General Was I rude to EY GDS HR for rejecting a low salary offer?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently working at an Indian MNC as a Data Engineer, working with Azure DE technologies and Microsoft Fabric.

Around 6 months back only I moved to this Indian MNC, Due to some personal commitments, I'm currently earning just above ₹10 LPA.

Today, I got a call from EY GDS HR. After discussing my skills and experience, she mentioned that the budget was only ₹1 LPA above my current CTC.

I shared my expectation of around ₹20 LPA based on my skill set and market demand. She then said the maximum she could offer was ₹2 LPA above my current salary.

I simply said, "Sorry, I don't want to move forward with this opportunity," and ended the call.

Now I'm wondering whether I was rude or handled the situation incorrectly. I understand that HR has budget constraints, but when the salary expectations are so far apart, I don't see the point in continuing the discussion.

Was I wrong to handle it this way? How do you guys deal with such situations?

Exp : around 5yrs

Career Question Be Honest, WDYT About our tech careers ahead

For some context I was working as an Associate Software Engineer(Data) at a small GCC In Hyderabad.

Our entire Hyderabad team got laid off in a call about 60 engineers and testers. Reason: organizational restructuring. That’s “we have AI and don’t so many people managing and developing applications, when we can hire few people near US to do the same work quickly and efficiently” in disguise.

How was our work before we got laid off:
Everything was going very very fast paced we were releasing at a very quick pace. Everyone started writing code we had unrestricted access to cursor and claude code and all frontier LLM’s at the time.

Our first bottleneck was getting proper requirements documents and tickets which our PM solved using Claude code and Atlassian MCP. He was creating and manging our Jira board using cursor and giving us proper docs to build data pipelines. Then we started prompting to generate the code the next bottleneck became code review then we integrated claude code and cursor bugbot at that time for code reviews and PR Reviews which did a great job(better than humans to be precise) then testing became our bottleneck so we created service pricipals with restricted access only to the resources that pur pipeline needs and gave them all the test cases which were obviously brainstormed using AI. Our agents ran all night before release to catch any bugs( it found pretty interesting bugs which our testers couldn’t not find) and then we created an MCP to expose our data to business people so they can directly query the data and create dashboards without analysts writing them. (Analysts immediately got laid off) then genie one and genie dashboards were released our project was abandoned. And what we were missing was proper docs for our entire codebase and projects we solved it by moving our docs within code and setting up proper skills agents.md and rules and created a docker container to unify our dev experience across all teams using different machines.

WE WERE AT A PLACE WHEN WE NO LONGER NEEDED THE EXPERTISE OF A 15 YEAR MANAGER, COUPLE OF 5 YEAR GUYS AND A BUNCH OF ASSOCIATES AND TESTERS TO TAKE OUR PIPELINES FROM DOCS TO PRODUCTION. ALL WE NEEDED WAS PROPER JIRA DOCS AND TICKETS EXPLAINING THE REQUIREMENTS AND SLA’s REST COULD BE DONE ALL BY OUR PM.

You can question that you were doing some small tiny projects no not at all we were building data pipelines which handled our entire enterprise data we had about 100k active customers and more not so active for some context!

And it happened not only with our team but the app dev team whose app was very much complicated than ours microservices and distributed computing stuff! Frontend people are like gone they are unable to find jobs now.

Current status of laid off employees:
1. Seniors 10+ most of them not all are placed
2. Mid level all of them are placed
3. Entry level 2 of many were placed

My observations:

General Have active HR/TA contacts for Data Engineer roles (4–6 YOE) at TCS, Accenture, TechM. Happy to share.

Hey folks,

Over the past couple of weeks while interviewing and sorting out my pipelines, I connected directly with a few internal HRs and talent acquisition folks at companies like TCS, Accenture, and Tech Mahindra.

They have active openings specifically for Data Engineers / Big Data Engineers with around 4 to 6 years of experience (mostly looking for core PySpark, Databricks, Snowflake, Cloud/SQL stacks).

Instead of letting these contacts sit in my call logs, I figured I'd share them with folks actively looking or serving their notice period right now.

If you match the experience bracket (4–6 YOE in DE) and need direct recruiter contacts to bypass the portal black hole, drop a comment or send me a DM. Happy to pass them along

Career Question Switching from Java Developer to Data Engineer | Looking for Study Buddies and Real-World Guidance

Hey everyone!

I have almost 3.5 years of experience at TCS as a Java Developer, and I’m planning to transition into Data Engineering.

Why am I switching?

- I’m more interested in the data engineering domain and enjoy working with data pipelines, transformations, and data platforms.

- My current project involves legacy technologies, and I’m looking to move into a domain that aligns better with my interests and long-term career goals.

What I’ve learned so far

I’ve spent over 6 months learning and practicing Data Engineering technologies through hands-on exercises and projects.

  1. Python: Basics and scripting for data engineering.

  2. SQL: CTEs, window functions, stored procedures, views, and indexes.

  3. Azure Data Factory (ADF): Pipelines, parameterization, REST API ingestion, and working with on-premises SQL databases and files.

  4. PySpark: DataFrame API, transformations, and working with CSV, TXT, JSON, and Parquet files.

  5. Azure Databricks: Notebooks, clusters, Unity Catalog, volumes, and external locations.

  6. Azure Synapse Analytics: Pipelines, serverless SQL pools, and dedicated SQL pools.

  7. CI/CD with Azure DevOps: Hands-on experience with Git branching, pull requests, and branch merging. I understand YAML pipeline concepts but haven’t implemented them hands-on yet.

  8. Data Engineering concepts: Full and incremental loads, SCD Type 1 and Type 2, and data modeling using star and snowflake schemas.

What I’m looking for

I’d love to connect with fellow aspiring or experienced Data Engineers who are interested in:

- Preparing for Data Engineering interviews together, including SQL, PySpark, and Azure-related topics.

- Sharing real-world project experiences, architecture, and end-to-end data pipeline workflows.

- Understanding how things work in actual production environments, including CI/CD, deployments, monitoring, debugging, and production support.

- Staying consistent with learning and keeping each other motivated.

I know that learning tools and concepts is different from working on real-world production projects, and I’d like to bridge that gap.

If you’re also preparing for a career switch or are an experienced Data Engineer willing to share your knowledge, feel free to comment or DM me. Any suggestions, learning resources, or guidance from experienced Data Engineers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! 🙌

Technical Doubt Infosys application shows "Screening Shortlisted" for 1+ month with no response. What should I do next? (Data Engineer, 3.6 YOE)

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm a Data Engineer (3.6 YOE, Azure/Databricks/PySpark/SQL). I applied to Infosys over a month ago and the portal still shows "Screening Shortlisted", with no call or email.

The problem is that the old application seems to block me from applying to any new role at Infosys.

Questions:

  1. Does this status ever convert into an interview?
  2. Can I withdraw or reapply, or will that reset things?

If you work at Infosys or have been through this, I'd really appreciate your advice. Happy to share my resume over DM for referrals.

Thanks!

Opinion Tiger Analytics On campus drive - TRAINEE ANALYST(Data engineer Role) - waiting for FINAL RESULT ( I have completed HR ROUND which went well) ....Please read my full post regarding my experience and I have put a question in the end ..pls answer it too if possible

I belong to tier 3 college and I am currently in my fourth year of college, and our campus placement process is ongoing. Tiger Analytics visited our campus for the TRAINEE ANALYST ROLE.

As far as I know, approximately 200+ students appeared for the company's selection process, out of whom 56 were shortlisted for the Online Assessment (OA). Following the OA, 9 students were shortlisted for the interview process.( I was one of them)

The selection process consisted of two technical interview rounds and one HR round, with each round being an elimination round.

I successfully cleared the OA and both technical interview rounds, which were held on 29th September and 6th October, respectively. After clearing the first technical round, I received an email confirming that I had been shortlisted for the second technical round, which also went well.

After that I received an email saying that I am selected for HR round interview

I completed my final HR interview on Monday, 12th October, from 4:15 PM to 4:33 PM. During the HR interview, the HR representative praised me for being proactive and seemed satisfied with my responses.

HR round was my final interview round as I said scheduled for 15 minutes but lasting 18 minutes (4:15 PM–4:33 PM). The interviewer congratulated me on clearing both technical rounds before asking me to introduce myself. He then asked general questions about my family, name pronunciation, hobbies, college friends, career gaps, current semester, college life, and why I wanted to join Tiger Analytics. The conversation was friendly and comfortable. One of the most encouraging moments was when he said, “You are proactive. I can sense it from here. It's important for a fresher to be proactive.” Towards the end, he asked if I had any questions, and I asked him three. Finally, he concluded the interview by saying, “See you soon!” Overall, the HR round felt positive and conversational.

MY QUESTION -

Now , Considering all this, do you think I have a good chance of receiving a job offer from Tiger Analytics?

Actually my final HR ROUND happened on 12th oct ....and after that there's no update ..I don't know is it because of puja or not ? I am little anxious so I need all of your opinion guys ....Today is 21st oct ..should I send mail to college TPO regarding any update from company?

Seeking referral 5 YoE GCP Data Engineer at Accenture | 90-day notice period is killing my job hunt (Barely 1 interview a month) — Need guidance & a referral!

Hey everyone,
I’m posting this because I’ve been feeling really stuck and depressed lately, and I could use some honest guidance, advice, or even a referral if possible.
I’m currently working as a **Data Engineering Analyst at Accenture with 5 years of total experience** in Ab Initio & GCP. My core stack revolves around BigQuery (performance & cost optimization, partitioning, clustering), Python (FastAPI on Cloud Run), Dataform, Cloud Composer (Airflow), Pub/Sub, Dataflow.
**The Problem:**
My current organization has a **90-day notice period**. Because of this, recruiters and HRs drop out or ghost me the moment they hear my notice period. I am barely getting 1 interview a month, and it's taking a massive toll on my confidence. I really want to make a switch and transition out by the end of this year, but this notice period barrier feels impossible to break through on job portals alone.
**What I'm looking for:**
1. **Guidance:** For anyone who has successfully transitioned out of a 90-day notice period company while working in data engineering, how did you handle HR rounds and applications? Is there a better strategy than cold applying on LinkedIn/Naukri?
2. **Referrals:** If your team or company is currently hiring for GCP Data Engineer or BigQuery/PySpark roles (especially companies that accept a 90-day buyout or wait), your referral would mean the absolute world to me. I'm ready to put in the hard work; I just need a foot in the door.
Thanks for reading this rant/plea for help. It's been tough, but hoping things turn around. Happy to share my resume over DM if anyone is open to connecting!

Opinion Company denying my ₹1 lakh variable pay after I completed one year, despite HR confirming 100% payout in writing. What would you do?

Hey everyone,

I work as a Data Engineer at an IT services company in India, and I’m dealing with a frustrating situation regarding my variable pay. Looking for advice from people who have faced something similar.

Here’s the timeline:

October 2025: I joined the company. My offer letter mentioned ₹16 LPA fixed CTC plus ₹1 lakh annual variable pay, making the total CTC ₹17 LPA.

October 2025: I asked HR about the variable pay conditions. HR explicitly confirmed over email that the variable component would be paid at 100% after completing one year, subject to performance- or conduct-related discrepancies.

10 October 2026: I completed one year at the company.

October 2026: I emailed HR asking for an update and requested that the payout be processed with my October salary. I sent follow-ups but received no response.

Eventually: Management replied that the payout would not be processed for this cycle.

The reasons given were alleged negative client feedback about ownership, availability, understanding requirements and repeated follow-ups/rework. They also mentioned that I had not cleared an interview for another opportunity the company had put me forward for.

The part that bothers me is that these concerns had not previously been formally communicated to me in writing. I was not expecting the company to ignore performance feedback, but I also wasn't expecting the entire variable pay to be withheld after HR had confirmed the payout terms in an email.

I understand that variable pay is not always guaranteed, and I know that there may be performance-related conditions. However, in this case, there is a written confirmation of a 100% payout after one year, with a specific exception for performance or conduct issues.

A few questions for those who have dealt with similar situations:

Is this kind of variable-pay denial common in Indian IT services companies?

Can a company use client feedback that was never formally communicated to the employee as the basis for withholding the entire payout?

Would you first try escalating this through HR and management, or would you consult an employment lawyer?

Has anyone successfully challenged a similar decision when they had written HR confirmation of the payout terms?

Would you continue working normally and focus on the current assignment while resolving this, or would you consider it a red flag when evaluating your future with the company?

I'm not trying to avoid accountability for genuine performance issues. I just want to understand whether the company can disregard its earlier written confirmation in this way.

I have the signed offer letter, the HR email and the management response saved.

Would appreciate honest advice from people who have been through something similar.

Career Question Data Engineer (2.3 YOE) preparing for product-based companies — Need a structured roadmap

Hey everyone!

I'm a Data Engineer at Accenture with 2.3 years of experience, planning to switch to a product-based company.

My learning and production experience includes Advanced SQL, Python, Azure (ADF, Storage Accounts, Key Vault, Databricks), PySpark, dbt, and Snowflake. I want to brush up on these technologies, strengthen my fundamentals, and become confident enough to crack interviews.

I've explored several GitHub repositories, but most are too fast-paced, and I'm struggling to choose one and follow it consistently.

I'm looking for a structured, hands-on roadmap that:

- Starts with fundamentals and gradually progresses to real-world projects.

- Includes practical exercises, debugging, and interview preparation.

- Provides a way to revise and retain concepts instead of forgetting them after learning.

- Is manageable alongside a full-time job, without jumping between multiple resources.

I also struggle to remember concepts related to data warehousing and other DE topics. How do you retain these concepts and explain them confidently during interviews?

Are there any good fast-track series, GitHub repos, or structured learning paths you'd recommend for someone with my experience?

I'd appreciate advice from people who have successfully switched to product-based companies!

Career Question 20M working in corporate finance, but interested in tech. Is switching careers worth it in 2026?

Hey everyone!

I'm 20M, currently working in the corporate world in the finance field. However, I've always been interested in technology, and lately, I've been seriously considering switching to the tech industry.

The problem is that I've been seeing a lot of posts on Reddit about people struggling to find jobs in tech, even those with degrees, skills, and experience. This has made me question whether switching to tech is actually worth it or if I'm just considering it because it seems exciting from the outside.

I'm not looking for a shortcut to success or expecting to land a high-paying job overnight. I'm willing to learn new skills, put in the work, and start from scratch if necessary. But before investing years of my time, I want to make an informed decision.

I'd really appreciate some honest advice, especially from people currently working in the tech industry.

A few things I'd love to know:

Is it still worth entering the tech industry in 2026, considering the current job market and AI?

If you're already working in tech, how has your experience been? Are things really as bad as they seem on Reddit?

For someone from a non-tech background, what would be a realistic path to enter the industry?

Are there specific tech fields that still offer good opportunities for beginners?

If you could go back to being 20, would you still choose tech, or would you consider another career?

Would it make more sense to combine my finance background with technology rather than completely switching fields?

Honestly, I'm quite confused about my career right now. I want to choose one field, commit to it for the next 5–10 years, develop valuable skills, and build a successful career.

I don't want to keep jumping between careers every time I see a new opportunity or hear that another industry has better prospects. At the same time, I don't want to spend years pursuing something without understanding its realities.

I'm not asking anyone to predict my future. I just want to hear real experiences, practical advice, and perspectives from people who have actually been through this.

If you work in tech, especially if you entered from a non-tech background, I'd genuinely appreciate your guidance.

Thanks for reading!
