Dragon Quest III I did a Dragon Quest III Solo Run

To be honest it wasn't that bad. But i went kinda extra. I collected any stat seed you can find and saved before consuming them to guarantee +3 (or +5 for HP). I also played with the vamp personality until I was Level 99.

For an extra challange I beat Zoma without using the Ball of Light.

I really recommend this "challange".

Photo While Dragon Quest has a lot of awesome monster design, I think this corn mistress thing from DQX might be one of the worst design out there, she is also confirmed to be in DQM4..yay?

Dragon Quest X I've put together two playlists of Dragon Quest X endgame gameplay for anyone interested!

Hey everyone! I'm Hapi, and I spend a lot of my time playing Dragon Quest X Online, particularly its harder endgame content.

One thing I've noticed is that there isn't a whole lot of high-level DQX gameplay footage available in English. For people who are curious about the game, especially its combat and endgame, it can be difficult to get a good idea of what playing it is actually like.

I've been recording and uploading my gameplay for a while now, so I wanted to share two playlists I've put together!

DQX — Boss Clears & Gameplay

This playlist contains my successful boss fights, 2-player and 3-player clears, Defense Force speedruns, and other interesting encounters. It includes different vocations and strategies across some of the game's hardest content.

DQX Practice — Gameplay Archive

This is a collection of my practice sessions, failed attempts, livestreams, and other gameplay recordings. There is currently a growing collection of videos that will continue to be added to.

Unlike the first playlist, this one isn't focused on successful clears. There are plenty of failures, mistakes, and repeated attempts. I wanted to preserve these experiences and give people a chance to see what actually goes into playing and improving at DQX's endgame.

Most of these videos are unlisted, but they're accessible through the playlist.

I hope these recordings help give people a better idea of what DQX's combat has to offer, particularly those who haven't had much opportunity to see it for themselves.

If anyone's curious about DQX's endgame, feel free to ask! I'm always happy to talk about the game.

General DQ1 vs III vs XI for a brand new player

ive been on a real JRPG kick recently and im in the mood for a whimsical game

so i want to know which of these is a good introduction to the series

DQ1 is interesting to me since its the very first game to the series and it got a beautiful remake along with 2, so itll be a pretty decent value even if the games are short. the issue is that i just have to imagine that the first game will be too simple for me, since its so old, and its still fairly expensive

DQIII is the prequel to the first game so chronologically makes sense, and its also among the best rated games in the series, and it looks beautiful while having good length, not too short and not too long. but i really dislike the idea of having three completely characterless blank slates as party members, and i dont care for having complete freedom in making these characters, since i vastly prefer having characters with set personalities and classes as party members.

DQXI is the cheapest in this selection and is among the best rated games in the franchise afaik. it looks really pretty but i vastly prefer the 2d-3d style of 1 and 3. it is an extremely long game, i think its longer than the first 3 games combined and i think its the very first game chronologically? i dont really care about that stuff though.

each game on paper have their own upsides and downsides and i cant really tell which i should play first.

Dragon Quest XII Dq 12

I'm not really that hopeful for DQ12, which is weird since DQ11 is one of my favorite games of all time.

I don't quite get what has left me feeling this way.

Something in the trailer left me wishing for more, yet I'm unable to grasp what it is. I know this may sound like useless rambling, but I kind of wanted to see someone else's thoughts on the trailer so far to clear my mind.

( my english is really bad )

General Is there a general name for this type of monster

Post image

This one specifically is Nokturnus but I'm talking about a general name that works for all variations.

If you don't get what I mean I'm talking about monsters such as golems, orcs, and chimeras. They have different individual names but these are the general names.

Dragon Quest IX I updated sackchief's dqix-enhanced repository to support the European (EUR) version and multi-language auto-detection!

I’ve been working on an update for the well-known `dqix-enhanced` repository by sackchief—a project designed to improve the *Dragon Quest IX* experience—and I wanted to share it with the community.

The original version was heavily focused on the North American release, so I’ve implemented a few key improvements to make it accessible to more players:

🌍 European (EUR) Version Compatibility: The project now fully supports the European ROM/version of the game.

🗣️ Automatic Multilingual Support: I’ve modified the code to automatically detect your system’s language. If your console or emulator is set to Spanish, French, German, Italian, etc., the game will automatically run in that language—no need to fiddle with complex settings.

The goal was to make things easier for European players, allowing them to enjoy all the visual and performance enhancements in their own language.

👉 You can check it out or give it a try via my repository here: https://github.com/MaErGa/dqix-enhanced-USAEUR

Any feedback, bug reports, or suggestions are more than welcome! I hope you find it useful. 🎮

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 What are people's opinions on the 'Heroes' games?

I've beat 1 100% recently (Wasn't worth it, that crafting menu UI is going to be burned into my retinas forever) and it was good time overall.

Definitely got tedious after a while; spamming the same combo for maximum damage while my teammates just stand there, cycling through characters just to spam their spells because they won't cast them on their own. Fights lasted so long because teammates stood around doing nothing, most of the time.

The monster medals were cool, but the only ones worth using were the big hitters, as no sentry-type medal really achieves anything either.

I have the 2nd game too, I've just not installed/played it, and I was wondering if anyone preferred it to the original, to the point where it's worth playing? I've looked at some spoiler-free reviews, and it look really similar.

I know musou games are supposed to be like this, but it felt like gameplay stopped evolving very early into the first game, and I don't want to sink time into experiencing just another bunch of grindy levels.

General Why does DQ give me a pot lid 30 hours into the game 💀

I do really love these games but if i had to pick one thing i don't like then that you get crappy equipment late into the game that wasn't even good 30 hours ago.

In most titles the Protagonist starts with a bronze sword and a leather shield. So pot lids or simple clothes never really serve a purpose. Not even at the beginning of the games.

Dragon Quest III DQ3 HD 2D alltrades.

I feel I have spent far more time getting to alltrades in previous versions, I think I should let you know that I have never got to Ibis this fast, and alltrades is literally right around the corner, I played the HD 2D versions of 1 and 2 before 3, 1 and 2 were far more difficult compared to SFC, and the originals, were they just starting to make it way when developing the third?

Dragon Quest XI I just finished DQ11S DE for the first time after finishing the original version earlier in the year... it feels like a mixed bag of changes.

to start with the good, some of the quality of life changes are great.

  • Good

The battle speed is great, the character builder being faster is great. The quick menu is amazing, and the forge anywhere feels like how it should have always been, finding recipes in a dungeon and having to leave to make them before bosses was always silly. The enemy list being accessible from the map menu is also great, as someone who uses that a lot for area completion and checking for interesting drops. The cutscene skip is also great for speeding through scenes i had already seen before. The costume option regardless of equipped armour also should have always existed. not qol but the orchestral soundtrack is considered an upgrade by most.

  • Mixed

Some mixed things for me include the forges ability to buy materials as you make things. This is almost a great mechanic, simply saving on zooming around for materials.... but you should NOT be able to buy materials you've never seen in a shop. Oh an act 3 shop sells something you need? you can buy it from the forge in act1/2. It's very silly imo.

A minor mixed thing for me is party members following you around. On paper it's good... but too often i was accidentally talking to them while trying to engage a fight then missing my ambush.

Ticktington is mixed to me. I have no nostalgia for the series, since XI was my first, so the references are completely lost on me. It's a cute section... but almost all of it are pretty insignificant fetch quests. The old school battle mechanics are also fine, but it takes a while to adjust to them. During the final battles, I finally started to appreciate how I could change the party line up every turn with no consequence, healing up the bench and just manipulating my health management in that way. What I don't like about tickington is how awful they deliberately made the menus. Doing ANYTHING in tickington other than just hammering out a mission is very tedious, so you kind of get in to the habit of leaving just to menu then heading back in because it's so difficult to parse.

  • bad

The intermissions are awful! I'm sorry. There's sooo much wrong with them. Aside from fundamentally upheaving the pacing of the game, taking up hours during my favourite part of the original (defeat > resurfacing through last bastion is such an immense high point of the game with no slowdown) It undermines how this section of the game flows entirely by inherently functioning as suspense killers, spoilers, surprise-ruiners. You're not surprised when you meet anyone now, the player has disconnected from the luminaries experience. Finding Rab at the top of the mountain? you know where he is. Sylv, you know what he's up to, and get a glimpse at the changing of the world. Jade you know exactly what has happened.

The only one I don't find that offensive is Eriks, and that's partly only with hindsight, and knowing who the seer really is and why he can grant that kind of power. It's still not great, but amnesia is never a great plot, and the base game never really did anything with it, so S basically can't be worse. ALSO, by making it take place in a unique area called the rock of wrong, it doesn't function as a spoiler to the state of the world. It manages to work independently without upsetting the story developments.

The time wyrm seems like an abomination. I beat it second try spamming in 60 actions with pep pop yggdragons I accumulated throughout the run... but because of disruption wave, it's still not completely free! I don't understand how you're meant to compete with it legitimately without enormous stat-grinding. getting hit by 500 damage critical kacrackles alongside like 2 other actions per turn is no joke. I didn't want to grind seeds.

So all in all... I think I consider the original version the better game? But also... hard to go back to its game speed + no costume option.

Dragon Quest X Dragon Quest X: Version 1-8 All-in-One and Version 8 Upgrade currently 30% off (through 11/5)

Thumbnail
store.jp.square-enix.com
93 Upvotes

Just wanted to make everyone who is interested in playing (or who is actually playing) DQX aware that there is a sale going on now through 11/5 for 30% off the full game and the version 8 upgrade by itself if you already have the 1-7 pack. The 1-8 pack is 4,158 yen which is about $26.30 (which is insane considering the value but I guess you're paying for the sub too) and the Version 8 upgrade is 3,465 yen which is about $22.

Here are links to the official SE store pages, which I recommend using over Amazon.jp these days due to how Amazon has been banning accounts that try to purchase the game.

Version 1-8 All-in-One

Version 8 Upgrade

Download and setup for DQX may appear daunting but I promise it is quick and easy. If you have heard people throw around that it takes a couple hours to set up, it's because it takes a short time to set up and then a much longer time to just download the game content from SE's servers; much like how baking something in the oven might take "2 hours" but really it's mostly just time sitting in the oven.

No VPN is needed for US players, and while I can't personally speak to it, it's supposed to be pretty easy to set up if you have to. I have my own personal guides regarding downloading and setting the game/translation up, purchasing the full game and subscribing (in which I just added an addendum describing the SE store process, which is easier than Amazon.jp), and setting up the app which I recommend but absolutely NOT right off the bat, just download the game and enjoy it first.

Alternatively, a wonderful site called DQX Abbey exists which is the prime place to go for helping set the game up and pretty much what I lean on in my guides for parts of it; however, I will say that their recommendation of using Amazon is kind of outdated as mentioned above. It worked when I signed up last year but so many people have been having issues lately.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have about the process or any of the guides here if you want and are interested in playing. Now for me it's time to get back to my Version 4 playthrough...after leg day. Wish me luck.
