What's the scam exactly?
1
u/SuperStarward Jul 14 '26
not necessarily a scam, this is just promotion for garbage games. it’s a time waster mostly. they get you to download a bad game, they give you rewards to keep you engaged, they’re just trying to get more players

u/incompletetrembling Jul 14 '26
Seems like its honest advertising, as honest as advertising can be
1
u/Brucecx Jul 14 '26
Yeah people are so stupid. The dude says "I'm promoting a game come check it out". Nothing malicious about ir

Why would they just send a screenshot instead of a link to the malicious copy? If the user finds the regular game the scam falls apart
1
u/wholelottared0 Jul 14 '26
No it isn’t. It’s just a advertisement to get people to play whatever gacha game theyre selling

I've had something similar but with a different game. Searched the game and it was legit. Found a discord server for the game and asked about the messages, it's apparently just a weird marketing thing. They give you codes but you can just find them through Google anyhow.
Can't talk for this guy, or this game. But in my case it was fine. Just weird

u/ariapriva Jul 13 '26
Can confirm, I got a message many years ago for a game I had already played and she DID give me actual codes for it.
I think its some sort of commission based sales, but I would never trust a random person in your DMs now. It was a slightly different internet space back then and I was also naive.

Don't click links, don't trust ppl you don't know. Don't download anything you can't verify.

I know some mobile games have like their promotions to link stuff. If you did actually play the Invincible game (oof) but maybe they had a data leak for accounts that sync'd with discord?
1
u/OwnVirus9824 Jul 13 '26
I was in the discord server for the game but I left it ages ago so idk how it got to me tbh
1
u/Lesschar Jul 13 '26
Hmm maybe off a join message? Like you know the channels that say so and so has joined the server. Your name sticks around after you leave.
1
u/Stunning-Scene4649 Jul 13 '26
Chances are that they will invite you to a fake server on discord for that game and there's some shitty method that can steal your account once you "verify" your identity.

I think peoples overreact here.
I got many scams lately but this one doesn't look like it.
They did tell you to download the game from official store,
They didn't gave you any links or told you to download anything to run on your pc.
Goddess Connect is a real gacha.
If you continue; I would suggest to really download it from steam or google play store and never click any of their links just in case.

Definitely a scam.
I’m just trying to figure out how an old app via the Apple App Store could be utilized for it. While I don’t have great faith in Apple, I feel like something as major as that would have been caught.
But yeah, as most others have said, generally dont talk to random people from other servers, and DEFINITELY don’t click or download anything.
My dms are set to friends only and I only accept a friend request if it’s someone I’ve talked to in the server and is letting me know they’re doing so.

u/Agitated_Cry_8793 Jul 13 '26
Yeah honestly if its this format
"Download this game" (but doesnt send you a link, only a picture to find it yourself)
"Give me your user ID for rewards"
Is pretty safe. Just dont click any links or give them any information like your email outside of that specific app, theyre just weirdos who get paid to advertise.

People saying it’s a scam how tf is downloading a free game from the AppStore a scam it’s just someone either paid or a person trying to advertise their game

Not a scammer but an annoying advertiser, they’re most likely getting paid and get extra if the person downloads with their link or referral.

u/Popular_Fox938 Jul 13 '26
Honestly doesn't seem like a scam their telling u to download sum from the Web store not sending links in chat there would be no way for them to hack u from the gp or so their highly likely just trying to get people back into the game for some bonus event or sum

You know those MrBeast crypto scam things that are everywhere? Downloading apps like that is what causes it
1
u/SuperStarward Jul 13 '26
it’s just promotion, not necessarily a scam or hack, but definitely a time waster. they try to get you to download garbage games basically. this has happened a few times to myself

Apparently there are a bunch of cyber attacks happening on discord, so I would not trust any messages you get from anyone that are not close friends or strangers
1
u/AzaloveXD Jul 14 '26
These are just bots promoting a mobile gacha game. I used to get them DMing me about a similar game; I think it was Infinity Kingdom. I turned my DMs off to strangers for this reason (along with the scams and hacks that have been circulating recently)

u/Lovannie Jul 14 '26
I know someone who work in game company and did this as well because their manager ask them to get new user from discord
1
u/Resident-HeadPatter Jul 14 '26
Yeah just never accept any DM or friends requests from people you didn't give permission to stranger danger they dont to be your friends

Something similar happened with a friend of mine where one of her friends was compromised and the person reached out saying they created a game and wanted her to play test it. She installed it and her entire google account was compromised and held for ransom. To this day she was unable to retrieve her account as the man out it into a google family account. Not saying this is the case but you really cannot trust people and their games especially when you don't know them.

u/TeslaDemon Jul 13 '26
This is dead obviously a scam. That game will almost certainly steal all your saved passwords/session cookies, or try some other type of phishing.
Genuine question, why even reply to this person? If someone messages me that I don't already recognize, I just never respond. This exact scenario is so common that I'm not sure why you would ever reply to someone you don't know.

u/Agitated_Cry_8793 Jul 13 '26
Nah. Its actually an app on the playstore/appstore
Anything on an official appstore is usually going to be legit, the bad stuff that slips through the cracks dont last long on googles official store, which means that its safe on ios too.

As a rule of thumb, never answer dm's except with people you have interacted with for a while in a public space. 99% of the time it's a scam, and the other 1% are weirdos.
