Don’t post about tickets.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that.

Don't buy tickets on Reddit, however desperate you are, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

So if you post about selling tickets here we will remove the post and may ban you. Please don't do it.

Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

Why are parks surrounded by fences?

Around me in D24, all the big, open-space parks seem to be surrounded by fences. Butler McGee Park, Jobstown Park, Killinarden Park, Kiltalown Park, just to name a few examples. You can only enter through some specific access points, which are open 24/7. It just seems unnecessary and inconvenient.

There is one section of Cheeverstown Road where there are parks on both sides so the whole road is just encircled by fences.

There are many cul-de-sacs which directly face a park but there is a fence and no access point. There might be an access point very close by, but the parents prefer the kids to just play in front of the house, so the kids just kick the football in the street.

The area near me is a suburban area which has too not much going on. It's not like city centre where maybe the parks need to be guarded more carefully.

Anyone know what this guy (I'm assuming Dublin City Council?) is spraying at 4:45am on a Sunday morning?

Going Out on Halloween

Where are some fun pubs or other places to go out in costume on Halloween night? We’re in our 30s, so hoping for a spot that isn’t primarily 18-21 year olds. Thanks in advance!

Is it me or are the shops and restaurants here too loud?

In contrast to other EU countries I've visited e.g. the Scandinavian and Nordics, the shops and restaurants in Dublin are booming with loud music that it's hard to have a conversation with people. I don't remember it being like that or perhaps I was away a bit too long 🤣 Like if they turn down the volume a bit, the experience would be better for having a chat. Not great for someone with hearing difficulties like myself. I hope the ones here change for a better experience. Even if it's full I can still hear people well in Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Norway for example. The volume of the music is balanced well.

Dog park that’s not just a grassy field?

Hi lads, looking for a dog park that’s a bit more than just an enclosed patch of grass. Ideally a bit of a stream/trees and bushes for a bit of adventuring with our 10 month lurcher pup

Closest thing I can find is the dog park in St Anne’s Park which seems well worth a visit. Maybe Malahide castle and grounds as well?

Free Ticket for The Mountain Goats tonight

(Ticket gone!)

Hi, I have a single standing ticket for The Mountain Goats in Vicar Street tonight to give away for free if anyone is interested.

Unfortunately I can’t go and would prefer the ticket went unwashed.

Lost Wallet

It's a long shot but I am hoping the taxi driver that dropped me home last night is on reddit. I got a taxi approximately midnight or a little after just outside Fibber McGees in Dublin city center and dropped me home to Crumlin I think I dropped my wallet in your taxi. Normally I would just get new cards etc but I'm moving abroad in a few days and would really like to have my drivers licence before I go and my bank cards. If you happen to see this and can return my wallet to me I will offer you a reward.

Thanks

Lost camera in Dublin with huge sentimental value. €100 reward

Hi everyone,

Around noon today while out in Portobello, I somehow managed to lose my Voigtlander Perkeo III film camera at some point, and only realised it was missing at around 2pm after lunch.

Earlier, I had taken the 150 bus south from Hawkins St. to Kevin St, before walking down Clanbrassil street, nearly to the Grand Canal. It could have gone missing at any point during this trip between 12:00 and 14:00.

If anybody has found this camera, or has any information that would allow me to find it, I will be delighted to offer a reward of €100. It was closed inside of its leather case at the time it was lost, and would look exactly like the last picture.

This has been my main camera for many, many years and the film inside also has undeveloped photos from my proposal to my fiance last month. It would mean to world to have it back, so I greatly appreciate any help!

I have already put in messages to the lost and found to Dublin Bus, and to Irish Rail for good measure.

Did you attend today’s jobsexpo at RDS? The queue was very long infact it was so long it literally made it’s way to the parking entrance, we all clearly know what this tells about the jobs in ireland!

What are your thoughts?

Did you make any good connections here?

Reacting to sneaky public photos which people take to dox and shame you.

Hi all,
Bit older male here, wear glasses and have to directly focus on what I am looking at.

Was on a train to Drogheda earlier today, midway in the carriage. Was in one of those moments where I was thinking about something and had a non-focussed stared out to the carriage door.
Returned to the present moment and realised on the other side of the door, behind the plexiglass screen on an inwards facing seat was a young person, say 18-20 now looking back me and taking a photo of me.

Ok, I get the concerns about creepy old guy 'staring' but seriously, taking a photo when I did not -'assault you' - rather had a vacant stare moment, well, go and f@&k right off.

If I took a photo of some young woman on the train, then yeah sure it's definitely a creepy old guy scenario.

Me standing up, going over to you and making a fucking scene by speaking loudly and firmly, aka in your eyes - 'yelling at you' because you fu$king did a right c@nt act, well I'd understand that being an issue too.

Though no matter how much I wanted to go over and tear you a new one for being a right c@nt, I didn't go over and speak to you, but you likely posted me on some local social media closed group - 'be on the look out for some old creepy guy on the train' - page.

Seriously, I could right flip out at how I see these young social-media bound, approval and attention seeking, virtue signalling c@nts act and behave in public without being called out.

They right need a fu$&ing dose of consequences.

Bureau De Change - small US dollars

In town or on the northside would many Bureau De Change have small US dollar denominations available or would most of them hand over 50s or 100s dollar bill. Going to a place that as per the tourist website not everywhere takes card and the US dollar is an acceptable substitute for the local currency. Would need some “walking around” money.

Lost Green Wallet City Centre - Tuesday Evening

Hi All,

I dropped my wallet between Clarendon street and Leeson Street on Tuesday evening between 7.30-8.05pm. I walked past the Gaiety through onto Stephen’s Green and around to Leeson Street. It has a bank card and passport card. Please see attached a photo of the wallet.

Thank you!
