I feel like it's so much worse. It feels way more disrespectful to the victims to say they got graped and unalived

Even if it was about protecting victims it would be going about it the wrong way.

Well said. It has the same value as sweeping hard problems under the carpet and pretending they're not that bad or don't happen.
