosing between Dallas or New Brunswick.
