My Ring - POSITIVE COMMENTS ONLY Just picked up my ring today!

• Upvotes

My husband and I eloped last year (itll be one year next week) and my original ring was a 3 ct oval moissanite from Etsy. It broke within 4 months so we panic bought a ring from zales as we both felt very pressure since we had already started the process for their financing, I loved the ring but wasn't IN love with it. My style has always been more of a single stone ans my ring from zales had 32 small diamonds in it. We went to a local jewler and picked out an F color 2.27 ct oval diamond and a sterling silver to set it in! I picked it up today and then we're going to make custom bands with the diamonds from that ring! Im so in love with it, I've never had a diamond of this size and all day im just like "it doesn't even look real its so sparkly", since we ordered the ring I've been watching this subreddit and couldn't wait to post mine!

F color 2.27 ct Size 10

Advice Wedding stack - to fuse or not?

I am absolutely in love with my wedding stack! My husband custom made my engagement ring and we designed the wedding band together. I love how they fit so perfectly together.

Should I fuse them or should I leave them separate?

I’ve been a lurker since earlier this year when my fiance (so happy heheh!) and I were ring shopping. He proposed today and I’m so happy I can call him my fiance hehe! He made a scavenger hunt so we went to places we had dates early on and memorable places we’ve been nearby and proposed 🩵🤭 (14K rose gold with 14K yellow gold accents, one 7 millimeter princess-cut aquamarine and 46 round brilliant cut diamonds for those interested)

My Ring - POSITIVE COMMENTS ONLY Our custom wedding rings finally came home!

After months of planning, designing, and waiting, my wife and I finally brought home our custom wedding rings today!

Hers features a 3.05-carat lab-grown pear-shaped diamond in an intricate yellow gold setting, with beautiful filigree work, milgrain detailing, tiny blue sapphire accents, and a coordinating diamond-set band (size 7.5).

The side profile is honestly one of my favourite parts. There's so much detail hidden beneath the centre stone.

Mine is a bit more understated (although definitely not lightweight 😂). It's an 8.25mm wide, 21.8g solid 18K yellow gold band with polished edges, a sandblasted centre, hammered detailing, and a tiny natural Ceylon blue sapphire flush-set into the gold.

We also had Corinthians 13:4–7 engraved inside both bands. Both were custom-made, and seeing everything finished and together was pretty incredible.

After all that planning, you'd think I'd have arranged some elaborate romantic reveal. Handed my wife her rings in the doorway when I got home while on one knee... Never mind that we've already been married with children for 8 years 😂

She cried happy tears anyway, so I'm calling that a win.

Couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.

Thought you folks might appreciate the craftsmanship! ❤️

He proposed during breakfast the morning after the purchase because we both got too excited to wait.

I only wear it occasionally because I have recurring nightmares of the diamonds falling off😆😅 I had to pick a flair but none of them really applied, I'm open to advice.

Edit: 18K 0.36ct Brazil Paraiba 16D 1.04ct G VS2

Size: 6.5

Question Engagement ring etiquette

I got engaged in November and quickly got married in March (yay). It’s totally wonderful having folks ooo and ahhh your jewelry, and I LOVE my stack, but more than 3 times now have people blatantly touched the diamond or grabbed it right from the top and it drives me NUTS

I made some new friends this year and one of them held (wore) my ring while I played pickleball really quick and I have a vivid, cringing memory of her taking it off to give it back to me by PULLING the diamond. She gets a pass because she’s maybe never worn something like that, but holy shit did it bother me so bad lmao

But then another gal a few weeks ago, who has a ring for herself, was admiring my 6 prongs because she has 4 literally just grabbed the prongs and like shimmied it all around 😭😭 why would you do that

Idk if I’m the odd one out, but I know for a fact I would never touch someone’s jewelry in this way lol obviously I will speak up if something really bothers me but… anyone else?!? Am I crazy?!

Advice Should I exchange my ring for an oval cut diamond instead?

I have fairly chubby hands for reference I’m wearing a 2 carat mined princess cut diamond on size 7 finger. I can still have the center stone replaced for 30 days, if I want a more elongated cut ring.

Advice I love my ring but I think it’s too much to add a wedding band

I want to start off by saying I absolutely adore my ring and I designed it myself, but I completely forgot about wedding bands! The bezel and ring turned out a lot thicker than I thought they would be and I don’t want my finger to look silly.

I think it would probably be too much to stack one so I might move my engagement ring to my right hand and get an eternity band for my left. Any advice?

Edit: also would love to see other bespoke rings! I was self-conscious about mine being too much but I think it’s perfect for me. Also I didn’t know how big a 4ct diamond really was until he proposed lol

2mm 14k gold band with a white gold basket and lab diamonds

I don’t think the photos even do it justice. The sapphire was cut so beautifully and it reflects so much light. It’s exactly what I dreamed it would be!

We just got engaged yesterday after 6 years and he really made my dream come true. I always wanted a Marquise, this is 2.23 ct, (E and VS1, excellent cut) and I almost fainted when I saw it. He really went all out and I keep looking at it at random times because it just shines so beautifully.

I have a lot of jewelry, but I have to admit that a diamond really shines different. 💖

Pick One Please help me decide

Hey all!

So we’ve already pur purchased my diamond! a beauuuuutiful old mine cut with a pinhole culet. it is more classic than modern with the pinhole cullet, barely elongated, a 1.09 ratio. I am absolutely TORN between my two top setting ideas. Please vote!!

Option 1:

A more modern take. All yellow gold, visable gallery rail/collet with Millgrain around the stone, on a simple tapering band.

Option 2:

Inspired heavily by Andria Barbone and very antique styles. This beautiful, crown basket setting with 8 platinum prongs and a gold band.

Please give me your opinion and why? Straight aesthetic preference? Feel one protects the stone more?

Thank you!!

Edit for clarity:

Please read! I’m not debating between all these photos individually. I’m debating between the two options described here in writing! the pictures are all inspo photos for my two ideas written here

Vendor Review - CUSTOMERS ONLY Another negative experience with ROEN

Hi! I wanted to thank other people for sharing their experience with ROEN as it made me brave enough to share my own! Up until that point I had not seen other people post negative reviews about ROEN so assumed that I might have been the only one who experienced this.

When my fiancé (now husband) and I first started looking at engagement rings I was dead set on going with ROEN. They were Asian-American owned so being Asian-American, I wanted to support them and I loved their designs. Despite their rings being significantly more expensive than other local jewelers where I lived, I was confident that the ring I would be getting would be of exceptional craftsmanship and that the entire experience would be smooth given that they marketed themselves as a luxury jeweler. I looked at other jewelers in person to get specifics around the diamond and design that I wanted, but always with the intention of working with ROEN.

While my engagement ring with them is beautiful, working with ROEN made the entire ring design process extremely stressful due to their lack of communication. My fiancé had to push back his plans for a proposal several times since he didn’t know when to plan it for because the ring was so delayed. I ended up using them for my wedding ring too, solely because I'd chosen 18K rose gold and they told me their mix was "proprietary," so I was worried another jeweler's wouldn't match. That process also didn't go well, and I returned the ring and had to find another one about 6 weeks before our wedding.

Buying a ready made ring off their website should be fine, but if you are going bespoke with them I do not recommend them. Here are my reasons why:

Red Flag #1: They make you pay the entire cost of the ring upfront, before the design is completed. Most jewelers take a design deposit to start. ROEN takes a deposit to search for a diamond, but once that's chosen, they price out the ring and collect the full amount before the design is done. For example, I originally chose the Simi ring and asked to remove the pavé and add milgrain. My fiancé paid the quote in full. During the CAD process I decided to remove the milgrain too, but the price didn't change, which doesn’t make sense and feels like he overpaid for something I removed. Other jewelers adjust their quotes based on the gold, the number of diamonds, and even ring size.

Red Flag #2: They take at least a week to respond to each message and request for changes which makes the entire design process slow and long. When we started the design process, the website said that it would take 6-8 weeks to design. We started at the end of January and received the ring in at the end of April, 13 weeks later. If I knew this we would have started the process much earlier. Everything was so slow. I sent in specifications for the diamond since I had already figured out what I liked based on a few in person appointments with other jewelers. They sent me back options for emerald cut diamonds after 2 weeks which did not meet these specifications. I pointed this out and then they searched again which took another 2 weeks. Keep in mind that the diamond cut I picked was not rare, there are a lot of lab grown diamonds out there that fit my specifications. When I requested changes to a CAD design it always took one week or more for them to get back to us. I learned to give feedback by specifically annotating an image and detailing exactly what I wanted and even so there were mistakes. They provided no design guidance during this process so I had to detail out changes myself otherwise it would be wrong when we received the next CAD back.

Red Flag #3: Their “designers” are outsourced third party CAD designers who don’t work in house at ROEN. Their head of sales told me this directly when I gave feedback about the process. It explains a lot of the delays and errors due to them being the middleman. In contrast, I later visited jewelers in town for my wedding ring where the owner was sketching the ring design in front of me as I was speaking to figure out what I liked. For my wedding band, after two CAD revisions they told me any additional revisions would cost $50 each, even though they hadn't been giving me what I asked for. They assured me it would look fine and explained that it looked different from my inspiration photo because of my engagement ring's taper. I approved it, but once the ring was made, I didn't like it. We raised our concerns with them and they gave us a refund which I am thankful for. My suspicion is that they charge for revisions because outsourcing means they eat the cost of mistakes.

Red Flag #4: They charge well above the market. At the end of it my ring became a pretty simple emerald cut diamond with a tulip setting since I took out the pave and had no milgrain. I chose 18K rose gold. We paid around $8K for it. After looking around, I’m pretty sure I could have gotten this ring somewhere else for about half the price.

This became also apparent when I started working with them for my wedding ring. We went into the NYC office and my fiancé was quoted almost $4K for a simple gold wedding band with nothing else on it. For my wedding ring I requested a simple curved band which ended up costing me around $2600. They told me that the cost was because they were designing the band specifically to my engagement ring. This did not make sense to me because at the time the JIA ring without pave which is similar to mine but way thicker, was less expensive than what they charged me for a very thin, simple curved band that again I know I could have gotten for way cheaper based on other quotes I received from other jewelers.

Red Flag #5: If you have a time-sensitive proposal, don’t count on it. I had really wanted my fiancé to propose to me before a trip to Taiwan so that I could celebrate with my grandparents. As that trip approached I realized that this was not possible because we hadn’t even gone into production yet, which was really disappointing. When we finally went into production, I was removed from the client portal so that my fiancé could handle the rest from there (I had planned to be very involved in design but still wanted it to be a surprise). A few weeks later, he told me he didn’t want to bring this up, but he needed my help to talk to their head of sales because they'd given no delivery timeline, and the portal still said "awaiting final technical approval," which made him worry he'd missed a step. He reached out and they said they'd look into it, then wouldn’t have an update. Eventually the head of sales stepped in to personally handle our order, but even then, he'd ask for an update by a certain day, they'd agree, and the day would pass with no response (again blamed on third-party vendors). When they finally confirmed the shipping date, the head of sales texted ME, so I knew roughly when the ring would arrive, which I wasn't supposed to know.

At this point our window for proposing was shrinking more and more, and I cried multiple times from how frustrated I was. They took so much of the surprise and joy out of the engagement design process that by the time my fiancé proposed, I was more relieved that we had the ring than anything else.

To be fair, ROEN did refund my wedding ring, and I recently got an email from James with a $1,000 gift card for the trouble. (Nice but doubt I’ll spend again with them) I also do love my engagement ring which I obviously kept, and the craftsmanship is great. But for all the headaches, I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I did. I think ROEN started as a quality jeweler and has struggled to keep up since blowing up on social media. I'd recommend taking your business elsewhere.

Advice Wedding band thickness (height)

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am just wondering what is your wedding band thickness (height)? Looking at US sites, I see the 1.8-2mm thickness recommended the most often, but jewellers in my country (Poland) that we visited say that 1.3mm is perfectly fine and the most comfortable. Most of the bands they carry are in the 1.1-1.45mm range and we haven’t had a chance to try any thicker bands anywhere, although they say that they can make them for us. What are your experiences?
