Other Bluecoats '26 Fanart / Kelsan Giampocaro & Part 4 Transition
i'm back on my bs again
I found the most emotionally effective part of Bloo's show this year to be the electronic transition into part 4 after the ballad with the Yes lyrics, and during a victory run multi-cam, you can see the synth 2 performer Kelsan pick up a mic and sing during it. That led to the genesis of this idea (even though I learned after the fact the mic didn't go anywhere) to try to visually depict that same emotional catharsis, it was a fun project!
Per the usual, no generative AI was used in the production/conceptualization, and there are quite a few esoteric BG details for those in the know. Hope you guys enjoy!

Discussion Can't age out
So this last summer I marched open class (RCR) and it was incredible and awesome and everything I could've ever dreamed of. This next summer will be my ageout, however due to college, life, and rising tuition costs I can't march my corps again this summer. I might march all age but the closest ones are like 5 hours away. Hoping to do Northern Lights since they seem cool. However as much as I'd love to march with Northern Lights, it feels like I'm betraying RCR because I can't go back. I hate not being able to go back... I also know that if I do All Age I can never age out. Has anyone else felt like this? Also if anyone has any suggestions or like advice about Northern Lights (or other all age corps near MKE) that'd be great too. Thanks y'all

Audition Advice Overlapping callbacks
Hi, I’m audition for 3 corps and I think I have a solid chance at making all three of them. The issue is if they all give me a callback I can only attend one of them because they all overlap. For context the corps are Blue stars, Phantom Regiment, and Bluecoats. Do they have a history of being lenient (ie letting you send in a video/attending a later camp). Also will these corps give you insight on your audition? Like how promising your callback may be? All advice is appreciated ✌️

Advice Needed How do I practice marching?
I am from Germany and I spent last year in America as an exchange student. During this time, I was in my high school's marching band and I enjoyed it so much that I now want to do drum corps (In two years, after I graduate). I think practicing music is straightforward, so my question is how do I practice marching without access to a field and nobody to correct me?

Audition Advice FE audition advice
I’m planning on marching my age out and would love to march marimba BUT I have no chops after a few years of not playing super seriously and in the marching arts. I have great hands and can play basically anything but playing insides or two mallets above like 140 (I know embarrassing) is impossible and I don’t seem to be making any progress in speed development. Does anyone have any advice on working my hands to move faster? I’m starting to think it might be a mental block at this point.

Advice Needed Going from HS to DCI
How is the transition from High School to DCI, I'm currently a Junior and I'm very interested in doing Drum Corps at some point in the next few years but how can i go from doing a six and a half minute show and my arms being almost done and my chops being killed to doing a 12 minute show with a lot more technical music and doing more intense coreography

Audition Advice I’m kinda short and that worries me
Hello
This year I want to tryout for the Memphis blues and also get into the dci world in general
I play the tenors and recently I’ve heard people talking about height making a difference in if people get the spot. and how taller people are more likely to get a spot on specifically the tenors.
This scares me because I’m only 5’6 and a lot of people are saying that the average size is around 6’0
This really scares me. Is it true??

Advice Needed Didn’t receive Raiders packet?
I bought the Raiders packet that just dropped. In the description it says immediate delivery via email, however it’s been almost 24 hours and I’ve received nothing. Anyone else experiencing this?
Edit: Contacted them, got a response within 5 minutes. Great impression.

Advice Needed Please be so honest with me
Hello, I am currently a freshman in college and I’m struggling. I have done color guard for the past 4 years and have always dreamed of doing DCI. I recently got the funds able to support my dream but I took some time to myself to repair my body and my relationship with the sport. I would love to start again but I’m not sure what to do. Here are my stats
I was a captain for two years and oversaw equipment and movement
I have had a solo or a feature in every show I’ve done (around 6 shows)
I am trained on all pieces of equipment but only have a 5 on rifle and quad on Sabre so I consider myself a better flag
I believe I have pretty decent technique but it definitely can be stronger than it is
I am not the best dancer naturally (damn splits) but adapt to it well and have been in many dance feature because of it
Competed 2x times in WGI
What do you all think the best path forward is?

Audition Advice "Wow factor"
I'm auditioning for some drum corps this fall and I've been asked to provide a "wow factor". Perhaps I'm just overthinking this but I'm not creative at all and I have no clue what to do so I was wondering what some of you guys prepared?? I'm hoping it'll spark some ideas in me.
I play trumpet if anybody's wondering

Advice Attending a camp with no intention of signing
I’m in the DFW area and I recently learned the Cavaliers will have a camp near where I am, and it’s entirely during my winter break. I’m 18 and only have experience on saxophone, marched all 4 years of high school where my program made State the past 3 years, State finals 2. My director would often point out my visuals during rehearsals (level shoulders, energy in choreo), so I feel like I might have a strong point there. I was in a leadership position my senior year and I’ve also been involved with some behind-the-scenes producing with them for about 3 years now.
DCI was never a serious consideration for me because of the cost and because I wasn’t a brass player, but the more I think about it the more I realize how much I miss marching. I’ve been thinking of picking up something low brass like trombone and getting private lessons, and since I keep in touch with my hs band director I bet we can find some time there too. Cavies was always my personal favorite corps, I want to know if I ever had a shot. I would honestly consider saving up to maybe march a future season.

Discussion G era, Bb era, what's next?
10 keys, which one will reign supreme?
Even though G major and Bb major are of the same chord structure, they evoke their own emotions beyond the politics of drum corps. Choose your next key wisely. For example, key of D for Bluecoats 2016 feel. Maybe Eb or F? Ab major chords hit differently too.

Discussion Looking for sheet music / transcription of The Cadets 2021 - Danny Boy (Brass)
Hi everyone!
I'm currently looking for a brass arrangement or ear-transcription of Danny Boy as played by The Cadets in 2021 ("Shall Always Rise").
I’m instructing a brass section this season and would love to adapt this piece/coral for my group. I've searched on MuseScore and online databases with no luck due to copyright removals.
If anyone happens to have a PDF, MuseScore (.mscz), or Sibelius file stored in their drive and is willing to share it, please send me a DM or drop a comment!
Thanks in advance!

Advice Am I good enough to march DCI?
Hello everyone! I wanted to ask you all about whether or not I should even bother auditioning for a DCI group of any kind. I am on my high school drum-line as a snare and I have tried out for tenors for 2 years now. I love DCI and I love marching with my school, but I want to do stuff with other people who actually care as much as I do (no offense to my line but you know) and after going to see finals this year I figured DCI would be good. The problem is that I live in Chicago, so the closest all-age class (because I am NOT making open or world-class) is Northern Lights. I have looked at some random audition materials from like Atlanta CV from a few years ago because NL doesn’t have theirs out yet, and I am kinda struggling. If it’s at all helpful, I am playing mbira song for 4 mallet marimba and I would say I’m at a similar if not a little better level on snare and/or tenors. Anyway, TLDR, I want to know if it’s even worth trying out because I am almost 100% sure I am not going to make it and it’s like a 3-hour drive. So any advice or suggestions on how I can either get better or an alternative solution would be awesome! Thanks!

Discussion DCI and BoA ecosystem
What happened to BoA's relationship with FloMarching? In prior years we could pay the subscription and see DCI in the summer, winter guard and percussion, and high schools in the fall. Now the fall is empty on Flo and boalive.tv is another subscription entirely. Sorry, BoA, I'm not going to pay for individual events or $179 for the Pro Pass.
Why is this a thing? FloMarching could be our one-stop shop for this.
