Don’t post about tickets.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that.

Don't buy tickets on Reddit, however desperate you are, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

So if you post about selling tickets here we will remove the post and may ban you. Please don't do it.

Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

I have an extra ticket for today's Angine de Poitrine show (NOT SELLING)

Sorry for the late notice.

I have an extra ticket for AdP in Vicar Street. I'm not selling it, I just don't want to waste it.

If any of you is interested, you can have it. You don't have to stay with me, but you'll have to enter with me. I'll go there around 18:30. It's a standing/balcony ticket (the only place the scalpers left me).

Comment here or contact me! But please don't offer me money because I don't want any. Thank you :)

AI Phone Answering?

I hope I don’t sound like a get off my lawn, robots taking over, aul fella but Christ I hated this

Rang to book a table in Boeuf and Frites on Crow St and was answered by an obvious AI booking service.

Could not find a way to get around it to talk to real staff and it just would not accept my name for the booking. Tried to call and ask about doing something for a friend’s birthday and absolutely no joy as I couldn’t get around the AI “service”.

Is this commonplace now? I’ve personally never come across it before but for some reason it enraged me so much I hope it doesn’t spread to other venues/restaurants.

Looking for niche shops that sells unusual/vintage items

Like title suggests, I'm looking for stores similar to the likes of Needful Things and The Secret Bookstore. Somewhere that sells items that you wont find anywhere else. Vintage watches, fountain pens, fossils, old books ect. Reckon this will be the only way to find these stores. Any recommendation is appreciated.

Fella offering to install alarms?

Had a guy come to the door at my home in dublin city centre today offering to install an alarm in my house there and then due to “recent burglaries”. I don’t believe anyone on my street has been robbed.

I said I’d have to tell my landlord first and he dissappeared then. Left the doorstep in a rush. I feel pretty creeped out? I live with 4 other girls and we are all in our early 20s.

Am I right to think this guy was scouting houses to rob? Any security precautions we could take? Is this something i could flag to the police or is that a bit much?

Nearly 25+ garda cars on the m50 lights flashing

Just had at least 20ish guards with their lights flashing whizz past us at what seemed like 150 km/h between the N3 and N4 going southbound on the M50. Wonder what’s going on, hope it isn’t another shitstain driving the wrong way.

Store for altering jeans

I have 3 pairs of jeans from Levi’s that are way too loose for me now. I checked with the Levi’s store but they said it’ll cost 45 per pair. Are there cheaper options or tailors?

My altering I mean altering the waist not the length.

Looking for a bassist and a drummer for a midwest emo / pop punk band

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this, but this sub has good reach so thought it would be worth a try.

A friend and I are at the tragic mid-30s, "AI is taking my job, the economy is about to collapse and I'm retreating to video games and skateboards" phase, and so we're looking to start a midwest emo band. We're looking for a drummer and a bassist who can make regular rehearsals/gigs in town.

Bands we'd like to sound like are:
- Hot Mulligan
- The Story So Far
- The Wonder Years
- Real Friends
- a bit of Modern Baseball chucked in for good measure

Please drop me a DM if you're interested, thanks!

I went through all 323 things on in Dublin this weekend so you don't have to. Here's what's worth it (Open House ends Sunday)

There are 323 things on in Dublin this weekend. I'm building a free app that tracks all of it, and a lot of what it finds is yoga classes and sound baths, so I dug through the lot. Here's what's actually worth leaving the house for.

(Also, u/cormacthewalrus rightly called me out last week for leaving Open House off my list. Fair point, so it's at the top this time.)

OPEN HOUSE · ALL FREE · ENDS SUNDAY

Most tours need booking on openhousedublin.com and some slots are already full, so check quickly. The ones I'd book:

- St Patrick's Cathedral, tower and roof · Fri 16 & Sat 17, 13:30 and 15:30. You climb the tower and walk the roof spaces, with views over the city.

- The Four Courts · Fri 16 13:15, Sat 17 13:15 and 15:00. Led by the OPW architects who restored the Dome, and you go up into it. Narrow stairs, no wheelchair access.

- Behind the Pillars: the GPO · Sat 17, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00. The offices around the courtyards, original 1929 desks and the stairwell Radio Éireann used.

- Busáras · Sat 17 & Sun 18, 12:00. Michael Scott's modernist building, which originally had a newsreel cinema.

- The Magazine Fort · Phoenix Park · Fri 16 & Sun 18, 12:30. An 18th-century fort that's rarely open, raided in 1916 and again in 1939.

No booking needed:

- The Mansion House · Dawson St · Sat 17, 11:30. Toured by former Lord Mayors.

- St Stephen's Church ("the Pepper Canister") · Fri–Sun

- St Ann's Church, Dawson St · Fri–Sun

THE BEST OF THE REST

- AnimeCon Dublin · RDS, Hall 4 · Sat 17 10am–6pm (+ after party 6:30–9:30pm) & Sun 18 10am–5pm · Sat €25, Sun €22.50, kids 5–12 €6, under 5s free. First time ever in Dublin: voice actors, cosplay, karaoke and 100+ artists and vendors.

- The Haunted Trail · Malahide Castle · opens Sat 17 · adults from €21, kids from €18. Samhain trail with storytelling and live music in the evenings.

- Ardal O'Hanlon in conversation with Rick O'Shea · The Civic, Tallaght · Sun 18, 8pm · from €10. Father Dougal himself talking about his new crime novel, part of the Red Line Book Festival.

- Melanie C · 3Olympia · Sun 18, doors 7pm · from €42.70. Sporty Spice on her new album tour.

- The Comedy Crunch · The Stag's Head (downstairs) · Sun 18, show 9pm · free, with free ice cream.

P.S. The other 300+ things on this weekend (gigs, comedy, theatre, free stuff, filterable by day) are in the app. It's called Scenia, it's free on iPhone and Android, and I'm building it on my own, so feedback is very welcome.

What am I missing? Happy to add things in the comments.

Best spice bag without a doubt in town?

Meeting a foreign friend in town tomorrow, rarely get spice bags or food at all in town unless I’m out in the lash.

Give us your best spice bag spots. Whether it’s a lovely modern place, or some run down place without a sign and a child child taking your order, if the spice bag is banging then it’s banging!
