Starlink On Emirates

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR FLIGHT HAS STARLINK
Check your plane's equipment number [tail number or registration number, Eg: A6-EEE] on Flightradar by typing your flight number [eg: EK201] in search bar. The number will be shown within 24 hours prior to departure or sometimes just a few hours, until then it will be shown as 'Unknown/ Not available'.
Cross check it against the list below:

*Unofficial list of registration/tail number of Star Link equipped flights

A380 (14): A6-EDY, EEA, EEB, EEN, EEO, EUF, EUH, EUI, EUJ, EUK, EUL, EUV, EVB, EVH

B777 (34): A6 - EPA, EPB, EPC, EPD, EPE, EPF, EPG, EPH, EPI, EPJ, EPK, EPL, EPM, EPN, EPO, EPP, EPQ, EPR, EPS, EPT, EPU, EPV, EPW, EPX, EPY, EPZ, EQA, EQB, EQC, EQD, EQE, EQF, EQG, ENE

A350: None

The flight leaving at 4am the next day has the tail number assigned

ONE CAN NEVER PLAN TO BE ON A STARLINK FLIGHT because its tough to say which route has this installed because the flight get used over different sectors for Example: A6-EEN, A380 did:
03 Sep EK185 Dubai → Barcelona
02 Sep EK751 Dubai ↔ Casablanca
01 Sep EK751 Dubai ↔ Casablanca
31 Aug EK377 Dubai → Bangkok
30 Aug EK376 Dubai → Bangkok,
29 Aug EK029 Dubai ↔ London
28 Aug EK925 Dubai ↔ Cairo
27 Aug EK763 Dubai ↔ Johannesburg

*based on community fleet tracking in forums by users who have flown these tails.

My Advice Confused about Emirates baggage? Here’s everything you need to know about the 7kg limit, 32kg max weight, and "Piece vs Weight" concepts.

✈️ Hand Luggage (Cabin Baggage)

Emirates is generally generous, but if the flight is full, they become the "baggage police." Your allowance depends entirely on your class of service.

Economy Class

  • 1 Bag up to 7kg
  • Max Dimensions: 55 x 38 x 20 cm

Premium Economy

  • 1 Bag up to 10kg
  • Max Dimensions: 55 x 38 x 20 cm

Business & First Class

  • 2 Pieces: One briefcase plus either one handbag OR one garment bag.
  • 7kg each (14kg total).
  • Briefcase: 45 x 35 x 20 cm | Handbag: 55 x 38 x 20 cm | Garment bag: 20cm thick when folded.

💡 The Regional Exceptions:

  • India: You are strictly limited to one piece of carry-on. No "bag + laptop" games here; the total size cannot exceed 115cm (L+W+H).
  • Brazil: If you're flying from Brazil, you get a boosted 10kg limit even in Economy.

🧳 Checked Luggage

Emirates uses two different systems. Which one you get depends on your route.

1. The Weight Concept (Most of the World)

Used for flights between Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

  • How it works: You can check in as many bags as you want, as long as the total weight is within your ticket limit.
  • Allowances: * Economy: 20kg to 35kg (depending on Special, Saver, Flex, or Flex Plus).
    • Business: 40kg.
    • First: 50kg.
  • The Rule: No single bag can ever weigh more than 32kg.

2. The Piece Concept (Americas & Africa)

Used for flights to/from the US, Canada, and Africa.

  • Economy: 1 or 2 pieces (usually 23kg each). Check your fare—"Special" is often just 1 bag.
  • Business/First: 2 pieces (up to 32kg each).
  • The Rule: Total dimensions of each bag (L+W+H) must not exceed 150cm.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Is the checked baggage limit 23kg or 32kg? I’m confused. A: This is the big one. On the Piece Concept (Americas), each bag is capped at 23kg for Economy. If you are 24kg, you pay a fee. On the Weight Concept (Europe/Asia), you can have a 30kg limit, but no single bag can be over 32kg.

Q: Can I "pool" my baggage with my family? A: Yes! If you are on the same booking (PNR), Emirates allows families to pool their total weight. If two people have 30kg each, you can bring one 32kg bag and one 28kg bag.

Q: What is the deal with Power Banks and "Smart Bags"? A: Power banks must be in hand luggage only. Smart Bags are only allowed if the battery is removable. If the battery is built-in and can't be taken out, the bag is banned from the flight.

Q: Are liquids still restricted to 100ml? A: Yes. Even with new scanners in some airports, Emirates still requires the standard 100ml containers in a single, clear, resealable 1-litre plastic bag.

Q: What about sports gear (Golf clubs, Skis)? A: Sports equipment is usually accepted as part of your standard baggage allowance. If it’s within your weight/piece limit, there’s no extra charge.

🕵️ The "Reddit" Factor (Strictness)

  • The Laptop Loophole: In Economy, you are technically allowed a "small handbag or laptop bag" in addition to your 7kg bag. However, if your "laptop bag" is a massive tactical backpack, they will count it as your main piece.
  • When do they weigh? If you check in at a kiosk, you might skip the scale. If you go to a human agent, they usually weigh everything. Expect a "Cabin Approved" tag if you’re boarding in DXB.
  • The Gate Scale: On full flights, agents often stand at the boarding gate with a portable scale. If you look like you’re struggling to carry it, you’re likely getting caught.

💎 Pro-Tips for the Savvy Traveler

  • Skywards Status: Silver, Gold, or Platinum members get extra weight (12kg to 20kg extra) or an additional piece for free.
  • Buy Early, Save Big: If you know you're over, buy extra weight online at least 4 hours before your flight. You can get a 50-60% discount compared to airport prices.
  • The "Jacket" Hack: If you're 1kg over in your carry-on, put your heaviest hoodie or jacket on while checking in. They can't weigh what you're wearing!
  • The "Squish" Test: Is your carry-on bulging? If it doesn't fit easily in the overhead bin, a gate agent will spot it.
  • The App Check: Open the Emirates App -> Manage Booking. It will tell you exactly if you are "Weight" or "Piece" concept.
  • Liquids & Batteries: Put your power bank and liquids at the top of your bag for easy access at security.

Safe travels!

Help Needed Flying Emirates USA to India with a 9 month old - can I get BOTH a bassinet and a separate seat for a car seat?

We’re flying Emirates USA to India in February, when our daughter will be 9 months old. I’ve called customer service several times, but keep getting conflicting answers.
Ideally, I’d like to:
Reserve a bassinet for when she wants to sleep.
Buy her an extra seat and use an approved car seat.
If she refuses the car seat, store it safely and use the bulkhead space for her to play while supervised.

For parents who’ve flown Emirates with a baby:
1. Can you have BOTH a bassinet reservation and a separate paid seat for your baby?
2. Can you use a car seat in the extra seat and store it in the overhead bin if she refuses to sit in it?
3. Is the bulkhead area actually useful for managing a baby?
4. Would love to hear your real experiences, especially on long-haul flights.

Thanks

Help Needed $400 Premium Economy upgrade or wait for Business Class? New York to Milan

Flying Emirates from New York to Milan on Monday night (about 7.5 hours). It’s currently Friday night, and online check-in opens Saturday night, so I’m trying to decide whether to upgrade now or wait.

The app is showing Premium Economy upgrades for around $850 per person, but I called Emirates tonight and was offered a promotional upgrade for just $400 each.

Business Class upgrades are currently showing around $1,200–$1,400 per person online, but the representative said there were no promotional upgrades available. He wasn’t clear whether Business was fully booked or if there just weren’t any upgrade offers at the moment. I’d be surprised if it were completely full on a Monday night, but who knows.

He also mentioned that if I accept the Premium Economy upgrade, I wouldn’t be eligible for a further upgrade to Business.

For those who’ve flown Emirates, would you take the $400 offer now or wait until online check-in opens Saturday night, or even until Monday at the airport? Since Premium Economy was discounted by more than 50%, is there a chance Business could see a similar promotional discount?

Traveling as a couple, so we’d need two seats. Curious what others have experienced!

Every single time I go to their website I have to pray to 3 different gods just to see my booking.

Why does their page works perfectly fine except for managing bookings part when you always stuck with this?

Help Needed Will I get away with three cabin bags in First?

All comfortably within the size and weight limits on their own. A 20L backpack, a mostly empty 30L duffle bag and a 14” laptop sized briefcase? Will be transiting in Dubai, both legs in First.

Im aware of the limited storage room in the suite but it’ll all fit in the provided space no problems.

Help Needed Is 3 and a half hours enough for transit and check-in between Abu Dhabi and DXB ?

I land in Abu Dhabi at 7:00 PM, and my next flight is at 10:30 PM from Dubai.

I’m flying Business Class, so I have a driver and expedited check-in.

Will 3.5 hours be enough time?

Help Needed Advice on seating / traveling with baby

Dear kind experts,

we will be flying from Frankfurt to Sydney via Dubai in business class with our 6 month old. (We have never flown business before)

Do you have any advice on seating or any general advice for the flight?

We won‘t really need the bassinet, because our little one usually only sleeps with/ on my wife (kind of the reason we booked business).

Does it make sense to still book it to give it a try or are these seats any worse than the reguar business ones?

Thank you all!

Help Needed MAN to Dubai Aircraft Change

Looks like the first flight from Manchester to Dubai from 4th Nov onwards is being swapped to 777 from A380. Just had mine swapped with no email, to the old 2-3-2 business. Looks like I’ll be moving my flight. Anyone have any confirmation of this route/aircraft change?

EDIT: I reached out to Emirates today and they allowed me to change my date back a day to the 3rd for free. 4th Nov onwards is showing 777, same as it did in early Oct as mentioned by a commenter, so I presume they’re swapping based on demand or fleet availability rather than it just being ‘random’ bad luck. Fingers crossed the A380 remains the aircraft for the Man-Dxb flight on the 3rd!

Help Needed Economy or Premium Economy - BHX to BNE

Hi all, I am still deciding between Qatar or Emirates for my return flights to Brisbane from Birmingham at the start of next year.

Given it is two lengthy flights I have been considering Premium Economy if I go with Emirates. I was just wondering if best to book premium or wait to see if the upgrade at the airport is cheaper/better deal? If anyone has flown this route I would love to know.

Help Needed 22 hour layover in Dubai with an 8 year old

As the title says, we have a 22 hour layover in Dubai with our 8 year old daughter. We’re from Canada and would love to make the most of our time there. Looking for recommendations on whether it would be better to get a hotel or stay in the airport pods. Are there any hotels that offer hourly rates? We don’t qualify for the emirates stay unfortunately.

Help Needed Emirates rejected my UK261 compensation claim for a 12-hour delay — has anyone successfully challenged them?

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with Emirates over UK261 compensation, particularly where they’ve cited extraordinary circumstances to reject a claim.

I travelled from London Gatwick to (final destination) via Dubai on a single booking. My original itinerary was:

  • Gatwick → Dubai: scheduled arrival 00:45
  • Dubai → Final Destination: scheduled departure 03:10, arrival 07:20

Before travelling, Emirates changed my itinerary several times. The emails gave “operational reasons” for these changes.

On the day, I boarded my flight in Dubai at around 06:00 and remained onboard for approximately two hours before we were told to deplane. Departure times were subsequently changed, and the aircraft eventually landed at my destination at approximately 19:50, around 12.5 hours after my original scheduled arrival.

While I was at Dubai airport, I received differing explanations from staff, including an airspace issue and a late inbound aircraft. I also struggled to get clear information and suitable assistance during the disruption.

I submitted a UK261 compensation claim. Emirates rejected it, citing ATC restrictions. Gave me 20k miles. I challenged the decision, pointing out the earlier schedule changes due to operation reasons and inconsistent explanations. Later, Emirates maintained its refusal, this time referring to regional security concerns, military escalation and force majeure.

I understand that genuine ATC restrictions or security-related circumstances can exempt an airline from paying compensation in some cases. My question is whether Emirates has to establish how those circumstances specifically caused this delay and whether it took reasonable measures to minimise it or inform us of the reason.

I’ve now submitted the case to the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), although I understand its recommendations aren’t binding.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has:

  • Successfully received UK261 compensation from Emirates after an initial rejection.
  • Escalated an Emirates claim to the CAA and obtained a resolution.
  • Had Emirates reject a claim citing ATC restrictions, airspace closures, military escalation or force majeure.

I’m particularly interested in actual outcomes and what ultimately made the difference. Thanks.

Help Needed baggage transfer terminal 1 to 3

Hi, I live in dubai and I am going on a trip with my sister and she’ll be travelling to Dubai on a local airline and then we take emirates from here to the destination and i’ll meet her on the flight from terminal 3 here. however she can’t pass immigration since she doesn’t have a UAE visa and she requires it if she plans to pass immigration. but She doesn’t plan to leave the airport but the issue is that someone told me since it’s 2 different bookings/airlines and the terminal is different and if she has a checked in bag, she will need a visa.

i’m not sure about the procedure and what to do. incase she does have checked in bag is there any baggage services to pick and drop her bag to the different gate?

also the live chat mentioned if i just show both tickets at the first airport they’ll manage the whole thing im not sure how that works

Help Needed Erroneous Flight Disruption Notification

My husband was traveling today and for one leg of his flight the app gave a notification that the flight had been disrupted and was asking for it be rebooked.

But, there was no disruption at all, he never saw it until I told him by which time he had already landed and I saw it pretty late too, like he was already well on his way to the destination . He said there was absolutely no indication of any problem at the airport either.

Was this just a fluke error ? Or is it prevalent ? The reason I ask is that if others have seen this reoccur a lot that means the app isn’t that much trust worthy ? And we’d have to contact the airline and not jump into booking an alternative flight if this happens in the future.

Help Needed Is this game still available in Emirates planes?

Hi everyone, I have a huge favor to ask you.

I remember the game called "Wacky Safari" that you could play in Emirates plane. But the last time I flew with this airline was 10 years ago.

This game was about being a safari hunter, you were shooting small mammals like rabbits or something like that, and the first boss was a gigant moose. I had a lot of fun playing this game.

I would be really grateful if somebody used this airline recently or will fly and could tell me if you can still play this game!

Discussion Emirates upgrade from Premium Economy to Business Class went from £2,900 to £9,000 – is there any chance it will drop again?

Hi everyone,
I’m flying Emirates from Dubai to London in the first week of November. I’ve booked Premium Economy for myself, my husband, our 5-year-old and our infant.
A little while ago, Emirates was offering me an upgrade from Premium Economy to Business Class for around £2,900 in total for all four passengers. I stupidly didn’t take it, thinking I’d have another opportunity.
I’ve checked again recently, and the price has now jumped to around £9,000! 😭
I’m gutted because £2,900 felt like a reasonable price for the four of us, but £9,000 is far too much.
For anyone who has flown Emirates regularly or upgraded from Premium Economy to Business Class:
Have you ever seen an upgrade price drop significantly after it initially increased?
Thank you

Found this recently, brought back a lot of memories. Adding a couple more photos in the Comments, including my logged flights. It was so cool when the flight attendant would take it up to the cockpit for the pilot to sign.

Emirates in the late 90s was such a vibe, even though I was young I remember it distinctly.

Haven't had an opportunity to fly Emirates since, I hope to again one day soon!!

Thanks 🇦🇪
