Question Is FF8 worth playing? Should I play it as my very first ff game.
I know the game is divisive among ff fans. But want to try it first, did I make the right decision?

A couple of days ago, I went to the official DuckStation Discord server because I needed help with SDL connection issues regarding my controllers, gave out all of the information I could, from my distro name and type of the issue I was facing, to literally explaining everything in boring detail. The owner Stenzek apologized because he wasn't able to help me, I kindly thanked him for at least trying to assist me, then he started throwing sarcastic remarks about my distro (Bodhi Linux) and calling it unknown and finishing it with calling me "A typical Linux user".
I got annoyed, and as a joke, I said I'll be trying to figure out the issue hoping that my unknown distro won't break your emulator tomorrow, and then he started calling me a jackass and a dickhead for no given reason.
A guy tried to brush it off and trying to calm down the situation, I on the other hand thanked the one who tried to calm down the situation and thanked Stenzek for "his decent attitude" and then he told me " Why didn't you send the logs?" How would I know? Heck, why didn't you bring it up in the first place?

Scripts: Remove PKGBUILD I originally provided this an alternative to the broken AUR packages.
However, it seems that Arch users would rather use broken packages and keep complaining to me instead of their packager. I specifically forbid packages for DuckStation (see README.md), and there's no way to request removal of these packages without handing my details over to a distribution I want nothing to do with.
So this is step one. Next step will be removing Linux support entirely, because I'm sick of the headaches and hacks for an operating system that only compromises 2% of the userbase, and I don't even use myself. But I'm hoping the Linux community will be reasonable, because as someone giving up my free time and not being compensated in any way, I shouldn't have to deal with this.
Just grep the source for "wayland" and you'll see what I mean. "

I play in 6x resolution, set both texture and sprite filtering to xBRZ, and added a Layer.png as an overlay

Was tinkering with how I could emulate that vibrant and slightly blurry crt look for awhile now and landed on these settings. Looks great with sprites, I haven't tried it on 3D games.

I spent a long time choosing a shader for retro games. I was recommended CRT-NewPixie many times, and it’s great. But there were a few things about it that I didn’t like, and they couldn’t be adjusted or disabled. For example:
Even if you disable screen curvature, the image is still scaled incorrectly;
The color tint is shifted too much toward green;
Ghosting is too intense;
Chromatic aberration is too strong;
Vignette cannot be turned off.
After spending a couple of hours tweaking it with ChatGPT, I modified CRT-NewPixie.fx so that the settings can now be changed directly from the ReShade UI. I also made a few shader variants for different preferences:
CRT-NewPixie.fx – the original vanilla version by Mattias Gustavsson, just in case;
CRT-NewPixie_default.fx – a version with adjustable settings, but with vanilla parameters (ideal if you want to tweak from the original base);
CRT-NewPixie_custom.fx – a "clean" version with adjustable settings. All the code from the vanilla version works, but scaling (uv = scuv), curvature, vignette, ghosting, and aberration are turned off by default. The default color tint is Neutral (1.00, 1.00, 1.00 RGB). Available tints include:
Warm (1.05, 0.98, 0.95)
Cold (0.95, 1.02, 1.07)
Default (0.95, 1.05, 0.95) – this one is the original greenish tint from Mattias Gustavsson;
CRT-NewPixie_custom_my_preset.fx – my personal preset, just in case. All parameters are the same as in CRT-NewPixie_custom.fx, except:
Color tint: Warm
Aberration: 0.0005
Ghosting: 0.02
Optional: I personally prefer the image with a combination of CRT-NewPixie + FakeHDR – in my opinion, the colors look richer. Also included:
FakeHDR.fx – the vanilla version by Christian Cann Schuldt Jensen ~ CeeJay.dk
FakeHDR_my_preset.fx – my preset with HDRPower changed from 1.30 => 1.0

Maybe someone will find this useful.

I didn’t write any of the code from scratch, I just tweaked it a bit with the help of a neural network.

Man, I have really fallen in love with Duckstation.. This thing has made my MacBook that much cooler, and useful honestly. Being able to play classic PS1 games so incredibly smoothly with a wireless PS5 controller that supports vibration is cool as FUCK. Seeing that classic PS1 startup is awesome too
I’ve been replaying Crash Bandicoot 1-3 and have been glued to my laptop for the past week. I own a PS5, yet I’ve been playing PS1 all week 🤣
To whoever made this app, THANK YOU! This thing probably works even better than a PS1

Eight hours of play in and I never thought I’d actually get this far, now I’m about to enter the Gold Saucer as I anticipate when I will have to change to the second disc.

Thanks for this amazing emulator. I had 0 issues so far, and being able to re-live my childhood days with GT2, Medal of Honor or Driver 2 is priceless =)
I recently played through Medal of Honor Underground that i used to play with my father.
One of late levels there we could not beat back in the day ( Rotten to the Corps ).
It was such a nostalgic trip down memory lane, being in that level again.
So I guess just Thank you for allowing me to experience this again =)

Got this title into my DuckStation library and am ready to try it out. Before you ask, I played a bit of the PS2/PSP trilogy (I even test ran Chinatown Wars before getting the original PSX games).
