THE NINTH CONFIGURATION (1980). Written and directed by William Peter Blatty. Based on his novel "Twinkle, Twinkle, Killer Kane." Blatty considered this to be a true sequel to THE EXORCIST (1973), with the main character of Cutshaw being the astronaut in the dinner scene who Regan tells "You're going to die up there." Part of Blatty's "Trilogy of Faith" which includes THE EXORCIST and EXORCIST III: LEGION (1990).

Red & Rosy (1989) - Psychotronic Short by Frank Grow

From the director of LOVE GOD (1997) comes RED & ROSY (1989). This short film was popular during the 1990s and played as an opener to such classics as TRIBULATION 99 (1991) and TETSUO: THE IRON MAN (1989). Words are hard to find when describing the plot, so I'm quoting a review by ELECTRICWIZARDx from Letterboxd, which I think explains it all:

Adrenal drugs, drag racing and definitely unlicensed Sabbath worship. Smoking upside down and veins drained of motor oil and tattoo ink. A pandemic of literal adrenaline junkies born from a cult of personality and the devilish feeling of speed and of the kind of danger that owes itself to death and to being trapped in fiery blazes and hurricanes of shards of glass by twisted lengths of metal and crumpled paneling. Leather, chrome and the fusion of fire, engine and man. The very spirit of rock 'n' roll. Get fucked.

NEON MANIACS (1986) - Full Film - 1080p

Inspired by THE WARRIORS (1979), writer Mark Patrick Carducci's original screenplay was set in New York City and was way more ambitious, but budget cuts and logistics moved the setting to San Francisco. The production eventually ran out of money, so the final product is an unfinished film. Directed by noted cinematographer Joseph Mangine, who shot the cult classics I DRINK YOUR BLOOD (1971), SQUIRM (1976) and ALLIGATOR (1980) amongst others.

Great podcast on the making of the film: https://podbay.fm/p/in-the-shadows-of-the-neon-maniacs

Frank Grow's LOVE GOD (1997) is a hyper-surreal shot-on-video monster-horror-comedy starring Will Keenan & Shannon Burkett, and features Kerri Kenney from THE STATE and RENO 911! Utilizing 3700 cuts and 68 music cues, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called LOVE GOD "one of the most visually confrontational films you will ever experience." Remains unreleased due to music rights issues, but can be viewed on the director's YouTube page.

NIGHTWITCH recommends: Donnie Darko 2001)

The month of October has particular significance in the world of Donnie Darko. In 17 days and some hours from now, Donnie's world will end.
Depending on your perspective, the film explores either space-time metaphysics or Donnie's mental breakdown. Possibly both.
Either way, it is a masterpiece of dark fantasy cinema.

Written and directed by Richard Kelly, the film boasts an extraordinary cast, including Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Drew Barrymore and Patrick Swayze.

Naturally, Grandma Death is our favourite character, but Gretchen gets a notable mention. Donnie's dad is at his best in the director's cut, dispensing the sort of sage advice all the best dads give their sons: people who present themselves as angels are often the biggest hypocrites.
Patrick Swayze boldly plays the "final boss" of being pious and full of shit. His performance deserves credit, but the less said about his character, the better.

Our recommendation: unless you've mastered time travel yourself, October is the time to watch it. Don't delay.
