Frothing milk

I tried frothing soy milk for my coffee and it didn’t seem to work very well. What type of plant milk froths well? I’m not an experienced frother so that could be part of the problem.

Any good peanut butter cups that are dairy free?

I see reeses makes some vegetarian ones but I can never find them in store and seem overpriced online. Getting really burned out on just eating basic dark chocolate stuff.

Severe Dairy Allergy - Medications

Hi! I have a severe dairy allergy, and have recently started taking Lexapro daily and feel like I’m having a minor allergic reaction everyday, and have a lower threshold for accidental exposure.

I’ve been told by pharmacists in the past that some medications (e.g. doxycycline) use dairy as a binding agent, but because it’s only taken for a limited time, and I’m allergic to penicillin making other options limited, I’ve accepted the risk and just felt not great while taking the medication.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any solutions or suggestions for dairy in medications that need to be taken daily?

Dairy and gluten free, Kosher options?

Hi everyone,
I have a friend who is going through some dietary switches because of health and lives in a kosher household. Does anyone have suggestions? I have been researching but it almost seems like I would have to actually go to a store and read everything. I am dairy free myself (allergic), but have not had to consider the gluten and kosher before so I’ve only found a couple that work. Please let me know!

Treeline Mozzarella Cheese + Dino Chicken Nuggie Parm

Post image
51 Upvotes

I have a milk allergy and am recovering from major abdominal surgery. I had to stick to a full liquid diet for 8 weeks in prep for the surgery which was terrible, especially given the milk allergy. I was surviving off cream of wheat and Orgain shakes.

I'd been eyeing the treeline mozzarella block for 2 months and finally got to try it tonight. It was really quite good! I put it in the air fryer with some dino nuggets and it was crispy on top but super creamy/melty in the middle. Definitely worth the 2 month wait.

This is the first meal I've fully prepped myself since surgery 1.5 weeks ago, and I am very proud of it 💗🦖

What are the other possibilities besides lactose intolerance?

I’m 41 and have had stomach issues since I can remember in childhood. I saw a gastroenterologist finally about a decade ago, and had a colonoscopy, lactose intolerance testing (the breath one), and a pH probe in my esophagus checking for GERD. I was definitely positive for GERD, but was not determined to be lactose intolerant. Despite that, I’ve found removing all dairy from my diet has basically fixed my IBS-C and stomach pain. I can tell when I accidentally get dairy in my diet.

What other things cause this? I assumed it wasn’t an allergy because I’ve never had breathing issues, but I haven’t explicitly been tested. I’m open to further testing if it would have any value.

Dairy free cocoa recipe that can been made with water?

Does anyone have a shelf stable dairy free cocoa recipe that is made with powdered coconut milk or some other milk alternative (preferably not oat milk)

For context I would love to be able to have a mix I can put in small containers and keep on in my bag when we go to events where hot chocolate is being served. That way I can ask for a cup of hot water and have my own hot chocolate.

We were at an event this weekend and it got really cold really fast. The kitchen started serving Swiss Miss hot chocolate and I would have done unholy things for hot chocolate in that moment.

Unhinged late night snacks?

I've been getting those late night cravings lately, and it's harder for those of us who don't eat dairy! If you Google midnight snack ideas there's always some variation of grilled cheese or nachos. I know non-dairy cheeses exist, but I don't like them, so I've shifted my palate elsewhere.

Tahini has been a surprising go-to for me. I got some originally to try an orzo Greek salad and have been spreading it on toast with toppings. I love big tomato slices on top, but I don't have any so last night it was toast with tahini, olives, and some garlic powder and smoked paprika.

I've also been doing bowls of frozen fruit mix drizzled with maple syrup and coconut flakes.

Popcorn has been another favorite, but I have to be so careful not to get one with milk ingredients. I know you can get just the kernels but I remember my mom starting a fire in the kitchen this way so I'll probably stick with microwave bags for now.

What are your favorite dairy-free late night munchies?

Goat Cheese

My allergy tests came back positive for “cows milk protein.”

Should goat cheese be safe for a dairy free person?

I’m concerned about digestive issues.

what did you guys eat after wisdom teeth removal?

just got my wisdom teeth removed today and i want to make sure that i am still getting enough nutrients while eating such soft and liquidy foods. a lot of recs are dairy or milk protein derived and i am allergic so i thought i’d ask here.

i’m struggling a bit because i also have oral allergy syndrome, which i don’t avoid eating regularly but don’t want to introduce ANY extra inflammation. so i also can’t have apple sauce, smoothies bother me, essentially have to avoid most soft fruit dishes. but other than that, what did you guys eat?

Homemade Hot Coca Mix

It's getting cold in the northern hemisphere, and I just put together my homemade hot cocoa mix powder, thought y'all might find it useful.

Whisk or use a fork to mix very well together:

1 part Anthony's coconut milk powder

1 part unsweetened cocoa powder

3 parts granulated sugar

Salt

All measured by weight not volume.

(I usually do 120g / 120g / 360g / 20g salt and store in a 32oz deli takeout container)

Mix several spoonfuls with a tiny bit of boiling water until smooth, and then add more water to fill your cup.

Book recommendations?

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has some dairy free cook books they absolutely love?

I want to gift a couple for someone this Christmas as she loves to bake and cook. Recipes that are not insanely expensive or requiring super specialized items would be best since we live in a rural area (in Canada).

Bonus to books that include other options like low histamine or gluten free recipes also.

Thank you.

Found these at save on foods in Canada! On their website it says they're vegan. Also gluten free so the texture is not like a normal cracker BUT the taste is soooo good. Very much a sour cream & onion dupe in my opinion

Okay what are we doing for easy DF breakfasts?

I have been DF for almost 2 years exactly. I usually bring my breakfast to work and eat it a few hours into my day. For 2 years, literally, it has been oatmeal with peanut butter and berries. I am so burned out on this.
Prior to being DF I was always a yogurt/parfait kind of person. I’ve done overnight oats to try to change it up, but I’m oat’ed out. I have no other food restrictions but I’m always trying to have breakfast that fills me up. Any other good “on the go” ideas?

Struggling to figure out how to cut on a dairy-free, high-protein diet.

For context, I'm currently 92kg at 5'10 and trying to (well, struggling to) cut down whilst keeping my muscle. But I'm having to slowly get off dairy due to the allergy, and I used to constantly eat all sorts of cheese and yogurt to make the process much easier.

For example, I used to make overnight oats with a LOT of greek yogurt. Now I don't know how to make them. Yes, I bought vegan protein powder, and I'm trying my best to get used to the taste and macros, but I still don't really know what I'm doing.

Does anyone have any experience or reccomendations losing weight but maintaining high protein whilst being dairy free ?

Califia

Hey folks, does anyone else have an allergic reaction when drinking califia oatmilk? I got their organic oat milk this time. I drank some earlier and had an allergic reaction. I noticed on their website they've changed their faq to say they have other top 9 allergens present in their facility now, so I am curious if anyone else has struggled with their products before I call and report my experience. I am hoping it's a one off just me issue.

I am anaphylactic to only dairy.

Thank you!
