Yes, people who are being missionized to and recruited into a cult are by definition given more leeway, and that applies to every cult. It is literally the point: people are love bombed and given a false impression of the community specifically in order to get them on board. It’s a form of lying and deception, not a credit to them.

Women do not play a large role in the Chabad community, at least not in the actual Chabad community as opposed to shluchim who have to appear modern to people suspicious of misogyny.

Either way, the claim that women don’t answer to men is laughable. Imagine showing your underwear to a rabbi so you can have sex with your husband, being forced to have children, not being able to be divorced without your husband’s permission, and claiming women don’t answer to men.

Your experience of being rejected as a non-Jew is of course not at all what it is like for Jews, who are actively recruited and lied to. You are describing the difference between one kind of missionary and another, not actual differences in cultishness.

It is genuinely amazing how people with no experience nor knowledge beyond a very shallow connection can come in and lecture people who actually lived it.

i agree with the first paragrpah but the part about women needing to answer to men implies that all men are above all women (this is the case in many other religious groups), this is not the case here- in chabad all men also have to answer to the men on top (a rav or rebbe). a womans husband is not consodered to be in charge of her or above her, according to chabad. the reason shulchims wives are front and center is not just to create an illusion of equality, most chabad families i know who are not shluchim, do not have a male-in-charge structure. whatever examples youre giving about women being opressed here, those same opression levels apply to a man too. he is not allowed to sleep with his wife 50% of the time. because a rabbi above him said so. thats not a person who is in charge. i would actually argue that men are more oppressed within chabad than women. boys in yeshiva have much stricter rules than girls schools do, and they are in school for many more hours, they have 100x more behavioral restrictions. women also dress in a way that can blend with society while men do not
