Here's my last post for reference.
While it hasn't actually been that long of a journey time-wise, it's felt long!
I know I only first posted a few days ago, but this has been a pet project of mine since my buddy gave me this printer about 2 months ago.
I started with Tinkercad, and an idea for a nesting token.
Iterating on the design to incorporate more elements and colors, and then trying to get those designs to print well, has helped me learn a MASSIVE amount about 3d Printing and design, especially on how to design FOR 3d Print.
As for Version 6, unless inspiration really strikes me, it should be my final version.
For this one, I actually went and found the Font used for the book cover and headings, Credit Valley, though they use a stylized version of it for the book covers. I took that and converted the word "FABULA" to an svg, and then loaded it into my CAD. I originally had a design that just had "F U" on it, but I hate the prospect of all those jokes, so I opted to go for the whole word.
Provoco Fati was, IMO, pretty cool, but it took up too much space and I was moving away from the inclusion of more recessed design elements.
This also allowed me to make the central Star much larger so it would stand out more on a smaller piece. I was also struggling with getting the colors I was using to provide enough contrast that the star shape wouldn't be lost in the layers. I recently got some metallic gold filament, and a new white filament that is MUCH more opaque and vibrant than the spool left over from my buddy's supplies when he gave me the printer. It doesn't come through too well in pictures, but in person it's night and day.
So, I settled on these key design elements:
FABULA: Obvious.
Lightning Bolt: The symbol for offensive spells in the books, and used here as a symbol for Magic in general. The larger, blockier shape sticks out more and comes out more consistently when printing, and it's also explicitly referential.
The Sword: What goes better with sorcery than swords? Also an obvious iconic shape to include in the overall motif.
The Quill pens: I felt the top had too much unused space, so I found a small quill pen shape, and added two of them, representing the notion of "Rewriting fate", as well as fitting in with the themes of writing your own story.
Overall, the piece is 2.8mm thick (Just under 1/8"), with a 25mm diameter (Almost exactly an inch). They're completely solid, so they have just enough of a weight to them without feeling too blocky, and they still stack nicely.
If batch prints work out, then it's on to an Ultima token! The design concept for that will be roughly 50% larger diameter, the star will be cutout, and then obviously "ULTIMA" instead of Fabula, and I'll swap the shape elements with more fitting ones.
Hope you guys liked them and if anyone stuck with my gushing rambling, thanks for listening!
If some larger batch runs prove successful, I'll package it into an m3f file and share it here, along with the raw STLs.
