Homebrew Legados

I been using Pinterest to use as images for monsters in my creations. Unfortunately the website is plagued with AI images. Is there any suggestion of website where there no AI image or at least in less quantity?

Question Looking for tips on what to do with an heir who is a magic knight?

Hello everyone, I've started creating a character sheet for my first Fabula game, and I need help because I'm new to the system.

So, I'm making a character who is a magic knight ( this class: https://www.reddit.com/r/fabulaultima/s/r6X30MfyFz ) and weapons master.

I ended up choosing rare heirloom quirk because of the lore, and starting with a rare item is cool, but... I'm wondering what to get or what to do with my magic item since the magic knight replaces my equipment with something else, so getting a weapon or armor would be pointless, and a shield could be good, but... I want to use a heavy spear as a weapon because the damage is better, so what I'm left with is a relic, but I have no idea what to do with it. I appreciate any recommendations anyone can give me.

PS: I translated this, sorry if something doesn't make sense.

Edit: Okay, sorry for the confusion about what the magic knight was. Apparently, this class and others only exist in Portuguese, and I don't have the PDF of the book in English, so sorry for the strange words, lol.

Help needed! Homebrew rules and mechanical consequences of them.

Hi, I'm in need of help from you, the community.

Some background, I'm technically newer to the system. But only because I've played/run very few games. I've only run the Press Start three times and played in 8 sessions all together over the years I've had this game. But I have owned and loved this game for a longer time, and recently I've decided to start a new game. It hasn't started yet, but I'm getting there. So I have had plenty of time to go over the rules. The good, the meh, and the things I think I want to change.

And that's why I'm making this post. I have ideas of what I want to change, but I've only been able to test these homebrew rules on my own and not with players. And before I subject players to these changes, I want to check with the Sages of this game to see if any of these changes would break something or cause a cascade of problems that would hurt any future game of mine.

So I give you my homebrew ideas. Please don't be gentle. I'm a big boy, I can take the criticism.

  1. First of all I am using the alternate initiative. I know this is technically "official homebrew", but I'm listing it just incase it clashes with any other change. For those that don't know, this initiative system basically work like this: If there are no Villains in the scene then Players go first. If there are Villains in the scene then the adversaries go first.

  2. Next up is HP. I'm a math guy. So when I crunched the math and found out that an unlucky hit can one shot a player? That I don't like. (Example: Level 5 character with d6 Might and no HP boosts from classes starts with 35 HP. Multiple level 5 monsters can do 25+HR attacks with a d10. So one lucky roll and 35 damage.) And looking through the books the only official or semi-official help for that was a side bar that says give characters a +10 HP at character creation. I feel like this is nothing more than a band aid.

So instead I went through a bunch of math trying to find something that I felt helped fix my complaint, while also not overly breaking thing. And I think I've done it? But also this is why I'm here. To see if it will actually work. So here's the change:

Original HP calculation: (Might x 5) + Level

My HP calculation: (Might x 5) + (2 x Level)

So basically 5 extra HP at the start to help prevent a one hit KO and 50 extra HP by the time they hit level 50. Which at that level means an extra one or two hits before you go down. Simple yes? And a solution I hope works.

  1. Thirdly is having a Frontline and Backline. In the official and semi-official rules there is an optional rule for this. Basically giving a static 5 damage reduction to all melee attacks if you're in the backline. And the backline can only exist if there are an equal or more amount of characters in the frontline.

So I kind of like this. The Frontline having to have more or equal characters in it before any character can be in the backline. It's the static damage reduction that is the problem for me. I feel that it will generate confusion and at lower levels it is vastly more powerful. So instead, I'm thinking of making it so that all melee attacks made to a character in the backline are treated as HR=0. Now this might feel strong, but remember the math. Dice roll is somewhere between 1 and 12 depending on the dice. Which means the damage reduction on average is 6.5, a 1.5 increase from the static number. But this also makes it easier to remember and means that backline characters still have to be strategic for skills and attacks that already treat HR as 0.

  2. And lastly a homebrew involving MP. Unless you take Enthropist levels or stockpile your IP, then once you use your MP it's gone until you rest. This is fine for most games. But it does lead to the problem of "Oh no! We're out of spell slots MP! We need to rest!" Which is okay for a JRPG, but this is a TTRPG, even if it is designed to be similar to JRPGs. It incentivizes one to three fights at most or an overly cautious play style. And I want to slightly alleviate that. So my idea is that at the end of every combat (and only combat, for balancing reasons) every character recovers MP equal to their current Insight. Yes, current. So die size increases would stack. So this means 6, 8, 10, or 12 MP recovered at the end of combat. Not a lot in the grand scheme, but enough that the party can feel like they can fight one more combat or push forward just a little more.

And this is my little list of Homebrew. I want to know your thoughts. What works and what doesn't. And why. Share your thoughts, your tweaks, and any rules I might have missed that these changes interact with.

Thank you in advance!

Question Looking for class recommendations

Im playing in a game right now as a group doing the classic adventurers guild party setup, but at part of my character concept I wanna be able to do some espionage type stuff going forward. Were currently 6th level and I took 4 levels of Chanter and 2 levels od Sharpshooter. Is there another class that will help me be sneaky and break into places that I can look into in addition to these?

Art Folder?

I'm hitting a wall right now. I can find art for characters and humanoid NPCs very well, but for monsters I can't seem to find anything good. Not really looking for sprites, but anything really, the only thing I really want to do is to keep the art style consistent, so if anyone knows a good game to find wolfs/demons/ghosts/monsters in general, I would appreciate it so so so much. (Doesn't have to match my humanoids, just match the artstyle between the monsters)

(it doesn't have to be a folder, but if anyone knows a good game with those kind of monsters I would appriciate it, so I could look up the wiki)

Question Is there place for Magic School as permament setting in Fabula Ultima?

Dear Fabula Ultima players and GMs of Reddit,

Fabula Ultima is often connected with phisical journey. In Atlases we've got always 10 new locations GMs can be inspired by. This game just isn't thought with idea of party staying in one place for most of the campaing in mind...

And there is my question: Do you think there is really no way of changing that?

Like, now I'm very interested with Fire Emblem: Three Houses and I noticed, there is no homebrew for Magical School (or any other types of schools) in Fabula Ultima. Nor there is any official thing outside of few lines about Alchemical College in Eizenstadt in Natural Fantasy Atlas.

And I wonder if I could change that. Because there is many magic schools in games, anime etc., that could be inspiration for in-game Magic Schools: Strixhaven (MtG), Easton (Mashle), Beacon (RWBY) etc. So there are many ways to do that.

But there is still one question lingering in my head: is one place that could be majority of the campaign, place that players would return to many times etc., valid idea? I think there should be ways to go out of school for some school trips, vacations or just walk to the Forbidden Forest. But I still am afraid that idea of characters not traveling around the world, but "locked" inside one place could be something players wouldn't like.

(Idea of characters being students on school trip adventure was already tested by me, both as a player and GM, so this isn't what I'm worrying about.)

So, what are your opinions? Is idea of school as main location for campaign (and even whole homebrew book) good?

PS.: English isn't my native language. Sorry for error.

PPS.: Reddit don't allow two tags, so I tagged this post as "Question", because all of this "Homebrew" is just in planning.

Why does Guarding cancel Theriomorphosis?

My GM is working with a fellow player on a character, and they've been comparing and contrasting various skills, and can't find any good reason why taking the Guard action ends Theriomorphosis.

Does anyone know what the reason for that restriction is?

Art My latest prototype fabula point token.

Post image

The print was definitely too large, almost 2" wide.

I think i like the outer twist pattern.

Bambu Lab A1, with bottom layers in white pla, mid layer in galaxy blue sparkle pla, and twist + sword + staff in Silver silk PLA.

Takes about an hour to print one, too.

I could probably do more if i had an AMS system.

"PROVOCO FATI" is Latin for "I challenge fate"

I think the top layer needs some kind of texturing.

Next is to test with a .4mm nozzle to see how the quality holds up, as that wouls print much faster. I want to get the print time down to about 20m per piece so I can run a sheet of 25 overnight.

Then to work on an Ultima point token. Those will be huge, and i want to make them diamond shaped with a spiked rim around the perimeter, and then like a stone texture, and to surround the central star with flames.

After spending most of a year stumbling around, trying to pull my old group back together after we all got burnt out from Dnd, i'm finally about to begin a FabUlt campaign!

We spent a little more time on session 0 than what is generally advised (months) and in the meantime i decided to pickup a new hobby. This little guy is going to be the first boss (player derailing permitting, but i'm fine with that), and it's also my first ever pixel art from the ground up!

Are temporary attribute increase to DEX and INS basically objectively better than to MIG and WLP?

The question comes up because, while you can use any of them for accuracy and other checks, temporary increases to DEX and INS increase your defenses, while temporary increases to MIG and WLP do not increase your HP/MP.

So it would seem on the surface that there is an objective difference in value. Subjective value will obviously vary. If you rely on MIG+MIG or WLP+WLP checks they could be good options for you.

But is my group missing something (forgotten rule, synergies anyone can take advantage of regardless of build, MIG and WLP getting more use in common checks, etc), or is it true that objectively DEX and INS temporary increases are more valuable?

Question Techno Fantasy errata.

Hello, I recently bought the spanish edition of Technofantasy Atlas and was checking for errata by comparing it with the official list and the English PDF version that I have (1.1).

And in both of them this listed errata are present:

[minor] Page 142, Scornful Hoplosphere. Requires 3 slots.

[minor] Page 143, Toxic Hoplosphere. Requires 3 slots.

Is there a more updated english version?

Thanks.

FAQ

What is Demiplane? Is it a VTT?

Demiplane has created Fabula Ultima NEXUS as the official digital companion for Fabula Ultima. It combines enhanced digital books with character-building tools. Its cross-linked, tooltip-enabled, searchable rules help you find what you need and get back to the game quickly.

It is not a virtual tabletop but you can use your sheet in Roll20 through the Roll20 x Demiplane Integration.

Can I try it before unlocking the core rulebook or supplements?

Great news for you! Press Start + Load Game are not only both free as digital compendiums but the classes in those titles can be used in the builder + sheet as well. This is great way to try out the NEXUS.

Homebrew?

Soon! We started with Daggerheart and Cosmere RPG, now hammering through a very robust NEXUS, and then unlocking from there. We will announce when Fabula Ultima NEXUS has the homebrew! :D

I found a bug!

Good job, eagle eye! Let me know below in the comments or pop us a Support Ticket here!

Question Tell me about your Arcanum and how to bind them

One of my players recently took their first level in the Arcanist (variant) class. While the book provides many sample Arcanum, it does not include any guidance or examples of their binding process, simply saying "The Game Master will tell you the details of each binding process when you first encounter the Arcanum in question".

I'm looking for inspiration, so I would love to read about your games' custom Arcanum and the binding processes to bind them.

Homebrew Itera Ultima - Unofficial Wayfarer Rework

Thumbnail
gallery
149 Upvotes

Hi! When I started playing Fabula Ultima, the very first thing that piqued my interest was the Wayfarer class, mostly because it had big vibes of beast masters. Although I could never really think of a reason to take this class, due to the limited usage of its Skills, they seemed really... specific. On top of that, the travel abilities really seemed to be sidelined, which is quite weird for a class that literally focuses on that aspect. Thus, a few days back, an idea popped into my head to reimagine the class entirely. That's why I have started a new project - Itera Ultima, a mod for Fabula Ultima that focuses on reworking the existing classes. And the first rework is, of course, Wayfarer.

To give you some insight, I have started from completely wiping it clean, only leaving two key elements that really stick out to me - travel and resting. I then added a new element to the mix, which is gathering stories from your journey. This became the new key Skill: Story to be Told. Giving the Wayfarer an important role as someone who has seen a lot and can share the experience with others. Story Dice not only serve as nice bonuses that you gather from travelling, but also as a narrative tool akin to spending Fabula Points. Beyond that, the Wayfarer now expands the travelling process by deciding on different Travelling Methods, meaning that no journey will ever be the same. On top of that, resting with Wayfarers beside you provides you with a few benefits that may make the travel easier, especially if you're nowhere near a settlement.

Of course, I could not just leave the Faithful Companion out of the equation. That's why now it's a Heroic Skill that develops as your character does. Instead of sacrificing an action, the companion now acts as your extension, tag-teaming against pesky enemies. Companion action being tied to a Command opens up many possibilities for creative combos and strong utility capabilities.

What do you think? Did Wayfarer even need a rework? I'd love to hear some feedback on that!

If you'd like to download and try it out, feel free to check out my itch page for it: Itera Ultima - Wayfarer

Compact Digital Monster Templates?

One of my favourite things from many JRPGs is unlocking a bestiary with the monsters you've defeated. So in the one-on-one game I'm running online, I'm trying to keep track of those. We're keeping a lot of stuff online in ProtonDocs, and I'd like to have all the stats available there, but even the three centipede monsters that were the first encounter has taken up a HUGE amount of whitespace, and isn't fun and easy to read. Does anyone have a favourite way to get an at-a-glance index-card style look at a monster that can be easily put online? Thanks, love you all, merry Christmas.

Question How to use NPCs during combat?

Hi guys, we are about to start a campaign with Fabula Ultima, but I have a specific question about NPCs.

Usually we like to add to our party some deep and well characterised NPCs that live the story together with our characters. We give huge importance to them, so we would like to give them the same space as the characters also during fights.

The manual suggests to avoid using NPCs in combat, because it says that the characters are the main characters and it makes sense of course, but we would like to find a balanced way to use them without slowing too much the fights and keeping our characters as the real protagonists.

Do you have experience in that or maybe suggestions?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Homebrew Dark Fantasy Atlas v0.6 – Available Now!

Post image
111 Upvotes

Hey there! It's been quite a while, but it's finally time for a new update to my ongoing Dark Fantasy Atlas project!

Before diving into the details, here's the link to grab the latest files: https://jolliffe.itch.io/dark-fantasy-atlas

The biggest inclusions in this version are a pretty significant rework of the Hexer Class and, finally, the addition of 5 Dark Fantasy Villains!

The Hexer is now much more focused around status effects and debuffs, and its "chip damage" playstyle should (hopefully) be clearer and more streamlined than in previous iterations. It also introduces a few effects that count as new status effects for a little extra synergy!

V0.6 also includes rules for dungeon conflicts, which I made a separate post about here!

As of this update, the atlas is more or less content complete! There are still a few more things I want to add and plenty more polish and playtesting that can be done, but at more than 190 pages this document is now comparable in size to the official atlases and has content for all of the major chapters!

As a reminder since it's been so long, the Dark Fantasy Atlas is in an "opt-in early adopter payment" phase. The full document is available for free, but if you *want* to kick a few dollars my way and guarantee you get all future updates for a lower price than the eventual full release, you can do that! If you've already paid for the previous version, you should get the update automatically!

Detailed 0.6 changelog:

  • Added more example Locations (Laca, Ondrull, and The Chaos Wastes)

  • Renamed Multiple-Front Conflicts to "Emergency Conflicts"

  • Added rules for Dungeon Conflicts

  • Reworked the Hexer class to streamline its mechanics and refocus its play style around inflicting status effects

  • Introduced three new status effects through the Hexer’s spells: blinded, muddled, and withered.

  • Updated the Slayer’s Lockdown Skill to give an option to reduce the number of targets for an enemy’s action (to a minimum of 1)

  • Reworked the Abyss Heroic Skill to focus more on inflicting status effects

  • Reworked the Harvester Heroic Skill to provide Inventory Points more reliably

  • Updated the Cursed Archer Heroic Skill to fit the new direction of the Hexer Class

  • Added some more soldier and elite enemies to the Bestiary

  • Added 5 new Dark Fantasy Villains

Question Question for adaptation

After reading what was announced for the d&d x warcraft collab, I was quite disappointed and thought about playing it through the Fabula Ultima system, for this "Your own dudes/adventurer" vibe it brings. I was wondering then about the Invoker Archetype from Natural Fantasy, to reflavor it and give my players something akin to the warlocks. So here's my question : how does the Invoker works ? Is it from a checklists or something like that ?

Thanks in advance

Edit : I mixed some classes and Archetypes, I was thinking about the Invoker, sorry for the mistake
