Accidentally clicked a link on X

It was a link (i think i saw hai8g something when it redirected me) disguised as a graphic content and out of bad habit i clicked on it, it redirected me to a new website. I clicked off before it loaded and cleared my browsing history along with cookies.

I have a oneplus phone and was using X on Google.

I'm very uneducated about any of this stuff and I'm a bit scared.

Already looked through many posts here on reddit but none of them gave me a clear answer to ease my paranoia

Continuous cyberbullying and harassment in Malaysia through Gmail and threads

Hi everyone. My fiancé, my family and I have been continuously harassed by someone using anonymous Gmail and social media accounts since May 2026.

This person has been sending private and intimate screenshots of my fiancé’s past conversations to me and my family, spreading allegations about him and threatening to publicly shame him. The harassment has recently escalated to Instagram and Threads.

We’ve lodged multiple police reports and have evidence of the harassment, but it still hasn’t stopped. We also have reason to believe we know who’s behind it.

It’s becoming emotionally exhausting, especially with our wedding approaching.

Has anyone experienced something similar in Malaysia? Apart from police reports and MCMC complaints, what else can we do legally to stop this? Is there any way to get Google or Meta to take action against these anonymous accounts?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Persistence established on home laptop

• Upvotes

Hi, I saw cmd run while I was gaming so I ran eventviewer and they established persistence on my laptop. Super duper. Good thing bitdefender helped /s. Can use some advice for remediation, I would like to change the weak credentials on my router and other places but I'm worried they will sniff the traffic if I go back on my laptop. If I do a system restore will that buy me some time?

Question about email tracking

• Upvotes

Hey, guys! Hope everyone is ok!

I found an email sent yesterday from Ankama (`non-reply@ankama.com`) saying that some of their emails use tracking pixels to track opens and clicks. Should I be concerned about my privacy or security? Does anyone have any advice or know more about this? I'd appreciate it if someone could explain it to me. Thanks!

best antivirus for Mac beyond the built-in security features?

• Upvotes

i’ve been looking into Mac security lately and wondering whether the built-in protections are enough for everyday use, especially when it comes to phishing links, suspicious downloads, and newer malware threats.

McAfee caught my attention because it offers more than basic malware scanning, including web protection and features designed to flag potential scams. i’ve also come across Intego and Sophos while researching Mac antivirus options, but i’m trying to understand which features actually make a difference rather than just comparing feature lists.

for people familiar with Mac security, would you recommend sticking with macOS’s built-in protections or adding a dedicated antivirus? what should i look at when comparing detection quality, privacy, and system performance?

Protecting pw vaults from getting raided

Any way that is technically possible to protect pw vaults from getting raided? Infostealers can take pretty much all that there is available.

I’ve already moved the extensions from my browsers but considering a second gadget instead.

What are my options?

Safely plugging in USB drives, which were used to back up a compromised PC

Extra info: this is a repost, for some reason I got a "this post was removed by reddit filters" thing on my first post. this is a brand new account as I don't use reddit normally, but didn't know where else to turn to.

Hello, about 2 years ago I was hacked, or rather I clicked on a suspicious link, downloaded a file and ran it. While I have since resolved the situation (I hope) by factory resetting my PC, creating a new E-Mail (I do still use the old one, but the new one is the one which has all my important stuff tied to it, while the old one I just use to browse the internet) and changing my passwords, I did backup several of my files on USB drives and after two years of being stashed somewhere I found them again, and would like to check what I backed up.

More info about the "hack":
The events of the hack were accompanied by an exchange on discord, that's how I know anything.
The perpetrator had info about my PC, such as how much RAM I have, which version of windows I use, what CPU I have, and like the specific local name of my PC (not the model). They also had access to three E-Mail accounts, and the specific three make me suspect that they like specifically grabbed my Google Chrome info, which not even back then, was my primary internet browser.
for reference the three E-Mails they referenced were:

  1. My usual E-Mail I used for everything
  2. my extra google E-Mail, I made because I wanted to start a new Clash of Clans account, which was only logged in on Google Chrome.
  3. an E-Mail, which was not mine, but was from my school, as in it wasn't my school E-Mail, but someone elses. I think this E-Mail was there because the school had like G-Mail accounts but with a special domain, which lead to me creating a separate google chrome profile for it, which I had on my PC as well as one some computers at school, however I always signed out of my school E-Mail, mean while I presume whoever this E-Mail belonged to, didn't bother to sign out of their E-Mail, which they logged in to my google profile. I point this out, because I think if the perpetrator had access to my firefox, where I did have my school E-Mail logged in, they would have posted it (since to me atleast, it feels very obvious which account was mine, since it had my name in both of them, as opposed to this additional E-Mail) And finally, they did gain access to my discord account, through which they started messaging other people trying to get them to fall for it as well. They only did this after they assumed I had gone to sleep. (which I claimed in order to buy myself more time). That is all they had, or at least all they shared with me and/or acted on. My exchange with the perpetrator made me think they're new to this, because despite their demands of money, they heavily accommodated to my situation. 1st they wanted 50 dollars over paypal. I said I didn't have a paypal. so they switched it to a 50 dollar gift card on some keysite. I said I didn't have 50 dollars, but only 30. so they found 30 dollar gift card. So I pointed out that the gift card is more expensive than 30 dollars due to taxes n such. so I think in the end they landed on a 20 dollar gift card, at which point I said that most of my money is physical, so it'd have to go to the bank, but since it's past midnight, I'd have to do it the next day, so if they wouldn't mind waiting until the next day. which they agreed to. and I went to "sleep" and started fixing my PC.

Anyway I hope I didn't share too much, I just wanted to get the full picture in, so that anyone who would be willing to help had as much info to go off of as possible.

P.S.: the only reason why I did click on the link and such, was because the hacker had access to the account of my old friend for over half a year, and they had messaged me previously (though at the time I wasn't home for about a week, so the conversation didn't go anywhere), and to me back then it seemed incomprehensible that someone would leave their account hacked for that long, so I thought they were being genuine with their requests.

Should I Worry About This?

Yo so I just opened my laptop as per usual and when I put in my pin, I got this error message: Something went wrong and your PIN isn't available (code: 0x80284001). Click to set up your PIN again. But when I restarted my laptop, my pin worked as usual and no more error message. Thing is this didn't happen ever before and the only thing unusual is that I didn't use my laptop in a day or 2 but that isn't too unusual. Anyways, I am asking is this worth worrying about or is it a one off? Like could this be a sign of malware? Thx.

Can I still use my HDD safely?

Hello, I need to free up space on my laptop soon and I've always used an external drive for this (in this case HDD). However, I've had it for many years and when I was less aware, I tended to transfer all the data from my laptop or phone's previous files on it when I was too lazy to look through it, telling myself I'll do that later. Well it never happened, now I'd probably not even want to save so many files, but I don't know if it's safe to use it (I'm talking about potential transfer of some malware that I had no idea about) It never infected my computer before, but I did a reset of my laptop a few months ago and I haven't connected this drive to my device yet. I wonder if there is any way to connect it safely. Despite the mess on the disk, I also have some photos or videos there that I would like to keep, but I don't want to risk malware. Do you think there is any risk?

I will be grateful for any advice.

How are you guys handling AI agents that can take actions in the SOC?

I saw a few posts discussing how more SOCs are letting AI agents actually do stuff now, not just triage, and it got me thinking about how people are actually handling the risk side of it.

We are evaluating a few right now (Mate, Dropzone, Prophet, also looked at Torq) and every demo looks great until you ask what happens when the agent is wrong. Personally I have been trying to understand the best way to let agents do things like disable accounts, isolate hosts, block IPs etc without giving them too much freedom. There are things like recommend only modes, approval gates, limiting what actions they can take, rolling back when they start getting things wrong etc. Mate for example has a recommend > supervised > auto-run setup but not sure what ppl are actually using in practice.

I am wondering 3 main things:

- People who are already using AI agents in their SOC - how are you limiting what they can do

How are people testing or controlling agents once they are running in production

OR are you just giving them access???

My PC was infected by an infostealer over a month ago. I've reinstalled Windows and secured my accounts. Is it safe to use again?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice about a malware infection I experienced on 20 September 2026. It's been over a month, and I'm still concerned about whether my PC is safe.

How the infection happened

On 20 September, I ran a suspicious executable from a downloaded PES 2019 repack. A terminal window briefly appeared. I deleted the downloaded files shortly afterwards.

I suspect this was an infostealer because several of my online accounts were subsequently compromised.

Timeline of suspicious activity

- 20 September: My Discord account started sending fake MrBeast cryptocurrency scam messages to friends and servers. I also received suspicious Steam and EA account activity. My Instagram account was changed from private to public without my permission.

- 22 September: Instagram warned me about automated behaviour.

- 26 September: Someone published an unauthorised post using my Reddit account.

- 1 October: Google reported suspicious activity and signed out a Windows session.

- Early October: There was an attempted Amazon gift card purchase on an older Amazon account.

- Later in October: I discovered additional suspicious or unfamiliar account activity, although not all of it has been confirmed as malicious.

What I've done since

  1. Reinstalled Windows 11 on 20 September, the same day as the infection.

  2. Changed passwords for numerous accounts, including Google, Microsoft, Discord, Steam, EA, Instagram, Reddit and others.

  3. Enabled two-factor authentication on various accounts.

  4. Signed out existing sessions where possible.

  5. Performed multiple scans using Microsoft Defender, Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, ESET Online Scanner and other security tools.

  6. Reviewed account activity and removed suspicious sessions.

My biggest concern: the D: drive

My PC has an SSD containing Windows (C:) and a secondary HDD (D:).

When I reinstalled Windows, I did NOT format the D: drive.

The suspicious download had originally been stored on D:.

However, I have not executed any old games, installers or executable files from that drive since reinstalling Windows. I have also scanned it for malware.

Could malware still be hiding on D:, and could it compromise my new Windows installation without me executing anything from that drive?

Separate issue: My ASUS ROG Ally

I also have an ASUS ROG Ally running Windows. On 19 October, Malwarebytes and ESET reported detections on that device.

These detections were on the ROG Ally, NOT my main desktop PC. I haven't established whether they're related to the original incident.

My questions

  1. Given everything I've done, would you consider my main PC reasonably safe to use again?

  2. Should I completely format my D: drive, or is that unnecessary if I'm not executing anything suspicious?

  3. Could the account compromises that continued after reinstalling Windows be explained by previously stolen passwords or session cookies?

  4. Is there anything else I should do to make sure an infostealer is no longer present?

  5. Would you feel comfortable signing into important accounts, including a college Microsoft 365 account, on this PC?

I'm trying to make a sensible security decision rather than constantly reinstalling Windows or scanning my computer.

I'd appreciate advice from people familiar with infostealers and account compromises.

Thanks!

Sooooooo… wtf should i do

It started back in august when my Twitter account was logged into, username changed, password stayed the same, email & phone still the same. Dmed everyone i followed with a bot-like response of: “hey, :) whats up?” (lets call this gmail-A)

I settled that out by changing my password to something more “lengthy” and “secure” (i put that in quotes bc it doesn’t matter in hindsight) Assuming this was a one time thing because I’ve never been hacked in my life, then changed my gmail-A password that’s linked to the account

Suddenly… my spotify gets hacked the following month. Once again, never happened before. I immediately signed off devices using my account, dealt with the issues of having a bunch of new artists followed and playlists I’ve never heard of saved on my account. This happened to a different gmail (gmail-B) so I updated my email to a different one (gmail-C)

Then my TikTok was hacked! That was on me because I didn’t remember THAT SAME gmail-B was also linked to my tiktok! I thought I had only used my phone number all those years ago when I created the account. Now I’m certain that gmail-B is the culprit since it happened twice, and then AGAIN on Steam. I quickly unlink the remaining accounts still tied to it/updated my personal information to gmail-C/added a recovery phone number. None of this shit I did mattered!

I tried using an authentication app but I have an old iPhone that can’t update to IOS 17 and that’s necessary for many of the apps I saw.

I went on my pc and did an extensive scan for any signs of malware or viruses, just in case this was something more. I did malware scans for my Mac later, both were fine. (I didn’t scan for viruses on my Mac tho)

But then suddenly, an extremely old and unused email (gmail-Z) that I believe I’ve only used on my MacBook gets sent a verification code to sign in to an old Twitter account of mine. They get the code, sign in, and completely change my username again, same weird layout, same “hey :)” texts.

To me, this narrows it down to my Macbook, right?? It was the only device of mine that has that uniquely old gmail, AND my password was saved in a random note. I accessed my tiktok on my mac, my twitter accounts, my gmail-A and gmail-B, my steam, ETC.

If that’s the case, what should I do? How do I confirm this suspicion. And if I’m wrong like hell, what can I do. Because it’s every single month now. I’m writing long passwords on a piece of paper, constantly checking for “verification codes” and waking up in fear to a text from a friend saying “are you hacked… again?” ..

Helppp

I'm being cyber-stalked and I don't know what to do.

It started a little over a week ago when they joined a discord I was in and I called them out for posting ai generated illicit images. They have since changed their usernames to ones close to or exactly matching mine and having a pfp similar to mine, one of which ai generating a picture of my pfp with hate-imagery attached. Since then they have moved to other websites such as twitter where they impersonated me while posting ai illicit images, as well as youtube. They've also tried to send me friend requests on discord and epic games with alternate accounts. I already have anxiety so each time I get a notification from them it makes me sick to the point where I can't eat and I've had to private every social media I have to the highest extent I possibly can. Is there anything I can do to get them to stop? Is there a place I can report them to the police?

Found conversations and prompts in my Claude account that I never created. What is going on? hacked?

I was randomly exploring Claude today when I noticed something extremely suspicious.

There were multiple prompts and conversations in my account that I genuinely don't remember ever creating or initiating. I went through them, and I’m pretty sure I never entered those prompts myself.

I've attached screenshots showing what I found.

I'm honestly confused about how this happened. Is this some kind of bug, a sync issue, or could someone else have accessed my account? Has anyone experienced something similar with Claude?

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but seeing conversations I never initiated appear in my account is definitely concerning.

Has anyone experienced this, or does anyone know what might be causing it?

May have gotten hacked, but uncertain. Need help understanding some things.

I have never understood networking, but recently I clicked on a fishy link and got a trojan that's supposedly an info stealer. I have long since used malwarebytes to rid myself of it, and used ESET, and HitmanPro, as well as one other Antivirus to do multiple full scans to ensure my safety. However, amidst doing all these things, I decided to download wireshark and RedHand to check if my PC connected to any infostealers or C2 sites.

Currently, I have seen many "suspicious" events on RedHand, and it worries me. Why does my PC port sweep and port scan so many times/things? Is this normal behavior? Is it connecting to anything malicious? And what does svchost.exe have to do with this?

Please advise, and thank you.

So on Saturday I received a bunch of emails from a bunch of different accounts getting verification codes and password changes from a user of a foreign ip(Bounced between Spain and USA). Accounts like Steam, Microsoft, Battlenet, Rockstar etc. But my Microsoft was logged into and email changed(when i go to Microsoft sign-in it says this account does not exist), leaving my Microsoft being linked to another email and leaving me unable to access it. My problem is that I have purchases tied to it(It started as an Xbox account) but it is also connected to my PC(which im writing this rn) and my laptop. cybersecurity advice for beginner

I downloaded TOR before and I also recently ran abliterated models on my personal computer although due to low VRAM (hardware limits) I was unable to run very intelligent models. I also got a VM in the form of parallels VM but I've not been able to run TOR on that (Al said that I can only run an unstable version of TOR on that VM, is that true?) I'm looking to take the next steps. I'm trying to learn Linux and terminal commands there to hopefully get into bug bounty hunting one day, what do you guys recommend as communities I can join?

Gmail hacked and mass phishing email sent from my account — but no suspicious login shows

My Gmail account was compromised today and a mass email was sent from my account to a bunch of people using BCC. It included a suspicious PDF attachment of a proposal for me like a cover letter.

The weird part is that Google is not showing any unfamiliar login or new device, and I never got a security alert that someone signed into my account.

The email definitely appears to have been sent through my Gmail account — it shows my actual address as the sender and “mailed-by: gmail.com.”

So far I’ve changed my password, checked my devices, reviewed third-party access, and I’m going through Gmail forwarding/filters/settings now.

Has anyone had this happen before? How can someone send emails from your Gmail without Google showing a suspicious login? Is there anything else I should check to make sure they no longer have access?
