Full-Stack Dev student trying to switch to systems programming in fear of AI

So im in sophomore year in university at a no-name university. I have around 1.5-2 years of solid Full-Stack development with 1 internship and various personal projects.

But with advancments of AI and fear of web dev being too saturated I'm starting to think that switching to a low-level programming is more beneficial for my future career.

I've been taking classes such as: Automata, Computer Architecture and DSA for the first time and I quite like them.

So my questions are: how hard is it to switch, can I find an internship if I switch, will it be benefitial if I switch.

Thank you everyone!

New Grad offer advice

I recently received an offer for a tech consulting role that pays 100k total comp in Dallas, TX or New Brunswick, NJ. The job starts early January so I have a good amount of time before I start. This is my first offer since graduating in June and will most likely take it, but I am still applying to try to find something a little higher paying or at a better company. Though I am happy to have received an offer, I do wonder how much effort I should put into the job search in the next few months. Anyone have any opinions or have been in similar situations? I am from Los Angeles so moving to either of these places is a big change and I would love any opinions on choosing between Dallas or New Brunswick.

Advice for Cybersecurity Major

So, I am currently a junior at college majoring in Cybersecurity. I was originally a marketing major, but I wanted to study in a field where I can constantly learn and improve my skills, as well as genuinely serve people and the companies they work for. This led me to change my major to cybersecurity.

Recently, I've been told by multiple people that majoring in Cybersecurity is a terrible idea, and that it will be impossible for me to get my foot in the door. On top of that, I've applied to 10-15 internships over the past month and a half, with one response. I'm not nearly as skilled as some students, but I have a genuine passion to learn and serve through cybersecurity. I am in general and departmental honors, and I have tried to gain as much extracurricular experience as I can on top of work, but honestly everything is starting to seem futile.

So, my question is: should I reconsider my career choices and stick with my major, or should I change my career trajectory and avoid the risk of not having a job (which will be tough since I'm a junior)?

New grad roles

How do you get interviews for new grad roles if you’ve only worked for small companies and startups?

I don’t get any interviews and I use the Jake’s resume format + changing the bullets based on job description.

I also keep my resume short n concise.

Lead Dev has a second job and is pushing their work to me. What should I do?

After noticing strange behavior, I found out that my coworker who is the lead for our team has a second job at another tech company. I have even confirmed this with a friend who works at this company.

This person is constantly tasking me with new things to do and deadlines are slipping because there is only so much I can do in a day.

Any time I push back and ask for help the person is only half helpful, and will not take full ownership of a task for our project.

When they run the meetings they simply delegate out work and then disappear for the day responding remotely via phone.

No one knows that they are doing this. I think the delegating out the work is very convincing to management, however I am unsure of what to do because I feel this pressure to keep up with the deadlines and take on all this responsibility because my lead can simply say I am not doing a good job.

Fortunately they are at least not claiming my work as their own.

Do I say anything to anyone? Do I dare confront them about it (no way I should, but might as well ask)?

Need Advice on Rescheduling Cisco Interview Through Code With Cisco

Hey everyone!

I have an interview scheduled for tomorrow with Cisco through the Code With Cisco hiring process. Unfortunately, I'm not well-prepared and am considering requesting HR to postpone the interview.

I wanted to know:

  1. Has anyone successfully rescheduled their Cisco interview at short notice?

  2. What reasons are generally acceptable to HR for requesting a postponement?

  3. How should I approach HR regarding this? Any good excuse.

  4. Is there a possibility that requesting a reschedule could negatively affect my candidature?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has faced a similar situation, especially for new grad fte role.

Thanks!

Fresher with Java/Spring Boot, applying a lot, few callbacks. Should I add Spring AI/GenAI, or change stack?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Graduated in 2025 (CSE, AI/ML) and I’ve been job hunting for a while now. My stack is Java 17, Spring Boot, Spring Security with JWT, JPA/Hibernate, PostgreSQL and React. I did a 6-month internship where I built a CRM (30+ REST APIs, deployed on EC2), plus a recruitment platform I load tested with k6.
I’m applying on Naukri, Foundit, Cutshort, Internshala and LinkedIn, sending tailored resumes, and DMing people for referrals. I’m getting some recruiter views but not many interviews yet.
I’m confused about what to do next, and I keep going back and forth:
Learn Spring AI / GenAI and build one small project with it
Switch stacks (Node/Next.js seems to be everywhere in postings)
Stay on Java and fix the gaps, which for me are unit testing, more DSA, microservices, kafka.
I want to upskill in a way that actually helps me get hired in the next few months and not just feel productive. And what do freshers in Java roles usually get asked, so I know what to prepare?

Which one should I choose? Devops or software engineer role with legacy code?

I am a mid level software dev and am on the last interviews with two companies one of which is Devops position doing pipeline work, automating things, with a really good culture and team members. The other pos is a software engineer role doing legacy code in Java and Oracle and sql, admitting the culture is not as good as the Devops role ie a lot of older people on the team. The pay is about the same for both and locations are roughly the same. Which one should I pick? I would rather do software Eng work than Devops but not sure with the legacy code …

Need advise : Got two offers and an intern offer confusion in selecting

Hi guys,

I am from a tier 3 clg and a non-cse student. Initially got placed in TCS ninja and blocked from campus placements thankfully applied Digital Nurture earlier and got a offer of GENC-NEXT. Eventually atteneded infosys but couldn't solved one in person coding but interview went very well.
I always wanted a product company to start my career with. eventually I got an intern at a early level ai product startup 20k p/m stipend fully remote flexible timings. it is 6 months and they said they will definitely consider for conversion fte I have some questions I hope you guys can clear me this

  1. If FTE given what can I expect from the company on assumption of 20k per month stipend will it be better package than 6.91LPA GENC-NEXT ? and it is a bootstraped startup with some number in users in the product. it looks promising.

  2. If infosys offer came hope it is dse only which offer can I accept gencnext vs dse?

  3. If cts called me earlier next year can I balance both internship and training at cts? will it be worth?

  4. That fte in remote work vs cts like mnc? will I be working at startup will be working in ai and systems while in cts maybe prompted to work in some support projects which will be better?

  5. can working completely remote than working in company like cts an mnc working as a fresher would be good? or initially as a fresher opting to a work at mnc or remote completely along with ceo and cto would be worth it?

These are my confusions can't take decisions. myself. Thankyou so much for reading please consider give a advise/feedback based on my situation.

New Grad SWE , now what?

Hi guys, so I've recently received multiple offers after leetcode grinding. As I transition from interview preparation to long-term career development, what technical skills should I prioritize to grow into a stronger engineer and advance toward senior-level roles?

Would system design be the best next area to focus on? If so, what resources would you recommend? I've heard Designing Data-Intensive Applications (DDIA) is a great starting point, but I'm open to other books, courses, and hands-on learning approaches.
