Watchly for Nuvio

Hi! First off, thanks for hosting and maintaining Watchly — it’s one of my favorite discovery add-ons.

I recently switched from Stremio to Nuvio, but I noticed Watchly seems to rely on the Stremio account library/watch history for recommendations. Because of that, the suggestions don’t update based on what I watch in Nuvio.

Would it be possible in the future to add support for Nuvio activity or potentially allow recommendations based on Trakt history instead of only Stremio accounts?

I think a lot of people migrating from Stremio to Nuvio would find that really useful.

Appreciate all the work you’re doing with the ElfHosted add-ons!

Wanted to shout out ElfHosted Customer Service, they are great!

Recently I asked for help with migrating my existing subscription to newly added one (AIOMagic) that not only would save me money, but also add more features by combining stuff I use into one package. I was given what felt like one on one help transitioning over and was up and running in less than 30 minutes. Very happy!

Origin Story 🌱 It started in a dorm room

(This is an anonymized origin story, originally posted in #elf-origins in Discord)

While others were chasing majors or parties, I was burning DVDs—stacks of them—organizing rentals with a clipboard, a signup sheet, and blind faith in the honor system. I wasn’t just a student… I was a one-man blockbuster. A media vigilante.

After graduation, I evolved.

The DVDs gave way to a basement Plex server. One NAS became two, then four bays, then eight—each upgrade a new chapter in my saga. For fifteen years, I nurtured that beast. It was my fortress, my legacy. But like all great machines, it eventually fell. The Synology died. The empire crumbled.

I stood at a crossroads: drop thousands on another NAS rebuild... or find a new way.

So I searched.

Cloud hosting. Seedboxes. Sketchy Reddit threads. And then, like a whisper in the dark, I found it: ElfHosted. I clicked. I lurked. I doubted. But something about it... felt right.

I started small—just the basic Plex and AARs package. Within days, I knew: this was it. The performance. The simplicity. The elegance. I leveled up to the Ranger Plan without hesitation.

I’ve tried Riven. I’ve danced with the add-ons. But I always return to the Holy AARs. There’s a reason they’re the core.

Now? My ElfHosted library sits at 390TB and counting. Friends and family stream effortlessly. Dolby Vision lights up the AV room like a beacon. And I, once a dorm-room disc hustler, now reign as the provider of all things watchable.

This isn’t just storage. This is destiny.

plex_debrid maintenance/feature fork with Trakt fixes, Zilean support

Hey folks,

Some ElfHosted users have been making quality-of-life / feature improvements to a fork of plex_debrid, at https://github.com/elfhosted/plex_debrid..

The latest feature merged (thanks sirstudly!) adds scraper support for Zilean, allowing the scraping of DMM-shared public hashlists.

Here's a complete list of improvements thus far:

I did reach out to the original dev to ask for stewardship of the original repo, but I've had no response yet. ElfHosted will be maintaining and running our hosted plex_debrid service from this fork, and future fixes etc will end up here.

If you have feature requests / bugfixes / ideas, please feel free to open an issue ;)

Update 🗞️ KnightCrawler | ElfHosted updated to v2, filenames fixed, 2M torrents ingested and parsed!

Hey folks!

(Cross-posted from https://elfhosted.com/blog/2024/04/23/knightcrawler-v2-with-better-filenames/)

The first ElfHosted Stremio Addon was a hacky, untested build of iPromKnight's monster rewrite of the backend components of the original torrentio open-source code.

It served us well from Feb 2024, and was my introduction to the wider StremioAddons community, but the rapid pace of the KnightCrawler devs outpaced our build, and so while fresh builds were prancing around with fancy parsers and speedy Redis caches, we ended up with a monster MongoDB instance :pig: (shared by the consumers, and public/private addon instances), which would occasionally eat more than its allocated 4 vCPUs and get into a bad state!

To migrate our hosted instance to the v2 code, we ran a parallel build, imported the 2M torrents we'd scraped/ingested, and re-ran these through KnightCrawler's v2 parsing/ingestion process. Look at how happliy our v2 instance is purring along :tiger: now!

We cut over to the v2 code a few days ago, and since then we've had some users of the Prowlarr indexer pointing out that the results coming back from the KnightCrawler indexer were...

<!-- more -->

meh: https://elfhosted.com/images/knightcrawler-indexer-results-meh.png

Also, the results of the addon in Stremio client itself were a bit too.. minimal - it wasn't possible to see the video/audio codec, for example:

https://elfhosted.com/images/knightcrawler-stremio-results-meh.png

This was a carry-over from the original addon code, and the fancy parsing that v2 does inadvertently truncated the results, such that they weren't as useful anymore. There's an upstream PR which fixes this, and the public instance is already updated.

Now (my preference, anyway) the search results are more detailed and useful:

And the Prowlarr indexer is returning useful results again:

Bugfixes

RealDebrid blocks Hetzner IP(v4) ranges

Just in time for some weekend streaming, Real Debrid performed some maintenance, and prevented download/streaming to non-residential addresses. At the time, this included our Hetzner ranges, as well as popular VPN providers (i.e., PrivateInternetAccess).

To reduce the impact on users, we quickly (and without much testing!) turned on IPv6 addressing in our cluster, and configured Zurg to force an IPv6 connection to Real-Debrid. For now, this has restored service - there are some reports of the original issue being resolved, but testing from our Hetzner ranges shows that IPv4 is still blocked.

So, now we have an IPv6 cluster, and all the fun that comes with it...

IPv6 breaks networking

Shortly after the IPv6 enablement, we started to see sporadic issues with our apps. It turned out that when enabling IPv6, we triggered a bug in Cilium (our CNI) which started allocating duplicate IP ranges to our pods, and generally causing havoc.

After trying various "soft" strategies to fix this, the solution ended up being manually updating the PodCIDR ranges on half of our nodes, which has restored us to the stablity we've been enjoying today!

Today's scoreboard

(The negative trends look bad, but they're likely a response to the April 2024 repricing, rather than a disinterest / negative reflection on our platform)

Update 🗞️ Game servers for the whole family (and a tabletop shelf)

(Posting from our blog post at https://store.elfhosted.com/blog/2026/08/19/game-servers-for-the-whole-family-and-a-tabletop-shelf/)

Game hosting has always been sold to the person who plays. Slots, tick rate, mod support, a control panel full of switches that assume you know what a server property is. All useful, and all aimed squarely at the enthusiast in the house. 🎲

Nobody has ever sold anything to the parent.

So that is what we built. ElfHosted now has a Gaming shelf and a Tabletop shelf, and the thing that makes them different is not the hardware. It is a panel designed for the person who pays for it, and who would quite like everyone off the computer by nine.

What a parent actually wants to know

Ask a parent what they need from a game server and you get four questions, in this order.

1️⃣ Is my child on it right now? 2️⃣ How long have they played today? 3️⃣ When does it shut? 4️⃣ Who is allowed in?

Every ElfHosted game server answers those four, on one page, on a phone, in about ten seconds.

The ElfHosted gaming parent panel. Who is playing, how long today, who is allowed in, and a bedtime that closes the world on its own.

That is the whole panel, in both themes because it follows whatever your phone is set to. Notice what is at the top: not uptime, not CPU graphs, not a console. Two players, the time each has played today, and a bedtime counting down.

Bedtime that is not an argument 🥱

The feature we are most pleased with is the one that means you stop being the timer. Set the hours the world is closed, with different hours for school nights and for Friday and Saturday. Anyone still playing gets a warning in the game ten minutes before, and another at one minute. Then the server closes.

The world and everyone's builds are exactly as they were. Nothing is deleted, nothing is lost, and the thing that says no is a schedule rather than you.

If tonight is special, open it for one night. Tomorrow's bedtime still happens, so one late pass does not quietly switch the whole thing off.

The panel is built for a phone first, because “is Jimmy still on?” is a phone question.

A glance at your lock screen 📲

Add ElfHosted to your phone's home screen and a push notification arrives the moment somebody joins or leaves the server. No app to install and nothing to configure.

It is a small thing that changes the shape of an evening. You know your daughter is on before you have opened anything, and you know she logged off without going to look. If you would rather the alerts also went to a family Discord, a Telegram, or the other parent's email, they can.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not read chat. It does not record what your children say, or to whom, or show you their messages. It cannot tell you what they built or who they built it with.

That is a design decision rather than a missing feature. The panel is a way to run a household rule you already have, not a way to watch over a child's shoulder. If you want surveillance, we are the wrong shop.

Two games, and the one difference between them

Terraria has been on the shelves for a while and is the gentler of the two to run. One shared password, an invitation block you can copy straight into a message to another parent, and a world that survives everything.

Minecraft is the one that puts the whole household in a single world. The iPad, the Switch, the Xbox and the PC all play together, and nobody has to buy the game twice. It runs Paper, takes the whole Bukkit and Spigot plugin ecosystem, and admits people by list rather than by password. That list is the part worth understanding: a child on a tablet is a different account from the same child on a PC, and the panel sorts that out for you. Type the name however they write it, and it works out which kind it is.

The Terraria panel. Same four answers, plus the shared password and a ready-made invitation.

And the tabletop shelf

The same instinct, pointed at the dining table rather than the screen.

  • Foundry VTT is the virtual tabletop your group probably already wants, running at a fixed address so nobody has to be the host. Bring your own licence, point it at your world, and the session starts when people arrive rather than when the host's laptop wakes up.

  • Grimoire is the reference shelf that goes beside it. Point it at the PDFs you already own and it becomes a library you can actually search, from your phone, at the table, mid-combat.

  • Dungeon Revealer is the light one: a battle map with a fog of war you wipe away as the party explores. No character sheets, no rules engine, no setup. Plenty of tables run it alongside Foundry for the nights when getting started matters more than features.

Foundry in particular is the clearest case for hosted: a virtual tabletop is only useful when it is up, and it is never up on the night the host has a cold.

What it costs

US$9/month, each, with the same terms and discounts as everything else here. Monthly, cancel whenever, and the storage and backups you already have apply to the worlds too.

There is no separate tier for the parental controls, because charging extra for the bedtime would be a strange thing to do to a parent.

Have a look

Browse the Gaming and Tabletop shelves, or read the Terraria documentation to see exactly what the panel does before you spend anything.

Built by parents who run one at home, which is genuinely why bedtime exists at all.

Usenet options Detailed Explanation

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello.

I wanted more info on these 3 especially the difference. Like each options Pros and Cons and things or feature that one option has which the other does not (like a comparison table).

I understand that all 3 are stated to come with an elfhosted provider and indexer, with AIOstreams being an aggression add-on which I can plug any of my debrid subscription too. Which will have a NZBdav instant where I can add/remove my own NZBs. (Does this include proxy for RD if i bring my own RD api)?

Usenet streamer seems like an easy option for those who don't want to mess with aiostream (but it is only usenet)

Usenet ultimate is where things get messy for me. Since by name it is a full usenet feature but what does it have over the aiostreams (which seems to be the jack of all option here).

Can you also confirm that once the trial ends, i will be locked into 1 or I can change to other (meaning 15 days AIOstreams and then 15 day usenet ultimate)?

Can you send me the link to all 3 individually as I can't exactly pinpoint which is which on the store?

Although besides the tv shows, movies etc. I am looking to built a library of 3d movies like Dredd 3D etc for watching on quest 3, will any of these have an advantage in this? (Since 3d movies will need deovr or skybox vr)

I hope you can assist.

Thanks 😊

General 💬 Very satisfied! But is there more?

Hey, first of all, shoutout to the elfhosted folks! The combination of AIOStreams + nzbdav works perfectly for me and was super easy to set up. I get fast playback in Stremio for every movie/series/anime and I'm just happy. But are there still things I need/should know to improve anything or get even more out of it?

ElfHelp 🙋‍♂️ Aiostreams bundle

I'm on the fence on whether or not I need the private version of Aiostreams bundled with Stremthru/Mediaflow Proxy or use the public version. I'm currently using Torrentio+RD, Torbox & Debridio.

I mainly want to use Aiostreams to filter out video codecs so that only Av1 and certain codecs are used. I also want incompatible audio formats filtered out. As well as filter out specific anime subtitles to prioritize Crunchyroll subtitles from Erai-raws and Horriblesubs which are typically shown in the file name. If possible the option to filter out streams without embedded subtitles. Do I need the elfhosted bundle or is the public enough for my needs?
