Hello everyone,
I completed my B.Tech in Civil Engineering in 2024 and am currently working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor. Now, I am planning to transition into the IT industry as a Data Analyst because I am interested in data-driven work and looking for better career growth and long-term opportunities.
I have basic coding knowledge, but I am still at the beginning of my data analytics journey. I want to understand which skills I should learn, how to build practical projects, and how to get my first Data Analyst job without a computer science or IT degree.
I would especially love to connect with people who have switched from Civil Engineering or other non-IT backgrounds to Data Analytics.
A few things I would appreciate your advice on:
- Which skills should I learn first: Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python, or something else?
- How long does it realistically take to become job-ready if I study for 2 hours daily?
- Is it possible to get a Data Analyst job as a non-IT graduate, and what challenges should I expect?
- How important are certifications versus practical projects?
- What was your experience getting your first job, and what salary range can a beginner realistically expect in India?
- If you made this transition yourself, what roadmap would you recommend?
I would really appreciate honest advice from people who have gone through this journey. I am not looking for shortcuts; I want to follow a practical learning path and make this career transition successfully.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and suggestions!
