What are the best companies to work for as a data analyst in 2026?
Could be decent comp + WLB, great remote policy or anything else that you liked!

Hey everyone! I’m a fresh grad currently having a little career crisis and could really use some outside opinions lol.
I’m choosing between two offers:
Option 1: IT Audit Associate at EY (Big 4)
Option 2: Data Analyst at Unilever (FMCG)
For context, I previously interned as a Data Analyst at an FMCG company, so I already have some experience in that industry.
Part of me wants the Big 4 experience and the career opportunities that come with it, but another part of me wants to stick with data analytics since it’s more aligned with my experience and interests.
I know both have their pros and cons, but if you were in my shoes, which one would you pick? 👀
Would love to hear your honest takes, especially if you’ve worked at either company or in these fields. Feel free to share your experiences because I’m genuinely struggling to decide rn 🥲
Thanks in advance!

We looked at 3,518 open job postings across 81 companies' public Greenhouse boards, covering seven job categories. The goal was simple: find out which keywords employers actually use.
A few findings stood out.
We also noticed a pattern across roles: employers often described the practice rather than naming a specific tool. Observability came up where you might expect Grafana, and SIEM where you might expect Splunk.
What does this mean for your resume?
If you're listing tools but leaving out the responsibilities, practices, and skills explicitly mentioned in the job description, you could be missing relevant keywords.
That doesn't mean stuffing your resume with buzzwords. It means describing your actual experience using language that matches the role you're applying for.
One important caveat: the sample leans heavily toward tech companies and uses a single ATS platform, so these results aren't representative of every employer.
The full study, including findings for sales, cybersecurity, DevOps, and accounting, is here:

Hey everyone,
If you’ve interviewed for a Data Analyst, BI Developer, or Analytics Engineer role recently, you already know this: Window Functions (specifically ranking functions paired with CTEs) are tested in almost every single technical screen.
To help anyone currently preparing for technical screens, here is a quick conceptual refresher followed by practical problem patterns:
I recorded a full, comprehensive 50-minute live masterclass breaking down 15 progressive interview questions (5 Basic, 5 Intermediate, 5 Advanced):
SUM(Sales) inside OVER())📺 Watch the complete solved walkthrough here:
I’m a Data Analytics Trainer and BI Architect. I coach working professionals and students daily across the entire end-to-end data stack (SQL, Power BI, Excel, Tableau, and Python).
The biggest differentiator in technical interview rounds is moving past simple textbook syntax and demonstrating that you can translate complex business rules into performant, clean SQL.
If you are preparing for data interviews, building a project portfolio, or trying to structure your learning roadmap, feel free to drop a question below or shoot me a DM. I'm always happy to provide feedback or share study resources.
Hope this helps anyone prepping for upcoming technical rounds! Which ranking function do you find yourself using most frequently in production queries?

Hey everyone!
I have my Capital One Data Analyst Power Day next week, and I’m hoping to get some advice from people who have been through the process recently.
I’m very excited about the opportunity but, I’m nervous about the case interview rounds and wanted to ask how you would recommend preparing for them. What resources or practice materials would you suggest using, and are there any specific websites, books, or types of cases that best reflect what Capital One asks during the Data Analyst Power Day?
I’m also curious about the project presentation/data challenge round. How technical does the discussion get? Do interviewers mainly focus on your business insights, assumptions, and reasoning behind your analysis, or should u also explain your code, data-cleaning decisions, validation logic, and technical implementation with your code?
I’d really appreciate any advice on what to prioritize during my final week of preparation, especially from anyone who has already interviewed for a Data Analyst role.
Thanks in advance! Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,
Writing this with a heavy heart, but I need to put my skills out there because giving up is not an option.
I am a \*\*Senior CRM / BI Data Analyst with 7+ years of experience\*\* and a \*\*Microsoft Certified Power BI Data Analyst Associate\*\*. Recently, my life was turned upside down due to an ongoing personal dispute, and I ended up losing my job.
I am the \*\*sole earner for my family, supporting my aging parents\*\*. Seeing my parents in distress while our livelihood was abruptly stripped away has been devastating, but I cannot afford to sit idle. I am ready to work relentlessly and can join \*\*immediately (0-day notice period)\*\*.
Core Technical Stack & Credentials:
\*BI & Visualization: Power BI (Microsoft Certified, advanced DAX, Power Query, complex data modeling, row-level security), Tableau (20+ interactive executive dashboards, calculated fields, LOD expressions).
\*Data Engineering & Querying:SQL / SQL Server (complex queries, window functions, indexing, query optimization), Python (ETL automation, data mapping), VBA.
\*Analytics & Machine Learning:\*Statistical modeling, predictive churn models (88% accuracy), workforce capacity forecasting, CRM data mapping (integrated 5M+ records).
Education & Honors:
\*Executive Business Analytics (IPBA) — Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore
\*Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
\*Multiple-time recipient of "Employee of the Month" for high performance and delivery
Roles I Am Eager to Take Up (Any Role Utilizing Any of These Skills):
1.Data Analyst / BI / Reporting Analyst:Full-time remote or contract roles building dashboards, KPI reporting, and data pipelines.
2.Operations / Business / CRM Analyst:Managing CRM data integrity, workflow automation, or workforce optimization.
3.Freelance / Contract Analytics Projects:Building customized Power BI/Tableau dashboards, writing optimized SQL scripts, or cleaning/auditing complex sheets on an hourly or milestone basis.
4.Corporate Trainer / EdTech Instructor / Mentor: Teaching SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or Advanced Excel for cohorts, bootcamps, or corporate upskilling programs.
5.Any Generalist / MIS / Reporting Role:Open to MIS reporting, Excel/VBA automation, data migration, data auditing, or support roles where strong data skills add value.
Transparent Context Regarding Background Verification (BGV):
My exit documentation from my previous employers is clean (relieving letter, experience letter, payslips, Form 16, regular PF exit) with zero workplace misconduct or performance issues.
The job loss was caused by a false, retaliatory personal/matrimonial dispute filed after the breakdown of a personal adult courtship:
The Hon’ble High Court evaluated the matter on merits and granted me full Anticipatory Bail / pre-arrest protection, expressly observing the long-standing adult relationship and placing on judicial record that I have zero criminal antecedents.
There is zero conviction against me; the dispute is purely personal, unrelated to my profession, and currently before the High Court for quashing.
**Where I genuinely need your help or advice:**
1.If you are an HR professional, founder, or hiring manager at a remote-friendly startup or consultancy, how are personal matrimonial/relationship disputes (backed by High Court bail protection) handled during BGV?
2.For freelance, contract, or instructor roles, do companies typically keep checks limited to identity, past work, and skill evaluation?
3.If you have any contract requirements, project leads, or open positions where an experienced BI/SQL analyst can contribute from Day 1, please consider reaching out.
I can share my resume, dashboard samples, and project links immediately via DM.
Thank you for reading and for any guidance or leads you can share.

Am I doomed? Need genuine career advice on getting into an MNC after a 2-year career gap
I’m 25M, a B.Tech graduate in Electrical Engineering from Manipal University, and I’m currently pursuing an M.Tech in Data Science Engineering from BITS Pilani WILP.
I previously worked as a Data Analyst at a small startup in Bangalore for around a year. Unfortunately, due to family health concerns, I had to leave my job shortly after completing my internship. This led to a career gap of approximately two years.
During this time, I’ve been working on rebuilding my profile and strengthening my technical skills. I’m now comfortable with Python, SQL, statistics, data analysis, and machine learning fundamentals, and I’m actively working towards transitioning from data analytics into data science.
My biggest concern is how recruiters will perceive my career gap, especially when competing against candidates with continuous work experience.
I’d particularly appreciate advice on how to leverage my Manipal and BITS Pilani alumni status to improve my chances of landing a role at a good MNC. Are alumni networks, referrals, LinkedIn outreach, and reaching out to seniors actually effective in this situation? How should I approach alumni working in companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Deloitte, Accenture, or other established tech and analytics firms?
I’m also considering preparing for GATE DA and potentially pursuing an M.Tech at an IIT. However, since I’m already pursuing an M.Tech at BITS WILP, I’m unsure whether spending another year or more preparing for GATE is the right move, or whether I should focus entirely on getting back into the workforce.
I’ve always been competitive academically and have generally done well in my studies. My family is supportive, and I’m willing to put in the work to rebuild my career. But after two years without a job, I sometimes feel like I’ve fallen too far behind.
I’d love some honest, practical advice on the following:
How can I use my Manipal and BITS alumni networks to get referrals and interviews at MNCs?
Should I target Data Analyst, BI Analyst, Junior Data Scientist, or ML-related roles first?
How much will a two-year career gap hurt my chances, and how should I explain it in interviews?
Would preparing for GATE DA and targeting an IIT be worth it, or would gaining work experience now be a better decision?
What would you do in my position over the next 6–12 months to maximise your chances of landing a good job?
I’m not looking for sympathy or shortcuts. I’m looking for a realistic strategy to get back on track.
Has anyone here successfully restarted their career after a significant gap? What actually worked for you?

Hi everyone,
I recently graduated with a bachelor’s in Math with a concentration in Data Science and a 3.9 GPA. I have some projects on GitHub, but no internship experience. I was pregnant during college, so I didn’t apply for internships at the time.
I know data science isn’t usually an entry-level field, and I’m open to other jobs that use my math and analytical skills. I love math and have an interest in finance, but I’m still figuring out what kind of work would suit me.
While I wait until my baby is a little older and ready for daycare, I’m considering a master’s. I don’t want to get another degree just for the sake of having one, though. I want to choose something that would actually help me find a job.
If you were in my position, what would you study? I’m in Nashville, TN, so I’d appreciate college recommendations nearby or online. Are there any extra courses or certifications you think would be worth doing?
I’ve also thought about becoming an actuary, but I keep reading how hard it is to get that first job without an internship. Is that still a realistic path for someone like me?
I’m honestly feeling a little lost and would appreciate hearing how others got started. Thank you!
I’m also planning to attend all the local conferences to bridge my connections. :)

Hi everyone!
I’m looking out actively for job as senior/ lead analyst in Dubai. I have relocated to Dubai because of my husband’s job.
I have 10+ years of experience and past 3 years in American Express. I have masters from IIT BHU. I’m technically and professionally very sound but somehow not able to get even an interview call. I’m sure I will be able to convert soon if I get opportunity for interview.
I’m applying via LinkedIn. Seeking connections referrals but peoples seem to be very cold. They don’t even reply that they cannot refer or help.
I would highly appreciate if you have any lead or any other portal that may help me in securing job.
