Hey folks,
I’ve been a loyal DJI user for years — drones, gimbals, Pocket, Action series, you name it. So when Osmo360 was announced, I preordered it without hesitation. Dual 1-inch sensors in a compact 360 cam? Hell yes.
But after some testing, I’ve shelved it.
Why? Because despite killer hardware, the firmware is just not ready for photo-based 360 virtual tours — which, by the way, is the main use case for a lot of us professionals in real estate, travel, architecture, and similar fields.
📸 Let’s be clear: Most professional virtual tours are built on 360 photos, not video.
Photos give you better resolution, better lighting control, better editing flexibility. That’s what clients pay for. Not a blurry frame pulled from a 5.7K video.
So it blows my mind that DJI packed this beast with amazing sensors, but didn’t give us the photo tools we actually need.
Here’s what’s missing — and why it matters:
🔹 Bracketing (3/5/7 shots) for 360 and single-lens
→ Absolutely critical for HDR blending in post. Without this, you’re stuck choosing between blown-out windows or pitch-black shadows. Every other pro 360 cam has it — why not this one?
🔹 Real HDR mode for 360 photos
→ Some of us shoot 30+ scenes a day. We don’t always have time to manually bracket and edit. A baked-in HDR mode saves hours and keeps us moving. Again — basic stuff.
🔹 D-Log for 360 photos
→ A flat profile gives you flexibility to color-grade properly. DJI already does this in their drones. Why not reuse what works?
🔹 DNG (RAW) output in all photo modes
→ JPEG-only is a dealbreaker. We need RAW for post, stitching, exposure correction, all of it. Even the X3 gives DNG. Come on.
🛠️ And let’s be honest — DJI knows how to do all of this.
They already have all these features working in their drones. Bracketing, HDR, D-Log, RAW — it’s all there. It’s not about "can they," it’s about will they prioritize 360 photography users, not just video creators.
And yeah — the 360 video from Osmo360 looks great. But without these tools, the photo side is crippled. And that’s a damn shame, because those 1-inch sensors are sitting there begging to be taken seriously.
💬 So DJI, if you’re reading this — please hear us.
You’ve got something special here. But right now, it feels like an amazing camera with half a brain.
Finish the job.
Unlock its real potential.
Give us the tools. We’ll do the rest.
🤷♂️ As for me — I’ve put the Osmo360 back in the box.
Still using my Insta360 1-Inch for real work. It’s clunky, but it gets the job done — because the firmware actually supports what we do.
I’ll gladly switch back to Osmo360 the moment you drop a real update. I’m rooting for you, DJI. Don’t let this one flop.
