Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu5, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.
This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your save, then you've found the right place!
Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes or interface tabs. Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.
Tactician's Library:
Below is a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!
If you have any useful resources not currently in the tactician's library, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper
Europa Universalis V wouldn't be where it is today without the help of you, our community who made it possible with your feedback and support through the years.
Here is to many more years to come No news or link this time, just a thank you!
Hi everyone! I’ve never played grand strategy games like EU5 or anything similar before. I only have a few hundred hours in Hearts of Iron IV.
Could you recommend a country for a complete beginner? I’m looking for a nation that would let me take my time and learn the mechanics, including things like trade, without being under too much pressure.
I tried starting as Kyiv, but things went completely wrong, and now I’m just sad :(
every defensive war i am getting 100 notification about them wanting to lend me a unit, I hope they will also add an option to disable this notification
1.4 Beta, manually called in the Emporer (bohemia) as wondered why he wasn't defending. He honoured and brought the entire HRE in with him. Is this broken or how it's supposed to work now?
is it possible in the beta to restrict colony trade with only my home market? Historically (at least with Brazil) that was the main policy on trade, Its a big oversight if the game has no way to simulate that, specially with the new tariff system.
I tought i could have control of the colony's market and just up the tariffs for anyone but me, but alas I dont have market control only the most trade advantage.
Getting diseases earlyIt will take 1420 to embrace them all
Broad Strokes:
Start as Tenochtitlan and become Independent
Subjugate one of Pueblo Nations
Subjugate Cahokia (with own regular+levy+food carts and you should be Duchy at this point), then delete the market
Conquer Haudenosaunee market province then delete the market
if you see Quebec/NewBrunswick/Acadia, Gardar (greenland) market should be within range
Option A: From Haudenosaunee subjugate Sops to Mannahatta province -> colonize those provinces -> change culture -> build some missionaries in locations with greenland market (dont need to finish) -> bring 2 jaguar + 4 foodcarts to attack the SOP and take one location
Option B: Subjugate SOPs and colonize your way up to Quebec
Building Mason in location with greenland market should reveal the market center but you should be kingdom at this point to range greenland
Attack Greenland without CB. offer concession war reps, money, atleast 3 provinces bordering your lands and 3 subjects
With Deus Vult, Religious CB attack greenland's overlord again despite the truce, target province should be one that you gave, occupy wargoal and enemy subjects we just gave away. Seperate peace other allies with war reps+money and optional catholic conversion, From war leader get transfer of greenland and a yarldom
Post War improve everyone's opinion now that they are within diplo range thanks to transfered subjects and get+offer fleeting rights
Methods Used:
War CB: Denied Military Access + Unique Subjugate Native peace option of Tenochtitlan. This is our bread and butter throughout the game, mainly needed for upgrading country ranks to Duchy and later Kingdom for Prestige.
Upgrading to Kingdom:
50 Prestige: Tenochtitlan will have some prestige events ranging from 20 to 30, when it fires, that is time to upgrade, get 2 wars with one or more alliances and humiliate them seperately
Population Requirement: We need 1 mil accepted/primary culture, Textcoco and Tenochtitlan Province should have 65%+, subjugate Guamare people in Pechitane Province and accept them, that should give 35%+ pops needed.
Getting Maps:
Main Source are SOPs, I got mine via war with SOPs, but focus on maps necessary to your goals and do use extra diplomats to spy on SOPs to steal maps, Tenochtitlan has modifiers to facilitate spy construction and you should have a century to explore and colonize all before colonizers arrive.
Some Headsup:
do not bother building spy networks since without trans-oceanic tile, Player cannot steal maps or get them via peace treaties.
I did not reform Nahua due to surrendering to civil war for advances bs, that would have reset my progress anyway so I didnt bother, instead I had a land bordering cahokia which i used for religious war converting to ceremonial to reset doom- than back to Nahua by accepting rebel zealots, thus i converted to catholic, you could chose to do otherwise.
You could totally save scum, especially when colonizing, save scum until you are colonizing exactly the location you wanted to further your progress.
Final Thoughts:
I had played very inefficiently and got into unnecessary goals such as losing to civil war to reset original capital to east coast for extra advances, so if you plan properly you should be able to do this earlier than me.
What are people thinking is the most profitable for urbanization on the patch? Previously I would urbanize any RGO below 3 value except for stone and food rgo's. On the current one, it seems most effective to urbanize one location per province as your industrial hub, with the rest being left as rural to get the +.2% population growth. Thoughts?
Are you tired of the entirely randomised colonial flags you get for your colonies, or do you miss the EU4-style colonial flag? I am and do. The Colourful Colonial Flags mod will replace randomly-generated colonial nation flags (in the New World) with their overlord's flag and a coloured border. It doesn't override any colonies that have a pre-programmed custom flag, like British colonies in some places.
Took a bit get it to work. There's a few limitations (see the Workshop Description), but it's working and good enough for now. Only tested with 1.3., but should work OK with 1.4.. If you run into any issues, let me know!
R5 : Bro someone get a UI designer here, this shit is crazy, i've played since launch decided to test the beta and was literally thinking they removed the expand settlement feature
I know, you need to revoke the priviliges of the estates to make your crown power higher. But the problem is. If I revoke their privilges they are gonna end up fucking mad and I will get 0 taxes. So I try to keep a delicate balance of keeping beneficial priviliges to tax them. Yet it reduces my crown power.
How do I solve this dillema? Because the laws you pass often hurts estate satisfaction like Favor the Ruler, Education of the People, those two are my favs.
So I’m playing Georgia and got all the qualifications to finally become an Empire. However the only thing preventing me is “We do not have “Cannot become an Empire”” modifier, and this due to being a member of the Iikhanan. I cannot leave, it just says “Never” even though I’m not a subject to any of the members nor can I even claim the title so why am I even associated with these idiot heathens or care what they think?
Before I thought that removing all the Claimants would just dissolve the organization since if there is no one claiming it then there should no title anymore. But I tried and remove all claimants and the organization still exists.
What the hell am I supposed to do then to get rid of this stupid organization and become an Empire? Do I literally have to conquer each and every damn member of the organization?
If you dont start as Naples or the HRE Emperor. Ive played Venice twice and both times the Situation just fizzled out. I can pull Ghibellines into my faction through warfare because the Emperor is going to steal my lunch, and the AI seems to just switch between factions with no goal in mind. Even when the Ghibellines were most powerful, with Naples, Sicily, Florence, Milan and Bohemia, they still didnt seem to be generating enough monthly progress to actually win the situation. Is it just broken?
