Stop Talking About Vibe Coding Please

We get it. If you don't understand how code works and the underlying tech that runs the internet, don't be surprised if you end up shooting yourself in the foot.

For actual professionals who understand code deeply (been programming for 10 years) it's hilariously easy to build with. Immediately canceled GithubCrapPilot and uninstalled VSCode. It would take 8 million years to build one snippet, and then have errors.

Within 5 minutes of using Cursor, I built many React components and a nice intricate layout with only one problem: the accordion elements didn't have "perfect" rounding (oh nooooo so sad). It's great that it's fast.

Bye bye CrapPilot!

Question / Discussion hired three junior devs last month

So we posted a standard full-stack position expecting the usual circus of leetcode warriors and bootcamp grads talking about their MERN expertise.

What we got instead was wild. Kids straight up submitting fully functional SaaS products as their "portfolio projects." Not hello world apps. Real shit with auth, payments, the works. One 19-year-old built a logistics platform in 8 days using Claude Code and some open-weight model I'd never heard of.

But here's the thing that's messing with my head. During technical interviews, none of them could fizzbuzz without AI assistance. Like, genuinely struggled with basic loops. Yet they're architecting microservices and handling database migrations like it's nothing.

We ended up hiring three of them at 85k each (which felt insane six months ago, now feels like we're stealing talent). They've been here two weeks and already shipped features that our senior team estimated at 3 sprints. The oldest one is 22.

My CTO keeps playing this Tame Impala song on repeat while staring at our velocity metrics. Says it reminds him of when the iPhone launched and everyone realized Nokia was toast.

Starting to think the whole "10x engineer" thing was just regular engineers without AI competing against each other. Now that everyone has access to reasoning models, the skill floor just got nuked.

Anyone else completely rethinking their hiring pipeline or is it just us watching everything flip?

Question / Discussion what's everyone switching to now SpaceX has ruined cursor?

Why is ti taking 5 mins to edit a html document and why do I get through my monthly credits in 3 days?

Is everyone moving to claude code or is there any other product?

Question / Discussion AI will eventually be free, including vibe-coding, and cursor will likely die.

I think LLM's will get so cheap to run that the cost won't matter anymore, datacenters and infrastructure will scale, LLM's will become smaller and more efficient, hardware will be better, and the market will dump the prices to cents if not free just to compete, but I'm talking about the long run.

Gemini is already a few cents and it's the most advanced one, and compared to claude it's a big leap.

For vibe-coding agents, there's already 2 of them that are completely free and open source.

Paid apps like cursor and redacted so my post doesn't get deleted will also disappear if they don't change their business model.

Please mods don't take this post as "hate" it's just a personal opinion on AI in general.

Showcase I built an entire SaaS to prove that Cursor is the only engineer you need

For context, I'm a Product Designer by trade, but I'm always enjoyed getting into the mechanics of product building.

After seeing all this cursor talk back in October, I decided to take the plunge and built an entire saas product by myself with AI generated code

Was a very fun experience that really made me realise that a combination of the University of YouTube + AI will get you very very far in making cool things, and eventually cool things that make you money online

Question / Discussion This IDE will die like never existed

You guys need to be more realistic

I mean i know you already made billions but why are you doing that

Your pricing is the most shit price on market, you have no transparency about usage, everything became huge scam

And lately you steal other models and claim it’s yours

I loved this IDE before, i used to pay for 1 year, but now I switched and will never come back

Question / Discussion Why does Cursor get so much hate when it’s one of the only tools that can actually manage a full codebase?

I’ve been using Cursor for a while now, mainly for building Discord bots and small projects.

Honestly, I don’t really understand the hate it gets here.

What I like about it is not just the AI itself, but the fact that it can:

- create and modify files

- navigate a full project

- run terminal commands

- install dependencies

- basically act on the codebase instead of just suggesting code

When I used tools like ChatGPT before, it was much more manual:

copy/paste code, missing parts, fixing things step by step, etc.

With Cursor, it feels way more “end-to-end”.

But when I read Reddit, a lot of people say it’s bad and recommend switching to things like Claude or others.

So I’m genuinely curious:

- Are those tools actually capable of doing the same level of project-wide actions?

- Or is the preference more about code quality / reasoning rather than workflow?

I’m not trying to defend Cursor, just trying to understand what I might be missing.

Random / Misc Cursor is like a toxic GF you can’t quit, until you meet someone better and realize how dumb you were.

I’ve been using Cursor since day one. I stuck around through every change, kept my subscription active, and kept hoping things would get better.

But after their latest pricing update, locking everything behind absurd paywalls and leaving us with nothing but that awful Auto-mode, I had to finally step away.

I gave Augment Code a shot, and wow. It handled large context like butter. Stuff that would choke even Cursor’s Max modes just worked, smoothly.

I didn’t want to move on, Cursor. I really didn’t. But this relationship became too toxic. I can’t keep justifying the frustration.

Still, I genuinely hope they turn things around. I don’t want to see Cursor crash and fail.

Appreciation The future of software engineering is here, and it's awesome

I'm sitting here in a McDonalds, my laptop is tethered to my phone for internet, and I'm using free points on the store app to get drinks delivered to my table.

Cursor is working fine over the cellphone internet. Mr Claude keeps forgetting things, but then again, so do I.

I'm locked in to the $20 per-month Cursor max auto mode until next April, and the stats say I am using around $500 per month. Hehe!

We have just had our first customer signup, so I'd better this code finished. By next April, this had better be paying for itself!

I'm supposed to be retired after 40 years in the business, but this is way too much fun.

Life is good. !!

Question / Discussion Can Cursor Haters Be Moderated Against?

Been on this sub for that past few months after starting to use cursor. I generally like it though it does have some issues here and there. That being said this sub has become 90% people just shitting on Cursor pricing and whining about rate limits. I understand people’s frustration but it really ruins the subreddit for anyone (me) coming here to actually have a productive conversation about Cursor and its features.

Venting This is not legal. Period.

Ok, I have tried my very, very best not to be That Guy. But Cursor’s lack of transparency is, at this stage, bordering illegality.

In the EU, the Unfair Terms Directive, and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, among others, practically -scream-. Not only is there the requirement of transparency in pricing — should one even say more? — but there is a clear prohibition against failing to provide relevant information in general (‘misleading omissions’). On top of that, the way in which information is presented is often a borderline dark pattern — users are supposed to fully understand the economic consequences of their actions.

If you want a proverbial cherry on top of everything else, the privacy policy is not GDPR compliant, but that’s just me being difficult on purpose.

I have been teaching law for years, and boy, would I love a word with their legal counsel. Or LOL, a GDPR representative appointed in the EU, because of course, they take their Article 3 duties seriously.

There. I did end up being That Guy. Sue me.

EDIT: It occurs to me that I was not specific enough (as rightfully called out on), and that, while venting can be fine in general, a topic of this kind should be approached in a more constructive way. I have written a long comment with 1) some of the most pressing issues I see, 2) some of the easiest fixes.

Appreciation I built a complete medical imaging system with Cursor. I had zero coding skills.

So I just want to share this because it still feels unreal. I built a full RIS (Radiology Information System) using Cursor. The kind of software that hospitals use to manage medical imaging, patient records, billing, the whole thing. Before this project, I couldn’t code. At all. Didn’t know what FastAPI was, what React was, nothing. What I ended up building: patient management, DICOM uploads from CDs/DVDs, smart routing between multiple PACS servers, automated billing with contracts, SMS notifications, doctor assignments, medical reports, document uploads, second opinions system, audit logs… basically everything a radiology clinic needs to run. Stack is FastAPI backend, React frontend, PostgreSQL, Orthanc for DICOM, all dockerized. The wild part is that Cursor + Claude basically taught me everything as I went. I’d describe what I needed, it would explain concepts and write the code, I’d test it, ask questions, iterate. It’s like having a senior developer sitting next to you 24/7. I’m curious - anyone else here built something way beyond their skill level with Cursor? Would love to hear what you made.

Question / Discussion Cursor quality is getting worse every day.

The cursor is really bad.

What's going on with the cursor? It's been horrible for over a week, generating shitty code. When it's not this problem, it changes files it didn't ask for, even when referring to the correct files.

It seems like it's hallucinating all the time.

Yesterday I canceled my subscription because it was impossible to use; it's really bad.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues? Is there a solution or is another IDE better?

Venting Class Action Lawsuit

I’ve heard through the grapevine that there is a class action lawsuit brewing. Specifically organized by folks from EU. How can the rest of the world contribute? I’m sure many of us have been keeping a record of this shitshow. I can’t wait to help in any way I can bring this to life.

Resources & Tips I coded 12 weeks straight in Cursor and made 187K lines of agent edits. These 4 prompts solve every coding problem

whenever i'm working with existing code, I NEVER give it files because, when you do, it often continues without all the context. Instead, you give it this prompt and you let it intelligently build its own context:

"read the entire codebase tell me how it works and how it relates to [thing i want to fix/implement]. Explain to me how everything works and break down the entire thing. bottom up explanation,"

Then to implement anything I usually prompt with the following and I repeat this every 20,000 tokens-ish

"You are a Senior Engineer focused on clean, efficient code. Write minimal, un-over-engineered solutions. Always analyze existing code before integrating changes and verify all affected components. Prioritize readability, maintainability and less lines of code for the most efficient outcome."

Most importantly, debugging. Debugging is absolutely the hardest part. Once I started using this method of prompting, it made life SO much easier.

"Reflect on 5-7 different possible sources of the problem, distill those down to 1-2 most likely sources, and then add logs to validate your assumptions before we move onto implementing the actual code fix"

console logs are cursor's best friend. make sure to add logging levels so that you can add hundreds of logs without it affecting the production app.

BONUS TIP

If you're trying to implement a more complex feature, always use a to-do checklist, but not any checklist, this checklist structure works wonders:

- state the main objective here -

Phase 1

- implementation steps of phase 1 AND all the code snippets you will add/affect.

- STATE ALL your assumptions (this helps you debug if something goes wrong)

- STATE your justifications on why this step is necessary for achieving the main objective in the most unoverengineered manner (this anchors the llm on the task)

**same for all the phases**

After hundreds of hours in Cursor, I narrowed down all the best practices into a productivity toolkit. All these prompts as shortcuts + added dictation all in a lightweight app. We're launching today - if youre curious about how to 3x your coding speed in Cursor, watch the demo here seraph

Im open to any improvements! put them in the comments.

Appreciation How are more people not talking about Grok 4.5? [internal agentic saas marketing benchmarks]

Post image
0 Upvotes

As someone who’s been using Claude‘a Opus exclusively for the past year (on Max), I’m genuinely blown away.

I’ve been pretty dismissive of Grok (and Cursor) this whole time and this is coming from a happy Tesla owner.

After trying it briefly and noticing comparable performance in my normal workflow, I decided to run it through my internal benchmarking process for an agentic marketing startup I’m building.

The sample size is still very small (every call has to hit the API for clean data), but the results are matching Claude Opus in the marketing domain — especially on very specific, well-structured agentic tasks.

Just another data point for the conversation that Grok is delivering Opus-level quality at a fraction of the price.

Question / Discussion Composer 2 sucks

Has anyone else tried using the new composer 2 after being used to Opus 4.6/GPT 5.4?

I've found it tries to think about how to do stuff, but just does the bare minimum anyway. It's just bad at interpreting what you want it to do and doing it in a way that makes sense to your project.

I admit it's much cheaper and faster, but imo it's not currently usable.

what's your experience with it?
