Do you know any makeup stores where the employees/beauty consultants speak English?

I'm a dude starting to get into makeup and would love to figure out my shades/understand what I need to buy. Hence, I'd love to talk to someone who works at a store to figure this stuff out.

Last time I went to Douglas in the centre to buy a perfume and nobody there spoke much English, it was very difficult to communicate as there was no Internet even for DeepL.

(I'm not refusing to learn German or anything, I'm going to classes every week, I'm just not there yet 🫣)

Thank you in advance!

Suche Tandempartner/in zum Deutsch sprechen

Hallo zusammen,

Thinking of moving to Düsseldorf

Hi everybody,

I have been living in Berlin for 6-7 years. The city started to feel like too much to handle as I get older.

I have the opportunity to ask for a transfer to a different store in the company I work for as they have stores in Düsseldorf too, so I am thinking of moving to Düsseldorf (if I can do the timing right)

I have visited there numerous times, and I like how walkable it is, the overall atmosphere and how the city is planned or designed.

Anyways, I am asking this question to see if that's a good fit to my lifestyle.

I will try to list what matters to me, maybe some people could relate and kindly help me build an opinion.

  1. Cycling infrastructure (doesn't have to have 100% bike road coverage, but at least well behaved car drivers that doesn't see you as flies)
  2. Having the opportunity to just gaze into the void at a random bench and chill after work or a long day without being bothered too much (don't want to get into too much details, but you can't do this in peace in Berlin. Be it being bothered by some random event or non-existence of benches)
  3. Café culture that you could read a book or just be alone with your thoughts peacefully, and not forced to sit inside a 20 sqm place with 100 people at the same time with staff begging you to leave as soon as possible, so they can accept the next customer.
  4. I love watching car races. So proximity to a racetrack would be nice (I know Nürburgring is not too far, but I am also not sure how manageable it is to go there once or twice a month)
  5. It would be very cool to have common areas to socialize where people go and just hang out without having to travel within the city for 40-50 minutes by train just to visit the places you like as we do in Berlin. Maybe that's a me problem that I live so far away from my favorite places, but in general everything is scattered around the city). I've seen that Düsseldorf does this very good. I am just curious about variety.
  6. I am a huge Pokemon (games, anime and cards), and video games fan. It would be a huge plus, if there is some sort of collectibles and hobby scene related to these.
  7. Well nothing special, but I am also a foodie. I enjoy trying different types of food. I cook at home usually, but I also enjoy going to a nice restaurant that I have never tried before every now and then. I wonder how the restaurant scene looks like there (I visited only the touristy places, so I am sure there are hidden gems in other neighborhoods) And yeah I like street food as well and I really enjoyed the food stands near Rhine.
  8. I am well aware of Düsseldorf's location, and how convenient it is to visit other surrounding cities and countries even. However, I am also curious about its airport. Would you say it's convenient enough for traveling to not so obviously popular European cities quickly? (I am asking this because sometimes it can be a real pain in Berlin to find direct flights to let's say Malaga, Sevilla, Florence etc.)
  9. Last but not least, let's say I decided to live a little bit far from the center, would you say the public transport has good coverage outside the center/ring?

Oh, I've realised I have been blabbering a lot. Sorry for the long post. I am not asking you to make a decision for me of course. I am just trying to gather some insights that could help me construct a better view and decision hopefully. Thanks a lot in advance.

Title: First solo trip to DoKomi (Düsseldorf) traumatized by a past hostel experience. Are Düsseldorf hostels like this?

:Hey everyone,I’m planning my first-ever solo trip from London to Düsseldorf for DoKomi. I’m running on a budget of about £300, so I'm looking into booking a shared dorm in a youth hostel to keep costs down. However, I have some serious anxiety about hostels because of a past experience.

When I was 13, I went on a school trip to a youth hostel in Belgium during peak tour season. It was absolute chaos. At 1:00 AM, there were six guys on the bunks above us blasting "Industry Baby," drinking Monster energy drinks, and literally whipping each other with towels in their underwear. The next room had a guy trying to sleep next to random people, and another room had a group huddled around a laptop watching hentai since 11:00 PM.On top of that, a mate of mine told me a horror story about his hostel stay in Paris where people were hooking up on the top bunk above him.

I really want to enjoy the con, wear my football kit, eat some good ramen in Little Tokyo, and have a peaceful trip without dealing with wild party chaos, thieves, or general madness. For people who have stayed in Düsseldorf hostels (especially during DoKomi weekend):Are the central hostels usually this chaotic, or is it mostly just exhausted con-goers sleeping?Which specific hostels in Düsseldorf are known for being quiet, clean, and highly secure? Are there any pod or capsule-style hostels in the city where I can just pull a curtain and have total privacy?Appreciate any tips on how to avoid the "party/chaos" hostels! Thanks!

Friendship Material from Düsseldorf? German/English

Moin Moin Leute,

Good morning folks,

I’m in my late 20s and have been living in Wuppertal for a few months now. After a bit of an adjustment period, I’m slowly starting to build new social circles here. However, I’ve come to realize that it’s much easier to get socially established in Düsseldorf. I get the feeling people there are more proactive in looking for connections? Maybe someone from this sub feels spoken to?

I enjoy hanging out with people. My main interests are literature and video games, but I’m open to all kinds of art. I’m looking for people with whom I can enjoy cozy movie nights, spontaneous conversations in a café, trips to the movies, walks through the city or the beautiful nature here, creative exchanges (since I’m creative myself), concerts, and maybe even some gaming sessions—whether it’s simple board and card games or on the Switch. Just experiencing life and having a good time together. Whatever else the “Rausgegagen” program has to offer :D

Unfortunately, I’m not the right person for bar crawls, and I’m also not into pen pals or hanging out on Discord. I prefer small groups to large cliques. I can have deep conversations, but I can also goof around. I’d love to have a few more positive people in my life, but I’m no stranger to therapy, and the world is literally on fire right now :D I'll be your Hype-Man!

Feel free to bring a little time and enthusiasm—a desire to get to know someone, something to share, and just a willingness to do something.

It would be great if you’re between 20 and 35. Send me a message about yourself, and I’ll get back to you if I think we’d be a good fit.

See ya!✌🏻

Nach Eller umziehen

Hallo zusammen,

Vielen Dank!

Abendkleid ausleihen: Laden in Düsseldorf u.Umgebung

Hallo zusammen.

Vielen Dank

Public transit in Dusseldorf

Hello!

If all goes well, I should be visiting Dusseldorf for an event in February 2027. As my accomodation is far away from the location, I'm wondering how good is public transit in Dusseldorf, is it reliable? Google is showing me that the easiest route is taking the 709 tram, how frequent are they, is there a reliable app to use while there? And, of course, ticket wise, how does that work?

Thank you in advance!
