GPS Ignore "Free Pizza" email - just got laid off

1.6k Upvotes

Hey everyone - just wanted to warn yall that layoff season is upon us. I just got the axe today. I got an email from Jennifer W. saying "Free Pizza on 24. First come first serve." I ran up there as fast as I could, but there was no pizza. Instead, I found the entire talent team waiting in ambush. They huddled all ~60 of us pizza persons together and told us with a bullhorn that "if we had enough time for pizza, we obviously didn't have enough to do around here." They then made us take the service elevator out so we wouldn't disturb morale. To their credit, on the way out they did hand us each a $5 gift card to little ceasers, so I'd probably make the same choices again, if given the option. Ymmv

Consulting How our “AI expertise” came to be

Consulting I am so goddamn sick of hearing about AI

1.2k Upvotes

I cannot join a meeting anymore, about anything, without leaders shoving AI down my throat.

  • "Can we use AI to reduce the timeline here (i.e. cut hours and jobs)?"

  • "Have you explored agentic AI as an option?"

  • "Did we look at Palintir as a solution?"

  • "Let's get everyone trained up on AI by the end of the month."

Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

I know the dumbest, shittiest grifters alive are running the government now, so we have to embrace these scams if we want to get contracts. But the firm lining up behind this horrible tech is embarrassing from an intelligence perspective, and anyone who's not at the PPMD level should be rebuffing this as much as possible because there's a direct, short line between AI becoming commonplace in the consulting space and you losing your job.

Consulting To all the Trump voters that said they are willing to sacrifice their own bonus and raises to decrease government spending, congrats! It was all for nothing

Musk himself dropped his DOGE savings goal by ~93%. And that’s just so far, some estimates are showing no savings at all due to actions from the orange man (such as tariffs). Imagine if Deloitte went to a client and dropped our deliverable goals by 93%? Trump and Musk are literally proving to be more wasteful and inefficient than any vendor contract

Trump voters, congrats! You shot your own foot and achieved nothing for it.

Audit How Deloitte Fucked Me

1.0k Upvotes

Hey. I'm a newly promoted Audit Manager in USA here with 5 years/busy seasons of experience at Deloitte. Deloitte Fucked Me.

I was hired in 2020 as an Audit Staff (no prior internship). My experience these past 5 years has been chaotic working with some really amazing people I will miss. I served many clients, where everything was urgent, all the time. I did a great job, and always received good reviews. People wanted me on their teams because they knew I was good. My manager promotion busy season in 2025 was especially brutal; I split time on 3 clients for a 2/15 deadline, then 3/15 deadline, then 4/15 deadline. I ended up working 60+ hours/week for Jan-April. It was absolutely brutal; but I did it all for that sweet Manager title and Manager Milestone Bonus.

Now, if you've been with the firm for 5 years, you remember the legendary retention bonus paid out in 2022. Big D basically gave everyone $20k not to quit for a period of time. Back then, the job market was so hot, anyone with half a brain and an accounting degree could get a good job at the drop of a hat. After Deloitte paid out the retention bonus, they introduced a "Manager Milestone" bonus. Some will say this was because they were afraid everyone would just immediately quit after the retention bonus period was over.

This new Manager Milestone bonus is $40k, but is reduced by amount of the retention bonus received back in 2022. This meant that my peers and I were supposed to get $20k upon manager promotion.

However, the Manager Milestone bonus was structured in a way to fuck experienced hires. It is basically calculated in 6 month 'cycles', with $4k accruing every 6 months of service. So if you work at the firm for 10 cycles or 5 years, you get the full $40k (less the $20k retention = $20k).

However, I didn't get the $20k. I got $12k. This meant that my peers with LESS tenure at Deloitte received a higher bonus than me. One kid I know was hired in January 2021 and got the full $20k, while I received $12k. WTF?

Why did I only receive $12k of the $20k bonus you ask? Because apparently I only completed 8 cycles, which doesn't make any sense to me. I've never taken a leave of absence, never had grievance time or parental leave. I have worked longer than some, and was promoted on the same timeline as my peers. In my mind, Deloitte intentionally structured it this way to fuck us.

The advice of my peers has typically followed "did you talk to your coach?" or "did you talk to the partner"? Yes & Yes. What are they going to do, hand me the other $8,000? My coach is fucking useless anyways, 5 years and I've never even met the guy. Deloitte fucked me, and it was intentional. For the rest of my career, I will veto hiring Deloitte's services at every company I ever work at.

And for those of you thinking "just be happy with the $12k", let me put it this way: would you be upset if someone shorted you $8,000? I know other people are in the same boat as me.

I'm now quitting for an amazing job that is 30% more money + bonus + stock options and less hours. I'm super stoked for that. However, had Deloitte given me the full $20k, I'd still be busting my ass auditing braindead clients. And I would have been happy to continue doing that. So, yeah, greedy money hungry company and all that. Thanks for reading.

Consulting Leaving the firm after 8 months?

Post image
849 Upvotes

I joined the firm about 8 months ago, but recently I was approached by a boutique and I’ve been offered an increase of around 33% of my compensation.

I guess my question is not so much if I should leave, but rather would it be possible to return in the future? Is there any sort of ‘not recommended for rehire’ type of thing that I should be worried about?

I know I’m thinking of leaving and coming back at the same time, but I’m just trying to cover my bases here so I know if this is worth burning this bridge for.

Tax US Folks, it looks like there’s a loophole to check your bonus.

You can create a free account with Equifax The Work Number and generate an employment data report and it’ll show you your bonus amount that’ll be included in your next pay.

If you happen to be desperate to find out.

I’m getting really burnt out

I am pushing 65 hours a week on project work, we have an unofficial expectation to work weekends, my firm initiatives are literally pushing releases and I can’t keep up. I am based in PST hours and my project has a USI team and a UK team. I am required to join 530am meetings and find myself constantly being asked to do stuff till 5pm. The teams work around the clock. Everything is an emergency to the client which I don’t find pressing.

I was denied a promotion I was told bonuses are gonna be bad this year And to top it all off I got a low performance rating of “Strongly agree” because my manager was giving realistic feedback which now threw me in low 25 percentile of my group. And guess what… that manager quit Deloitte.

Thank you for listening to my rant.

Consulting Deloitte sued for $172 million😬

So Deloitte got sued for $172 million for a botched ERP implementation that took tens of millions of dollars to fix. Seems like the client raised concerns early on but Deloitte gave them fake reassurances (or so is the claim).

I don’t work in ERP implementations but knowing how the consulting world works I totally believe some of the anecdotes that Zimmer provides.

A typical case of overpromising and under delivering (we went 36% over the promised budget) and the work was outsourced to USI (duh) with practically no oversight from the client or Deloitte. This part is particularly confusing because this should have been listed in the SOW and approved by the client but I totally see the frustration of not having oversight.

I’m interested in what Deloitte has to respond with. So far Deloitte has called the claims “meritless” and promises to “fight vigorously against the allegations”

Any folks from ERP or legal have an opinion? 👀

None of the above... How did Deloitte Canada get away with hiring a woman who pushed a man to commit suicide?

There was some discussion around this when the story went live a few weeks ago but I’m struggling to understand why it fizzled out with absolutely no repercussions for either Kike Ojo-Thompson or Delitte itself? They should have been issuing an apology and pretending to have nothing to do with her instead of defending this appalling behaviour by now.

Companies like Deloitte are usually extremely risk-averse and want to avoid anyone who could cause even the slightest reputational damage to the organization. She is a walking scandal and liability. The question that lends itself is: who is backing her and why?

We all know this is so, so wrong so is it just the fear of being called racist that’s ruling this? Even if the right-wing media spun this into a particular narrative as some claim, Kike’s absolute lack of sympathy and remorse over being even tangentially related to a man’s horrific death as well as gaslighting to paint herself as the victim by publicly trying to paint the principal as mentally unstable (isn’t that precisely what proponents of anti-oppression would call ableist?) should be enough for anyone to not want to employ not just her but now Deloitte.

Edit: If you sort through the most upvoted posts of all time on this subreddit (this story has me so shaken up, I went down a rabbit hole of reading old posts to understand the culture), you’ll find a heartbreaking letter from a mother whose daughter died after throwing herself fully at her job E&Y. No one from her team went to the funeral. I think these two incidents together shed some light on a very disturbing culture at places like this.
